Great news Candyred!!!! I can't wait until I'm in that window too! I have 9 more months lol. We just started Concepts 2. The class isn't hard but the reading is dry. It's hard staying on task. First test tomorrow, I still have to finish reading the last 2 chapters. Yikes.

ECPI Nursing program
omg...now I'm terrified. I didn't realize there were two. In my program we take the "focus review mini Kaplan" first. I believe they are 30 questions each and there are 3 of them in total. That may be the med admin. At the end of pharm 2 we take what everyone is calling the 'Big Kaplan', it's supposed to be 75 questions. There are students in my pharm 2 class that failed it and that caused them to have to repeat the entire class.

compact state
I thought that was weird too. But she told me not only would I have to surrender it,but I couldn't even apply for a Tx license until I actually moved to tx. If that's true then why even be a part of the compact. I have to live in TX and have a TX only license. wow. I'm going to call the bon again on tues. Thanks alot for your imput. I really appreciate it.

compact state
I have a question about the compact state issue. I have a VA license and I have moved to TX. TX BON advised me I could use my VA license for 30 days before I would have to surrender my VA license completely. I thought at the very least I could keep my Va license ( I may want to return again and not have to pay). Why can't I use it in Tx since its apart of the compact or keep it and get licensed in TX. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but i'm so confused.

Lpn
Thanks guys, i really appreciate your help. I'm scared to pieces. The cost of living in VA compared to my salary is just not helping me stay above water right now. I have to find another option. I want to do so before the kids go back to school too. Does anyone know how the VA hospital is in DAllas?

new position @ VA hospital....
Hi guys, I was just offered a position at the VA hospital in Richmond,Virginia. I have a few questions. I was told I would take a med test and was even given a review guide (scary, it's so hard you need a review guide?), and I was told I would need to go through VETPRO (sp). I have no idea what that is. Has anyone gone through this process able to offer some advice?? I really want this position. I'm so excited. I heard it can be a lengthy process, but I can't wait. Thanks guys!

HTN in African American community
I did not see Oprah's show as I too do not watch a great deal of television. However I will say this to this: As a black woman I am offended by the OP assumptions and stereotypes of where MOST AA's live, how MOST AA's are shaped/weigh, what MOST AA"s eat.I believe these statements to be offensive and rude. However, I'm at a lost as to what has troubled me the most. the OP's blatant stereotypes which is actually racist or the moderator's actually reopening this post. :trout: I would love to stick to the facts if the facts were in fact given. I personally don't believe the story of Africans retaining salts on the slave ships and passing that on to all future ancestors. I would need to research that. I do know that after hundreds of years of eating left overs and food that was given to animals on plantations thier bodies adapted and during that time that type of eating was passed on to offspring. if the Op wanted to deal with the facts he/she would have made remarks based on the comments apparently heard second hand from the Oprah show since he/she stated they didn't watch tv. secondly please do not stereotype and blast your opinions based purely upon ignorance. I do not have HTN, nor DM. I am 5'7 inches and I weigh 138 lbs which certainly not overwieght. I do not live in the inner city, my kids are allowed to eat fast food every 3rd friday of the month. period. Other than to be offensive, I'm not sure why this post was started and for that matter reopened. these remarks were an attack on a group of people based on stereotypical opinions and remarks. No validitiy at all. Shame on all involved. :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

Would you be offended, "practically an RN?" - or am I overreacting?
It doesn't offend me at all. I was a mom before I was a nurse and Personally being a mom/parent has made me a GREAT nurse. I understand how a nurse may feel a bit slighted by this since we work so hard for our education and respect just to have someone say "I'm a nurse too" or "practically a nurse". However I doubt this person said this to be disrespectful to our profession. Being a mom is an amazing thing. You wear many different hats in a multitude of colors. I think being compared to a mom is sweet sentiment and shows a great deal of respect, trust and dedication for our profession. Ask yourself "How are mom's viewed by society, generally? I understand both opinions, but i believe this isn't something to become upset about personally.

How does your drs. in your workplace treat the foreign nurses?
first year I totally agree with you. I don't believe what u said to rude/racist. Acutally it's a matter of personal experience. In my experience this too has been the case and not just with the doctors, but towards other nurses as well. Right or wrong, it does happen and it is a reality in some workplaces with some nurses.
