  1. This may be childish, but I hate the word "practical" in the abbreviation LPN because it makes me think, "oh, you're 'practically' a nurse.." I know that's not the meaning that's intended, but that's always what it's made me think of.
  2. Yeah, I searched online, but there are so many hits, I don't know how to narrow it down. Many of them are alert, and do like to sing, but I don't go back until next Wednesday, so I wanted to have something by then. I've always been a fan of songs from the 40's anyway, so I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something fun.
  3. Hi, I'm an LPN student. We're doing clinicals in a nursing home and I've completely fallen in love with these people. I've noticed that even if (especially if) they have dementia, they love to sing the old 40's songs. I want to make a cd to bring there to play during exercise time or something. I've looked online at hits from the 40's and 50's, but I was hoping to narrow it down. If you are at a LTC facility and you guys like to sing, what are the favorite songs? Thanks in advance. :)
  4. We just got into the cranial nerves today! Good call!
  5. Acid-base balance! That seems to be in all of my classes! And yeah, med math is easy cheese. I'm 10 years out of high school and I was terrible at math in school, and I'm doing just fine. I was just saying in another post that knowing the body systems is really helpful, esp cardiovascular. Good luck!
  6. In my school, the cardiovascular system comes up in everything. Make sure you know all the workings like the back of your hand; it'll help a lot. But in general, I'd focus on the systems more than ionic and covalent bonds, etc. I think in the real world, it'll benefit us more to be really knowledgeable about the systems, how they affect one another, and how this "beautiful machine" of a body works (quoting an instructor). :)
  7. Things are great! I'm getting really excited (and nervous) about getting into the meat of everything. We have our October schedule. This month will be Fundamentals, PVC, and A&P. Are we really going to have 5 classes at once next month?? The other class here said Human Growth and Dev. is a b*tch. How are you hanging in? Do you feel like it's doable, or do you feel like you're at the end of your rope? With SO MUCH being shoved into your brain, do you feel like you're retaining all that information? By the way, thanks for checking on us. :)
  8. My first day is tomorrow, too! Well, two days of orientation, then class officially starts on Wednesday. Good luck!
  9. Hey, nice to see someone else on here! I look forward to meeting you. That commute stinks, and of course I'm sorry to hear about your parents. I think you'll have a pretty good support system at school, though!
  10. Yes, thank you very much for keeping us updated! I'd love to see the schedule as well. [email protected] is my email address. Good luck to you!
  11. Thanks for the update! I was really hoping you'd let us know what's going on so far. Thanks again! :)
  12. I don't get my books until I start class on September 28, but I bought two cheap books to start studying. One is "Calculate with Confidence" (a dosage calc book, $5 on Amazon), and the other is Mosby's Pharmacology notecards. I think those two areas are going to be the toughest for me, so I wanted to give myself a little head start. Plus, it makes me feel like I'm doing something productive for school.
  13. I start Sept. 28 at Applied Tech in St. Louis, MO. I DON'T have a healthcare background, and I'm definitely very nervous about that, but I've always worked in very fast-paced environments, so I think that will come in handy. Also, I've always been fascinated by the human body, so I know I'll do just fine in A&P and whatnot (you can tell I'm trying to convince myself, huh?).
  14. I'm sorry I keep posting on here, but I don't have enough posts to do a pm. Anyway, I'm IN! Just now, I dropped off my last reference, and she asked me to sit in the hall and she printed my acceptance letter and gave it to me then. Whoo-hoo!
