  1. Got my letter yesterday!!! So grateful!! YAY!
  2. I work in Oregon...my base salary was 86,000 - but I work as an on-call manager as well...I should have clarified that. Are you in a state where NP's have to work under a physician...I heard that makes a big difference. Most of the NP's that work within public systems here make about 63.00 an hour. I actually make quite a bit less than that 60,000 is highway robbery though - what is your case load like?
  3. I got my email on 8/2 and I have not yet gotten a letter. I am with you in hoping mine is still coming!
  4. I work in a maximum facility jail and I feel safe. There is always staff, always a body alarm... As I have said in other posts - in no other job to have security with you all the time.
  5. Nicurn - interesting idea - and it would illuminate many of the myths around the other shift....."they aren't as busy" blah blah blah
  6. My only recommendation would be to drink lots of fluids! ....I just noticed this was from 2004 - so I sure hope it is better by now!!!! LOL
  7. I haven't tried it yet - but my friend just ended her second round. She has lost a total of 55 pounds (both rounds) and had kept the initial weight from the first round (29) off for a year. She said that she felt great after the first 3 days.
  8. I understand the shock! My first year out of nursing school I had a woman come in with a prolapsed bladder - apparently she was well known to the doctor and she had continued to refuse to get it fixed....so this was a common occurance - but I didn't know~ Any way - I ran over to the doctor and told her what was going on....she said "Oh jeez...welll - go ahead and push it back in" WHAT?! My new nurse head exploded
  9. As a private practice NP in psychiatry some of my coworkers make 200,000 a year. But we are on the West Coast and we do not work under a physician. I work in the Health Department and make around 100,000
  10. I always enjoyed the evening shift - quieter, I could get more done for patients that I maynot have been able to during the day - and the differential is great!
  11. I have found that the best way to assist with medication compliance is to ask them what is the barrier that they are experiencing. Sometimes it is as simple as not wanting to get up in the morning for med line - other times it has to do with upset stomach - then occassionally it is to do with strong arming.
  12. I went to OHSU in Portland Oregon and thought that the program was really good. Specifically - the community partners are very dynamic and offer really interesting and specialized internships
  13. If we could figure out the conflicts between day and evening shifts - we would revolutionize nursing!
  14. I really appreciate this post. I have worked in a jail for 5 years and treating them with dignity is the key.
  15. Thank you - big sigh of relief!
