Study Questions I found these study questions on here. At first I thought they were only for those preparing for the NCLEX-RN but, it has an option to isolate the questions by subject. For example, you can select only Fundamentals questions. So far I like it and it gets my brain working.....plus IT'S FREE. http://nursing.slcc.edu/nclexrn3500/...4276381870C726

Why do we eat our young?
"what makes you great is because you are thinking of the patient first, whether you realize it or not, you are putting your patient first because you don't want to do the wrong thing or make a mistake! That, to me, makes a phenomenal nurse." Best thing I've heard said to a new nurse ever! :-)

Hi All! The nerd in me created this little grade record to help me keep track of my grades this term (and future terms). I attached it to this email in PDF format. Let me know if you have trouble viewing and I can email it to you. Good Luck!! :) Blank Nursing Personal Grades Record.pdf

Jeff State Spring 2013 Hopefuls
I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm at the Jefferson Campus and so far so good. Everyone seems really focused on the end product: Graduating Nursing School+Passing Boards+Getting a Job. It seems that we have a good mix of students who are first time college students, older students, students with degrees in other fields, repeat students, etc. As a student with a bs degree in another field, I'm actually a little envious of those students who are not in my same predicament. Its pretty frustrating spending time getting a degree that is either useless or doesn't have a good job outlook. I'm hoping the "snobbish" air you feel at Shelby is just 1st term jitters. Hopefully, the next few weeks everyone will get over them and begin to feel safe enough to open up a little more. They're probably just a little nervous and trying to figure it all out. Anywhooo.....here's to wishing you all the best of luck this term, and when you're having a tough day just remember keep your eyes on the prize!!

My college is not offering the Federal Loan program starting in Fall 2013
NEW INFO: I just found out that you can still qualify for this program if you have a BS degree. Turns out, I was given the wrong information by somebody who SHOULD not have been answering that type of question. Anywhooo, bad info cost me a few bucks, but hopefully I will have everything straightened out and ready for next semester.

Nursing Scholarships?
NEW INFO: Turns out the person in my school's WIA office who gave me this information was NOT the authorized person to give that information out and (according to the only STATE employee in that office and the WIA office) you can still qualify for this program if you have a BS degree. It simply depends on what you are returning to school for. In my case going from a BS in Biology to an RN license is considered an upgrade (HA-TOTALLY NOT SURPRISED ABOUT THAT ONE). So, moral of the story is.....don't give up.....keep asking, keep asking , keep asking.

I saw my BB last night but, I didn't see the message from the instructor until this morning. FYI: the message (in a nutshell) said Class today at 0900, "Bring syllabus and Calendar to class", and drug test today at 1300 cost $43 cash preferred, check and credit card accepted (credit card with additional fee). The Syllabus is 15 pages and the calendar is 2 pages. Give the syllabus a second to load in BB it may seem like it's not there but it is. Good Luck Everyone!!! Happy 1st day :-)

My college is not offering the Federal Loan program starting in Fall 2013
Hello! I am in a similar situation. My school offers loans but, I dont qualify because I already have a (useless) BS degree. Check with your local Unemployment office. There is a program called WIA-Workforce Investment Act (which may have a slightly different name in your area). This program pays all expenses for job training, which includes ADN/AAS programs (but not BSN). Also, with this program you get to keep your Pell Grant since it pays for everything (tuition, books, fees, supplies, uniforms, watches, etc). Great Program, but I dont qualify since I have a BS.

Nursing Scholarships?
Hey AngeWeise, Workforce solutions in Alabama is a program that provides assistance with career training for people who are unemployed or qualified otherwise. I don't know about other states, but here in Alabama if you have a B.S. degree, even if you qualify otherwise, you cannot participate in the program. The program is AWESOME, here it pays for books, fees, tuition, supplies AND if you receive a Pell Grant or other loans you can put that money in your pocket. Check with your local unemployment office or job office for more info, that's usually who administers the program. I found out about it by accident when I sat in on one of their meetings. Since I have a BS that is truly some BS, I don't qualify....any other scholarship information someone could provide would be helpful!! Good Luck

How do you think like a nurse?
What I learned my first go round was RATIONALES, RATIONALES, RATIONALES.....thinking like a nurse involves RATIONALE, the who what when where and why of a situation. Example: Leaving without asking her what she meant, is NOT thinking like a nurse......going back and asking her what she meant (in a NICE way)...IS.......CONGRATULATIONS though you are definitely on your way!!! Keep us posted

Job advice while in nursing school!!!
I like option 1. For several reasons: 1. Longevity with a company Thoughts: This is becoming a rarity these days across all industries. Plus, if you decide you want to make a big purchase after nursing school such as a car or house, you would have an easier time than most graduates since you will have about 4 years of job history. 2. Familiarity with job duties and expectations Thoughts: You won't have to learn new duties and/or new co-workers and personalities and vice versa AND learn new things with nursing school. A good part of your first semester is learning the rationale's behind things you are already doing as a CNA 3. Tuition Reimbursement Thoughts: I'm partial to this because I am looking for a scholarship myself and this would be a VERY helpful option to have. Plus I'm with Shorty 11, can you afford to pay the reimbursement back???? Decisions Decisions I am looking forward to finding out which choice you make!!!

I wonder if it is okay to have e-books???? If you have an ipad or kindle, etc, it would be a heck of alot easier to carry those instead of the books plus, some of the e-books are alot cheaper than the actual text.

Jeff State Spring 2013 Hopefuls
The jury is still out for me on the book bundle. I'll sit down tonight and price things for myself just to be on the safe side. $580 is ALOT and I am paying for this out of pocket so I REALLY need to make sure I have exhausted EVERY alternative. Even if I save $100 that's $100 more in MY pocket and not Pearson's. Any advice about this would be GREATLY appreciated .

Jeff State Class of 2014 and 2015
I wanted to start this thread for all Jefferson State Community College Nursing Students who have been accepted into the nursing program and will be graduating in 2014 and 2015. BTW-CONGRATULATIONS!!!. I realize students who will graduate in 2015 have (technically) not entered the program yet but, I wanted to be prepared since they will be getting admitted to the program before we know it. FYI--Threads and posts from previous students who were applying or already in the program were really helpful for me, and I really hope we can use this thread to do the same for other nursing students and ourselves during our journey. Good Luck to us all over the next 5 semesters (sounds so much shorter than 2 years!!). ****P.S.The only thing that I ask is if, you reply to a particular post, don't forget to click the "quote" button so that we can follow along. Our thread will hopefully be going for a few years and I would hate for someone to have to go all the way back to the beginning of the thread to understand the conversations.****** CONGRATULATIONS and See everyone at the FINISH (and gainfully employed) line!!!!

I am a transfer student also. I did not complete any pre-req's at JSCC. I thought I saw some people get in with less points than 191. Have you called the Nursing department office yet?
