Is there really a future for new LPN's??
I live in San Antonio and work at a hospital as a LVN. My hospital is NO longer hiring new LVN'S only RN's but other hospitals such as University Hospital still are currently hiring LVN's. we also are in demand for home health nursing ( I have a weekend job with pediatric home health) and most of my friends have good paying jobs at nursing homes. Of course there is more money as a RN but there are still opportunities for LVN'S.

I exploded at work. Haha miserable. Here's what happened? Should I feel bad, I kinda
You have every right to be annoyed. I am also a kind of quiet person, who would rather not ruffle feathers. But I learned pretty quickly that if you don't stand up for yourself, people will walk all over you.

Neuro/telemetry vs. med/surg
I got my LVN back in October and started working the Telemetry floor at a local hospital. Let me tell you, it definitely depends on how fast you can learn and the relationship you have with your co-workers. Luckily, I have met great RN's and LVN's who are informative and friendly. There are times that I feel overwhelmed, telemetry floor is hard, there are so many things you have to know. And as a new grad, you are not going to know everything. Take advantage of all of your orientation time, ask questions, keep a notebook and try to get a preceptor that your trust. Good luck!

LVN scope of practice for IV therapy in TX
I'm a new LVN and I have been working at a hospital for the past two months. I have been asking the RN's what drugs I am able to IV push and what drugs I cannot push as an LVN. I am getting mixed answers. Some RN's tell me not to push hyrdrazline, lasix and another LVN told me that I can push everything except Dilantin or Dilaudid (I can't remember which one it was) Anyway, are there any LVN's from Texas that know for sure. My director said he would look into it for me but I still haven't gotten an answer from him. I work primarily with cardiac patients and I don't want to mess up any IV drugs! thank you!

Nursing is not easy money, no gain no pain
Good point Emergency Nrse....I think everything is about perspective. I am a new nurse who just started working third shift on the Tele floor. And guess what, not only do I love what I do but I am grateful for this job. I love taking care of people and I get paid well enough to do so. Also, I'm lucky, I only work three nights a week and the rest I get to spend with my family. I was one who went without internet, and a car and very little money--pretty much the whole time I was in nursing school. Now things are better and I have the same perspective now as I did even when I didn't have much: I'm grateful for everything I have and for being able to do what I love. Positive thinking works and I would rather focus on the positive aspects of life instead of the negative!
