Okay, First off do not try to downgrade nursing school or nurses period. Guess what, I really am highly intelligent but do not need to go around and try to tell everyone else I am. Let me show you how intelligent I really am. (1) your 22, You have a dual degree bachelors of psych (which I happen to have to, imagine that) with math? Is that what your degree says, bachelor's of math and psych? Okay, so bachelor's take 4 years to complete. However, you state when you began college you went pre-med/nursing track and got 1/2 way through the program, which is 2 years. Uh oh, how could you have done that and be 22? Plus, I have all the courses needed for pre-med because I am going to take the MCAT's after studying myself. Pre-med and nursing track are not synonymous by any means. (2) Don't forget the time it takes to take the test to test in, get the seat, and start the school, and go through 1 semester which is 4 months, and you are in your second semester. Umm, your lying about your age or your lieing about all this schooling. Why did you decide to graduate with a dual bach psych/math and not go into anything and instead go into school for nursing which you already did once and quite. Not logical at all. (3) Since, you did half of a pre-med or nursing program course you would have most of your degree done between psych, math, and 2 years of a pre-med/nursing program. I had many courses completed from my psych degree. (4) YOU do not like THEORY but you HAVE A PSYCH DEGREE. PSYCHOLOGY IS FOUNDED ON THEORY AFTER THEORY AFTER THEORY???? Wow. You do not like the assignments because you call them purposeless (nothing in nursing school is purposeless, obviously), but then you say that you know there important, but they are getting intuitive already? Basically you negated the assignment statement, and we are left with the assignments are intuitive already. The assignments have intuition? That sentence does not seem to be postuled from a college grad. I have a question about an early psych topic, and nurses are very intune with Erikson and his THEORY. What you are not taught in nursing school is the maladaptive extentions of the intervals of each stage. What are the maladaptive extentions of Erikson's THEORY. How about freud's theory of the Id, ego, and superego explained by a bachelor's of psych? I cannot stand mistruths at the cost of others validations. Now, I am an R.N. and I have a psych degree really. You probably liked Psych so much more because it was so much easier than nursing school. Psych is not challenging, almost everyone has a psych degree and only 25% of nursing program students end up making it to the end. You can work with patients with your psych. degree, my issue was I wanted something more, harder, something to be really proud of so I decided nursing school. You really should not have much theory in second semester? You should be overloaded with science pathophys, A & P, Micro, and chemistry which are not easy but how I love science classes. What classes are you taking, you talk about a low grade nursing class you should be past and no other class. You said you liked learning skills, what skills are you learning without the fundamental understanding of the provisions surrounding a skill? How are you out thousands and its just your second semester? Plus, if you got scholarships for psych you should have no issue finding many for nursing. If you previously had scholarships you would know how to find them and you would have found numerous abundant amounts of nursing scholarships. Since you did so well in psych, you should have qualified for multiple scholarships. For example, I won 5 nursing scholarships because I did really well in nursing school. I am really intelligent, so intelligent that I know anyone who makes it through nursing school is above average intelligence. As a matter of fact, I graduated with a 3.45 at the top of my nursing class (and I actually had to work for my grades) and I got an easy breezy 4.0 in gpa end in psych. Everyone has a psych degree or can get one, 25% of those who start nursing school graduate. Now that's something. Though I am really intelligent, like I have never met anyone smarter than myself and I belong to Mensa. I do not generally have to downgrade something difficult that essentially downgrades others in conjunction to know that intelligent and why would anyone ever go bragging about that. Nursing schools do not have purposeless assignments, what assignments are you finding purposeless? Studying the theories of those who founded and defined nursing as a profession? What hoops are you jumping through? There are no hoops? What is political about nursing school? What are you talking about? Maybe the content of the nursing program is too difficult for you to understand therefore you are having this difficulty you are speaking of? Information pertaining to the end result of saving a person's life is really fascinating to me, idk. If your expectations will not be met by nursing education but your expectation were met by psych education, your simply in something much too difficult for you. If the ability to save a human's life does not meet your expectation when all is said and done, you are in the absolute wrong place and you should quit now!!!! You are not capable of thinking to the depth a nurse must think and conceptualize information to the degree nurses do. You sound like a person who is upset that the assignments do not count until after the 70% mark is achieved, otherwise the assignments are awesome freebies to lift up one's grade.

40,000 w/ no experience in an economic time when there are literally NO jobs is great. 40,000 is much better than 000,000.00 if you ask me.

20 yrs ago 20.00. Wow, that was a lot more then than it is now as cost of living you know. Well, economy is bad so lucky to be offered a job, much less over 20 an hour, much less the people who cannot get a job at all. Without all the details, I have been in your shoes. I wait until the person has everyone's attention and I look at them in the most ridiculous look that I can give. I would say something like Do you really have to treat me in such a way that is meant to belittle me and cause me to feel bad when you never taught me as my preceptor what to do in this kind of situation? You could not have simply told me how to handle the situation you had to go and create a completely outrageous situation? Plus, what harm could possibly have been done by the patient being hooked up to the tele monitor, what has caused you such rage that you have become totally irrational in your behavior? People that act like that are simple and can only feel good by making others feel like lesser, so turn her crazy behavior around on her. Promise me, if she yells at you again about something you do not know what to do in...........ask her LOUDLY why she never taught about it if its so important that she flies off her rocker about with explanation why she is off her rocker? I am so mad for you. Why people, why?

You are niave in your statement. You need to understand nursing by way of education you do not possess and then witness the working environments these nurses are in. None of them have seemed to hate their jobs to me. Read your post, and think about what you sound like coming off to someone you do not know? In my state that first week quit of nursing school would have been your last because you do not get second chances in my state. Please do not put down these Nurses who have been to school for years, and years because everyday a nurse learns something they did not know. Also because you do not even understand what nursing is or what they go through or anything to make such a statement. Just don't put down nurses, please.

Never let anyone tell you you cannot do anything, how do people you do not know have that much power over you and who you will become. Its meant to scare you, its not for the weak.

I think there are great words above this sentence to really think about. You know, I am one with issues to AD/HD for one, and I could not read until I was in like 4th grade. I memorize everything. I can't sound out words (learning med terms, mmmm). Anyway, if you believe and give your all to something you can do anything you put your mind to. I am an example. I am the one finishing top of my class, when no one thought I would graduate from high school. You got to have a fire inside you to do this. If you think you can't, you never will.

36 years of experience, Im betting on this answer! BTW, I am a new grad and I have met a nurse with 30 yrs experience and got the privilage to work with her for one day. My word the things she knew and taught me. I may stalk you with questions, beware. lol. Hats off to you!

I am in awe? Nights are usually short, and you're being switched from night to day. I cannot believe it. I need to work nights with my family situation, so that would cost me the differential and it would cost me about 400.00+ a month in daycare. I would be looking for another night position, personally.

Wow! Now that sounds good, a lot like my friend who did eventually get in. Wow, thats great, good benefits, pay, etc. With that info, I say wait but Im scared to tell you to do something that might not pan out. It sounds really good though! My friend new grad from Ohio applied for jobs in PA, and got the job without even going to PA. Moved the next week, but I do not know if she had to wait for the new license. She did get hired though right away with the OH license. Apply, never hurts.

Did we go to the same nursing school? I was told the same things and YES they are all true. However, it does not mean that you cannot do it. If you have BP and you are on meds that stabalize your moods, you are good to go. I was scared to death and every semester I looked around the room and spotted those I knew that were not going to make it, and I tried to find out where I fell in that dynamic. I was afraid of failing out, and it ended up that I was top of my class (in nursing school that is really darn hard). Yes, for 2 straight years I took care of my 3 kids and I worked my butt off all things nursing school. 25% make it. I started with 40, and 13 originals graduated with me. It is what it is, not everyone can be a nurse. In my program I tested in, did you in yours? My test score was highest among my peers, and I did the best among my peers, that is a good way to gauge where you are at? If you try your hardest always giving your best effort, you have nothing to worry about. SLackers are not going to make it through nursing school, and if and when they do they fail their NCLEX.

I share the same fear. I have not been hospitalized so much, but I have been. The ER, me too. Psych today, is not the psych of yesterday. Prior to starting nursing school, I finally found a medication that worked. I could actually get out of my bed and get further than my couch. For the first time in my life, I felt happy I think anyway. I remember 3 days after taking the med as I was driving, I sat and thought OMG is this happy, am I experiencing happy? Anyway, I fear the same thing. Someone will recognize me or something. I think it should be looked upon as a good thing that people seek help. For instance, one of my hospitalizations I just said check me in because I am really depressed and I know I get to a point and I was to the point where I was thinking is this worth it, I could make it stop, but I had not gone "THERE" yet. Preventative medicine. Glad I am not alone, but I know your fear?

If so that would be just like me, insert both feet into mouth at once:confused: I was in clinicals and some nurses were saying things like it would decrease nursing staff more and that we would make half the wage we make now! I think I take gossip as reality often? I did not see anything of the like in the bill either. Your right, people would go to the doctor before being so sick they end up in a life threatening situation in the ER and than admit. HEY, nurse practitioners will be in demand then.....right? That is good for us?

I am going to be honest. I have had a male nurse as a nurse, and I did feel weird at first. Not really because he was male, more it was really unfamiliar and I was not desensitized to the male entering the nursing force yet. I think that woman with maybe something upsetting with a male in her past life experience may be uncomfortable. In many religions, men are not allowed to see a husbands wife in any nature undressed. I see the issue arrising there. However, I think that many people might be fine with it. How many woman have Male OBGYN's? Why would a woman not want a male nurse for that area if they have a male doctor? I think that you should have JUST as much right to that job based on the normal standards that all applicants are up against. Simply if someone requests a female nurse, give them a female. I do not think you would be sitting with your thumbs up ur..... I want you to work L&D because I cannot stand it and that leaves you not my competition. I have learned that I want the BEST nurse and I do not care the age, race, sex, physical appearance or any other thing. I just want them to be good, especially when it comes to my babies. Though I think logically, pardon me. I hope you get the job, let us know!!!

Okay, very serious now. Do you have history in the military? I was a candidate for multiple nursing jobs for the VA. My friend got hired it took a year to get her in? Becareful. Did they offer you the position. IF they offered you the position, and your not just a selected candidate because I have been a selected candidate more times than I have fingers or toes, I never even got to the interview. They hired from within and I was never spoke to. DO NOT pass up number 1 unless you know you have this job with the VA. Do not assume with the VA. On picking up things slowly, from a person that picks things up the first time...........I will give you my secrets. Write, write, write, if someone shows you something that has 12 steps write em down as the go. I do that, and I have my handy reference all the time. Go home, organize the book and that makes you go over the information more and you remember more. IF you have 2 minutes to spare, go to the computer and just start exploring (you will learn and not have to be shown), go through charts to get an idea, read the policy and procedure book. Do not waste time. IF your teacher has little going on, go with Joe or Mary while they preform whatever procedure they have to do and take your handy book and pen and write down notes. Everything you learn about one day, go home and re-read your nursing books about that topic. Re-read your nursing books before starting about your client population as much and as long as you can. This will all help.
