  1. One of my classmates just got hired into NICU yesterday, not sure how many positions were open though!
  2. In San Diego I think it's also really important who you know. Join professional organizations. Since you're interested in NICU maybe join AWOHNN (or whatever NICU organization is out there) and go to the San Diego chapter meetings so you can meet nurses who are already working in the field. Once they get to know you they may be able to write you letters of recommendation or give you information as to when new jobs will be opening up. You never know who you might meet. Network network network!!
  3. Have you heard anything back? I interviewed for BMT today and was told they were making a decision Friday. Wondering if any of the other units have made hires yet!
  4. Has anyone applied for new grad positions for the October start?
  5. I'm coming from rancho penasquitos So it's only about a 45-50 minute drive but it gets old real fast. And you can definitely get away with a part time job the first semester. I'm looking into finding one
  6. I'm already sick of this drive and it's only week 2!!!
  7. Same thing happened to me!!! I took the online practice exam and got a 72! I freaked out, but ended up scoring a 93 on the real exam. The online practice exam was crazy hard.
  8. I got a 93 overall on the TEAS. I studied like a maniac the week before I took the exam. Buy the ATI study guide AND the two online practice exams. From my experience, the practice exams in the book were easier than the real thing, and the online practice exams were was harder than the real thing (I got a 72 on the online practice).
  9. Yeah everyone gets a different version of the exam, but your score is adjusted based on the difficulty of your particular exam. There's some sort of formula that ATI uses, you can find it on one of the pages of your test score
  10. Yeah, take both. It will give you a good grasp of what types of questions you'll encounter on the TEAS. Do you have the study guide as well? When I was studying for the TEAS, I found the practice exams in the book were easier than the actual exam, and the online practice tests were harder than the actual exam. So if you exhaust all your resources, you'll have no problem on the day of the test! :)
  11. I would definitely pay the extra money to get the book from ATI. You also have the option of purchasing two online practice exams. The practice exams in the book are much easier than the actual test, and the practice exams you purchase and take online are MUCH HARDER than the actual exam. I got a 72 on the online practice exam and ended up getting a 93 on the actual TEAS. If you study EVERYTHING in ATI's study guide, you'll do fine. I also purchased a study guide that wasn't made by ATI but ended up discarding it since there was a lot of material in it that wasn't even going to be on the TEAS. Good luck!! :)
  12. Yeah, I would've been okay waiting for spring too. Since I live in Rancho Penasquitos I figured if I got in for spring there would be a chance that I would get the San Marcos campus which is sooo much closer than Temecula. I would definitely go for the class that ends August 10th since fall semester at Cal State starts on August 27th. Have you asked advising if you could get your physiology professor to email your final grade so you don't have to wait for the official transcript to get processed? I know some people who were able to do that for the last spring cohort, but I'm not sure if that's something they do on a regular basis. It's worth a try!
  13. When in August is your class supposed to be over? I'm not sure if the cohort is filled yet, but the week before I got my acceptance email (like two weeks ago), I emailed advising and asked if the cohort was full. When they replied back, they said the fall cohort was very close to being full and my application would more than likely be rolled to be considered for spring. Then less than a week later, they offered me admission for fall. After they send you an email offering you admission, they give you a week to pay your intent to enroll deposit. I'm guessing that not everyone who gets an offer actually ends up enrolling in the program, which opens up more spots. I have a friend who was admitted to the cohort that started Fall of 2011. She got her initial evaluation in the middle of June, but then had to petition a course which took her about 3 weeks. She had given up on being accepted for the Fall cohort, but a week before classes started they offered her a spot...she did have like a 47 on the point scale though. But there's always hope! I think the cost of the program deters many people, so I would just keep in touch with advising throughout the summer to see if they still have spots open! :)
  14. Hi! I applied this past January right before I started my last semester of pre-reqs. I sent in my official transcript about 2 weeks ago (which completed my file) and got an email about a week later saying I had been accepted for fall. Physiology is one of the pre-nursing core classes that has to be completed before the advisors will rank you. When are you planning on starting the program?
  15. You would know better than anyone if you can handle that course load. Last semester I took anatomy, physiology, and microbiology at the same time, all with labs. My advisor and every single one of my professors and classmates told me it was a bad idea and to drop at least one of the classes. I wasn't working so I was able to dedicate most of my time to studying. I ended up getting an A in all three classes and was so glad I didn't drop like everyone was suggesting!! Time management is key! Good luck! :)
  16. I just got accepted to Cal state San Marcos' ABSN program. My undergrad GPA was a 2.82, so pretty low by nursing school standards. Luckily I was a philosophy major so I ended up taking most of the nursing school pre-reqs (anatomy, physio, micro, chem, oral comm) after my undergrad degree and got A's in all of them. The program I applied to gives points for pre-nursing core, TEAS score, and the GPA for the last 60 credits taken, including those taken after receiving a bachelors degree. So there are programs out there that don't require a high undergrad GPA! Good luck! :)
  17. Nevermind, I received my acceptance email today for fall! Yay!!! Has anyone else heard for fall? So exciting!! :)
  18. So I went to hand-deliver my last transcript to extended learning today. When I got home I emailed one of the advisors to ask if the fall 2012 cohort was full. I was told that it's very close to being filled and that the applications they are now receiving will most likely be rolled over for spring 2013 admission. BOOOOOOO.
  19. This is so stressful! I'm gonna be finishing my last pre-reqs in the next two weeks but am worried that my official transcripts won't be ready in time for fall admissions. I've already submitted my teas scores and other transcripts, they are just waiting on my in-progress grades from this semester that's about to end. Anyone else in the same situation?
  20. Has anyone heard anything about the Fall 2012 cohort? I just got my evaluation in the mail a few weeks ago and I'll be finishing up my last 3 pre-nursing prereqs by the middle of May. I'm a little concerned that my official transcripts won't be ready until the end of June/beginning of July. Is anyone else in this same boat? I am hoping the cohort doesn't fill up before then.
  21. I applied! I'm taking anatomy, physio, and micro this semester! I'm concerned that my final transcripts won't be ready in time for the fall cohort, but it hasn't seemed to be a problem for people in past cohorts. Where are you taking micro and a&p?
  22. I actually only took one of the assessments. I had a friend who bought two, but only took one so she let me use her second one. I'm gonna guess they are pretty similar, but it couldn't hurt to take both!
  23. I started studying about a week before I took the TEAS, but right after I finished my bio and chem finals, so the info from those classes was still pretty fresh. I only used the ATI study manual and the online practice tests through ATI. The practice exams at the back of the book are MUCH easier than the online ones. I scored a 76 on the online tests, but a 93 on the actual exam. I'd put the actual exam to be somewhere between the book tests and the online tests in terms of difficulty. Make sure you take your time during the math section and double check all your work. There is a lot of tedious multiplication, addition, decimals, etc. and you don't want to lose points because you didn't double check your answers! Good luck!
