No, I graduated from Vanderbilt and currently live and work as a RN in Kentucky. If it was just the application process, it wouldn't be a problem, but with the length of time NCC is saying it can take and then add even the temp licensing time in California it will be more than 8 weeks. They need someone right away and agreed to wait until October 1, which is only 5 weeks away. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me wait times for NCC? Does it really take 4 weeks for them to process an application? Or 21 days after the exam to send out certification? I have a job riding on this whole process and have never been more frustrated. Compound that with the fact the job is in California who is notorious for being slow to license and I may lose this job opportunity in the process. I really don't understand why it takes that long and why it can't be done electronically the way NCLEX is. It seems completely inefficient. Sorry for the minor vent, but I am trying to find out what a realistic time frame is here. Thanks!!

I'm sorry - I just found the answer to my question. I have spend hours and hours on the BRN site and missed it.

Does the Livescan have to be done in California, or can it be down in another state? I would much rather go that route if possible. I am just starting the process of trying to get at least a temporary license. I have been offered a NP job and am afraid I will lose it waiting on California to get a temporary license after reading so many posts.

In Kentucky, our state NP Association has a list of NPs willing to be preceptors. I joined the association and it was one of the best things I could have done. It is a good way to get to know the people you might need later on and if they have a directory of possible preceptors, even better!

Here is what I posted: I'm sorry it took me a few days to answer this. Travel expenses will depend on where you live. I am in Kentucky, so it is only a 4 1/2 hour drive for me. Many of my classmates are flying in and pay for flights that can cost up to $500, plus hotels and meals. Hotel rates right now are around $129-$159 a night near campus. It frustrated me that we had to find our own preceptors as distance students, but I have since learned that a lot of NP schools have their students find preceptors, even locally. It can be very stressful, but in the end, all of us found preceptors. It just takes making a lot of calls or asking other NPs if they know of anyone. The WHNP/ANP program is separated for clinicals. I have had one preceptor for WH (which is the majority of the time) and will have one for ANP. Are you planning to work while in school? I have been working full time which has been extremely difficult because I am in the hospital as a RN 3 days a week and in clinicals 3 days a week. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but I have a family and had no choice. I will not be able to keep that up in the fall when I do my ANP clinical hours as there are so many to do (the ANP clinical hours are all done in one semester, while the WHNP ones are over 2 1/2). I absolutely love Vanderbilt and am glad that I made the choice. Each school has it's pros and cons - the good and the bad, but for me this was a great choice. I would be happy to tell you more if you need more information.

The problem you will have with working in the doctor's office is doing clinical hours as your clinical hour times would be the same as your work hours. In the hospital you can work weekends to balance it.
