  1. Hi NCalLVN, I am a new graduate currently looking to work. I live in the Redding vicinity and was wondering if the company that you work for might have locations within this region. I'm glad that you found a wonderful company to work for, doesn't seem to be quite an easy task:)
  2. Hi Katvee, I'm 49 and graduated from the LVN program this year, took my NCLEX and found out I passed a couple of weeks ago. I felt the same as you, I was so overwhelmed, and in skills lab I felt lost. My instructors seemed to concentrate more on the written steps in our workbooks and our memorization (which like you, I am horrible at retaining information) of each step, rather than the actual skill itself.... so when clinicals came around I felt lost. Needless to say, I got through it with some good instructors. What helped me a lot was watching You tube videos of all the clinical skills, there are some really good one's out there. If you're like me, I learn from visuals rather than reading information from a book. Also I have books such as "Nursing Procedures , made Incredibly Easy" published by Springhouse that I found on Amazon used for really cheap...this book was really helpful even though it pertains to RN's it helps the LVN/LPN as well. Good luck to you, I can tell that you're going to be a wonderful, compassionate nurse:cat:
  3. I also used NCSBN 3 week course; for $50.00 I was in. Very extensive and you really have to pace yourself, there's a lot more in the program than you first realize. I didn't complete everything on there but I do believe it helped! Used Exam cram, saunders and a myriad of other studying tools. Took the test on Oct. 10th, and received the "good" pop up from Pearson. Unfortunately won't have results for 4 weeks because located in Cali. I wish I knew about the course during school; I think I would have benefited from it and am considering signing up for the course again just as a review. Good Luck to you!!!:)
  4. Took nclex pn today at 8:00am and finished at 11:45. 200 questions and lots of SATA and quite a few arrange in order. I went home and tried the Pearson vue trick 3 hours after testing and received the good "pop-up". I was certain I failed and am still feeling uncertain. Since I live in California I have about four weeks to know for sure...arrgghhhhh.
  5. I'm 49 and just graduated from LVN school. I'll be taking the NCLEX-PN within the next month or so. I plan to continue on and take the LVN-RN bridge which will last another year after I take care of some prerequisites. Unfortunately many of my credits from before have been too long to transfer so that's one obstacle. BTW, I wasn't the oldest in my class. We had someone who turned 50 this year prior to our graduation. Good Luck to you and your desire to go back to school-it's never too late:yes:
  6. I was in the Part Time program originally starting with 26 students and just graduated last week with 14 after 22 months. It is long and difficult, but definitely worth it. My reason for taking the program initially was because I have a family in which I have to be there for during the day(LVN was part-time at night) and our RN program at the community college has such a long waiting list (3 years) and still no guarantees that you would get in. It just made more sense and less time to go through the LVN program and a bridge program LVN-RN for 1 year. If you can, since you have already invested 7 months, stick with it and if you would like to become an RN, take a bridge program. Good luck to you, for whatever you decide! BTW I just turned 49 a week before we graduated and have others in my class who are in their 40's as well. Most of those have full times jobs and/or kids- I have an 8 year old, 14 year old and an autistic 19 y.o....It can be Done!!!:)
  7. Hi Slaveheart, I didn't want to wait to get into shasta college as well, that was the main reason that I decided to attend IOT. It is pricey unfortunately. Financial aid only covers a small portion so I believe I'll be paying close to $30,000. when said and done which will start coming due 6 months after graduation. If you need more information on attending IOT let me know:D
  8. Hi there, I'm not a COS student but am attending Institute of Technology in Redding and will be graduating the LVN program in April of 2013. Many of my classmates (and possibly myself) have been interested in attending the LVN-RN bridge program at COS next year. Good Luck to you and maybe we'll see you soon!
