Interesting comments!! I am a float nurse! I have worked in every unit of our hospital, and yes there are things that I don't know...but more times than not, I have seen and done more than most staff. I end up teaching much more than I learn anymore. While certain units become familiar with only their pt. population, I have taken care of lots of things. I don't need to take care of your ECMO pt, but I can do ossilators, burns/traumas, ortho, medical emergencies, surgical emergenices and neos. Please be pt and give folks a break, just as you would want if you had to float somewhere...everyone has something to share and learn!
  2. we used to have a nurse at our that did education on the off shifts. She would shove a cart around with whatever stuff she needed for the latest topic. She would literally hunt folks down to listen. The good part is she kept inserves to about 5-10min. and always had chocolate or something to give out once completed. and lots of hands on stuff.
  3. Ok...sorry to hear this happened to you. Part of the beauty of Nursing is the massive amts of opportunity out there for nurses. There are too many jobs waiting to be explored to be miserable in this one!! Like is just too short! There are jerks everywhere you go...but there are also great folks who love what they do...Find them!!!!:)
  4. Have you ever considered hypnosis??? I thought it was a lot of bunk until my husband tried it in desperation, and has lost 40# !! It is not a fast fix...over about 6mos. time, but it has changed the way he eats, and what he craves etc. I would recommend checking it out.
