  1. Cindycin, I've been nursing a looong time! There are challenges but nursing has been a good career. While you are working , start looking for a part time position in an area of nursing you want to be in. Geriatric nursing is definitely not for everyone! You have to be careful not to be pigeon holed. If you get to looking at different sites you will notice that you are only qualified to work where ever you worked in the last two years. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but..... just getting a year of experience is not a guarantee it's the type of experience. Usually Med-Surg night shift!! Some luck out and get their dream job right away but for the rest of us we have to work at it!
  2. Hi! If you really felt peace after the phone call you probably did the right thing for you! Myself I have a love hate relationship with nursing, there are so many places your basic degree can take you! I bet if you can figure out what your dream job would be, you can find a version of it in nursing! That's where I'm at! getting ready to write the next chapter!!! Good Luck !!!

  4. The patient needs intervention as well. People with poor coping skills tend to lash out with what ever theve got "my rights". Probably has a long history of abusing staff. Hope your admin has lots of experience with the "difficult client". I truly feel for you.
  5. In the last year I have applied for mult. positions but a dialysis company that i have appied with before interviewed twice(differant people, differant clinic) has now opened 25 chairs. .... didn't hire me before ...
  6. Dear Friends, I've been out of work for close to a year. I would never have thought that possible with the nursing shortage and all!!! Some of my friends, (not nurses) are growing impatient with me! "you can't just sit on the computer" "you need to just go there" "call them, talk to them" In the past I might have agreed with some of these comments I'm just not so sure that just showing up at a facility of any kind with out an appointment is a good idea, might be seen as kinda stocker behavior. If you go to a hospital HR they sit you down to a computer to fill out an on line application. Keep in mind we have three nursing schools in this not so large area. Needless to say after a year, this could be my second or third time that I will have applied for a position. My next step is to apply for licensure in other states to expand my search. any thoughts??? Do I need to step it up a notch this isn't working!
  7. Hi! know where your coming from! I am an RN and am really interested in the RDA do they go to surgery with the oral surgeon?? If you go to MA take some Managment/administation a lot of the managers of Urgent care centers (in the South anyway), are MAs. They dont want to pay for lisenced people. But with the right skills they tend to promote from within.
  8. when I went from LPN to RN I got a .25 raise! i had to change jobs before I made new grad wages. But I wouldn't have gotten the New job without the experience from the old job!!!! ....did that make sense?????
  9. Contact the nursing school you will have other classes to take. The university where you plan to get your BSN will only exept so many credits from a transfer. You wouldnt want to pay for classes they wont except.
  10. It has been my recent experience most places have minimum requirements for BSN, even in rural areas. I'm going back to finish my degree to be more marketable. So you might as well go on and do it from the start.
  11. iVe only been ot of work for 3 weeks. I thought i was doing something wrong! Ive work in Managment postions for the last 6 years. So now I dont have recent clinical experience!!!!! I've been a ADN for 16 years! so I decided to go back and get my BSN... after reading all this... Maybe I should learn to be a plumer!!!
