  1. I see that you are still a student, and what I did may seem a little harsh to you. You, in fact are still working under someone elses license yourself (your clinical instructor). Think about what happens to you or your fellow classmates who do not follow instructions.... They are either put on probation or fail the course depending on your schools policy. Once you go thru the program and the NCLEX to get your license, you will look at things a lot different, or maybe you will give warning after warning and we will see you in Momentum Magazine (or what ever publication CT's board issues out) with FAILURE TO PRACTICE SAFE NURSING next to YOUR name. But it will never be me in the publication like that!!!
  2. Administration was Johnny on the spot with it b/c the STNAs here are union, and admin have 48 hours to present it. That is also how we found out she didn't clock out to go get dinner. They had my back completely on this. The Staff developer actually took this as a sign that there is a need to rebrief STNAs on the scope of their role. The union steward was the one who suggested that I give a warning before giving a write up. The unit manager then told her that the write up was a warning for any Aide that works there that they are not to touch any of the pumps.
  3. I just started a PRN position at a LTC facility, and my 2nd night on the job, I had an STNA who really started off on the wrong foot with me. First she left for her dinner break at 6:45pm and did not return until 7:50, with the exscuse that she went to McDonald's and it was raining so she stayed in her car a little longer so she wouldn't get wet! Giving me this smirky face as she is talking too me. The policy for lunch is 30min, and if you leave you have to clock out and back in upon return which she didn't do according to payroll. The next thing she did was sometime after my 9pm med pass she cleaned two patients that happened to be tube feeders, and instead of asking me to hold the tube feed so she could reposition them, she took it upon herself TO TURN THE PUMPS OFF!:angryfire Both patients were lying flat!!!! When I asked her about this, with the same stupid smirk, she says yeah I turned them off so I could clean Mrs. So-n-so. I forgot to turn them back on. I told her you are not to touch the pumps you need to tell me when you need the pumps on hold not turned off. I will do this, not you. I don't know how long they were like this but she then says to me we do that all the time, you don't need to come do that for me, I know how to do it. ***!! Call me the bad guy, but I wrote her up. I get the impression from her that since she is older than me (15 years or so), and because she's been an STNA for 13 years she feels that she doesn't need to do the things I request. Is this a common?? I also work at a major hospital here in Cleveland,OH and the CTA/PCA as we call them I have no prob with regardless of age, race, gender. But other friends of mine that are nurses in LTC facilities have tons of problems. Sorry so long..

I have a couple of friends that have gone throught the ATS program for LPN and two of those same LPNs are now going through the bridge course for RN. They seem to have no complaints about the program. I do know that they accept LPNs from technical schools which is a big relief for some.
  6. Be careful with Parma! You cannot recieve any other type of assistance for your tuition. They transfer funds into your Tri-C account, and if any other funds are transfered into your account, Parma pulls thier money out. You are still required to keep your end of the deal with them.

hi, i'm a fairly new nurse in the cleveland area looking for some good leads as far as agencies that are worth looking into for prn work. health coverage isn't an issue.
  8. Check with nurse recruiters at hospitals where you are. You may be able to find a hospital that will offer tuition assistance in your area. You agree to work for them for specified amount of time for set amount of money.
  9. L&DNurse2BE- that's correct she is a state tested nursing assistant. NPWannabe- She did actually tell me she was an RN, and voluntarily. I guess she didn't realize that I was an RN. We met at a parent teacher meeting. Our kids our in the same class. I must say looking back, she did look like she'd seen a ghost when I told her I worked at the same hospital. And a couple floors down at that. SweetHawiiangirl- She has lied to me about other things in our short friendship. I have just ignored or overlooked them because she is a nice person. Its' always over petty things like she got a job at Diamler Chrystler and they were going to pay for her and her fam to move get this 30 minutes away, she was going to get a new SUV, she owns her own townhouse. ( I only know she dosen't b/c my cousin used to lived in the same low-income townhouses she lives in now). It's sooo petty and stupid the things she lies about. Like another poster said, I think you can get into trouble for posing as an RN, but I guess it's only if you do it to a MD or someone while at work.
  10. I recently discovered that a friend of mine (or someone I concidered a friend) lied to me about being a registered nurse. She is actually a STNA on another unit. The thing that really bothers me is that she will call me in the evening and complain about her day at work. She will start a conversation about some resident that didn't know what he/she was doing or some other nurse that is slow with med passes, the STNA that is lazy, etc. I got suspicious when a lot of the things she would tell me didn't sound right. I looked on the board of nursing liscence verification site , and her name isn't registered. I checked married and maiden. I called on the floor and the secretary told me that she was an STNA. I know this may seem petty. Should I confront her with this lie, or should I continue to ignore this? It is getting harder to tolerate these stories knowing she is making them up, or repeating something she may have heard a real "RN" say!
  11. I'm in Cleveland, OH, and I just Graduated in December. I was offered a position in a nursing home and the starting for a new grad including a second shift differential is 27.71. The same faccility has a MDS nurse position that starts at 25.83. This place boasts having the highest start rate in Cuyahoga county. I was also offered a position on two different floors in the hospital where I work, and one floor is salaried, so the rate is 48,900 which breaks down to about 23.50s/hour, and the other floor is paid hourly, so it is 22.33. A classmate of mine was offered a position with the hospital down the street from where I work and was offered only a few cents more. so you see ya have to pretty much look around. btw I have an associates degree if it matters in pay rate.
  12. What is the ISBN on the HESI book?? I have to take it on Dec 13th. It's not included in wheather I get my degree or not, but I want to be prepared for it. Just curious as to what states/schools require the HESI to recieve your degree??
  13. I start my critical care clinicals this week, and I am sweating bullets!!! I'm not sure if we continue to work as a group with our clinical instructor, or if we are going to work one on one with a nurse from the unit we're on.
  14. can anyone help me??? I'm looking for some information on chemical dependancy by nurses. Anyone have any good links far as treatment, disciplinary actions, and strategies for intervention? I appreciate it
  15. I have a friend that recently graduated from a LPN program in the Cleveland area, and she had a very hard time finding a job. A large number of the major hospitals in the Greater Cleveland area don't hire LPNs as floor nurses too much any more, so she ended up in a skilled nursing facility. This was exactly were she didn't want to be!
