Too many absences for transfer
Our hospital has a policy that allow's 6 "occurences" a year, but if you're sick two days in a row for instance that is one occurence, however if you are sick, come to work a day and then call in again, that would be two. After the 6 a diciplinary process starts and after 9 I think you can be fired, although I don't know of anyone who has had this happen. 3 seems overly restrictive, especially if you consider every abscence as counting against you. I agree with the above poster that if you were asked to apply by the other unit manager, you should notify them of the situation, they may have the ability to work around HR. As far as transfering, our in house transfers are governed by seniority, but if you have any "disciplinary" issues that would be a valid reason to not hire the most senior person and move to the next on the list. However as far as I know this is left up to the hiring unit not HR to determine. Good luck getting this straightened out. As a side note, working less will reduce your call ins, but may increase it for those who work more to cover. It sounds like they need to address the morale problem sooner rather than later, you might reference this issue when you tell them why you're cutting back your hours. Suggest they do some creative thinking to get people to want to come to work!

Interview Advice needed
The other suggestion I would have is think about your past relationships with MD's and how you've handled conflict with them. Working in an OR, some of your most difficult situations may be with the surgeons and Anesthesia docs, not just patients and co-workers. I'm betting that's one thing they'll ask.

Are some people just not cut out for ICU?
We have had several orientee nurses come through in my 10 yrs in ICU, who for whatever reason just never seemed to get it. Some were new, but sadly, most of them seem to be the "experienced" nurses. You can often tell early on, because it's the ones that don't have a million questions. It is sad and frustrating to be the preceptor and feel like you somehow failed them, but it sounds like you have done everything you possibly could. 14 weeks is a long time, and to still be weak on the basics means it's time to find a different position. Your manager should explore your options and either find a different position in the hospital for her to try, or let her go.

Estimated amounts of Supplies for Infirmary
I would love to have this information, bless you for helping me. However it tells me I'm not allowed to send private messages because I haven't been a member long enough I guess.....There is a button at the top of my thread that I think you can click on and it should send me email from there. I'm kinda new to this, but from what I read that should work. Thanks again!

Estimated amounts of Supplies for Infirmary
I tried posting this another way and got no responses, so I'm hoping this will work. I am new to being a camp nurse and need to do the purchasing of supplies for the health center. We are starting from "scratch" this year and while I think I have the basic list of things needed (thanks to this site and a couple of good reference books) I can find no information on how much of things to purchase, (ie, how many boxes of band-aids etc.) I realize this will vary some what, but I don't even have a general idea at this point. The camp is a week long and there will be about 60 pre-teen campers and about 40 staff. HELP....any information from other more experienced nurses out there would be great! I need to do the purchasing by Wednesday Thank you!

Most commom camp issues and tips...
Thanks for the wonderful information, I am volunteering as the Camp Nurse for a church camp in the mountains in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of the number of supplies that will be needed? There will be about 60 pre-teen campers and 30 staff. The camp is a week long. I'm not sure what the usage rate averages, and am hoping someone who has done this before can give me a rough idea of how many boxes of band-aids etc.
