  1. i am a newly qualified RGn in England and i must say that although i can see the assessment oppertunities in giving my residents (i work in a nursing home) a bed bath i do not always have the time (there are 28 reidents and 1 nurse i also have 4 carers to help) as the morning med round takes nerarly 3 hours! i too dread giving a bed bath especially to the terminal residents that we have as i fear hurting them or not doing as they would wish and they may not be able to communicate that with me. as a student i spent a lot of time with our NA's at the local hosopital and they were great, my advice would be to work with one of them for the first few days and see how they do it. good look;)
  2. i have recently qualified, i was working on the gynaecology ward (therefore it only had female patients!!!!) at our hospital as a student (it was my last one of four nights) and at 3am a young lady rung up and said: can i ask you how my mum is? i had been at work for 6 hours and wanted to go to bed when this happened i managed to ask the woman who her mum was with out getting mad. it annoyed me that she thought we should know her voice over the phone and would give her information just on that basis.
  3. I am a student nurse who qualifies in 2 weeks and at the minute i do not have a job to go to, neither are ther eany jobs advertised for band 5 staff nurses. the trust in which i have done my training ( Mid yorkshire) has just announced that the 340 jobs which it had frozen they are scrapping all together now, so it doesn't look like there is a chance of me getting one in the near future as they are meking people redundent as well. i am just so annoyed that i have spent 3 years doing all of this training and obtaining my BSc and now there are no rewards for it at all. it seams daft to me that they are still training nurses when there are no joobs for them. we have spoken tio university and all they have said is that we should not worry, and that we will get a job some where! but NHS professionals are not even giving out bank contracts at the minute. is there anybody else in this situation and what have you done about it

i would get in touch with your loacal university and enquire about the 18 month conversion program. i am a nursing student who knows that i want to be aq midwife so that is how you go about it. i think that the course can be done part time:)
  10. i have done a year and a half on a medical ward and a medical elderly ward and although i enjoy that i really took to gynae. i have always been fascinated by midwifery and gynae since before i started my training so i think that i will still do that :)
  11. thanks i was thinking about getting some gynae experiance as my last placement was there and i really enjoyed it. but there is a girl on my course who is also wanting to do the same so we are going to try and do it together as we were both turned down for the 3 year midwifery degree program they already knew that we had places on the nursing course:o
  12. i am a end of 2nd year nursing student and would like to know about the 18month midwifery program. i have heard that they pay you at D grade rates is this true?
