The only ones that I have taken is A&P, chem, o chem, psychology and nutrition currently. So I still have micro/lab, college writing 1 and 2, sociology and probably a few others that I can't think of right now, lol.

I am in the same situation as you are. I am starting the ADN program next month and I have to wait until after I start school to see if any clinical sites will accept me. I actually have a felony on my record from when I was 16, which was 5 years ago. Its about to be expunged but I'm pretty sure that it will still show up for nursing background checks. I've called my BON and she told me that my charges are not reportable, due to me being a minor but I won't really know until I go in two years to fill out my application. It drives me crazy not knowing if I am able to be liscensed or if I will be able to work at a clinical site but its a chance that is worth to take. I have a 4.0 so far because I figure the harder I work the greater of a chance I have for it to all work out. I just try to look on the bright side of things and hope for the best. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. I have found a lawyer for nurses that is familiar with the BON, so I am going to call her today. I do not want a probationary liscense so if that is the case I will just try to find another career. I do feel that the BON has given inaccurate information because I looked up senate bill 160 and it was not even about juveniles, senate bill 5558 is. thanks.

Hi I am almost 21 and have completely turned my life around since being a horrible teenager. When I was 16 I received a felony of aggravated vehicular assault, and feel horrible about it now. I have had a substance abuse issues at 18 but ended it before I turned 19, due to that I went to the psych ward 2 different times. I am bipolar. I just got accepted into the adn program. I called the bon and the woman at the compliance department told me that my felony is not reportable due to senate bill 160. She told me that the substance abuse is not reportable due to it not being "current", and I had no legal issues. I do not feel comfortable not disclosing any of these issues when I apply for my liscensure in 2 years, and she told me that I do not want to open that can of worms if I do tell them. I mean I am so confused on what to do. Can an attorney help me determine, or do I just have to take a leap of faith, which is my current plan. The nursing department at my school said that I can still be in the program, but she will have trouble placing me clinically. Please any advice will help, I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. I just do not know if I can listen to this woman at the bon, I asked for her to send me maybe something in writing stating this, a long shot, but she wouldn't. I do not know if an attorney can help me, and if so would it be an administrative attorney? Thanks for any advice.

Just an update. I went to speak with the nurse department and she frowned and told me that its not up to her its up to the BON. I should call them although most likely they will just tell me that its a case by case judgement, so if I decide to continue nursing there is a possibility that i will get denied, because I have bipolar also adding ontop of things. I have to tell her in the next couple of days whether or not I want to go to the program still. Very discouraging, I can not get ahold of the compliance person at the BON. I have no idea what else to do with my life, nothing else catches my interest! I just wonder if I am allowed to continue do employers look differently at addicts that divert and addicts from before college?

Hi I am a recovering heroin addict, July 2 is my two years. I start the nursing program in the fall and I go to talk to the nursing department in the next couple of days to tell her about my past addiction.I am nervous whether or not this will effect anything but I do not want to be rejected two years from now when I take my liscensing. I think you should let your nursing school know about your situation, its better to be honest now incase they find out later after your in the program, or on the drug test. I'm not sure if it shows up on the test so it will be better to be safe than sorry. You shouldn't leave something this large out, whether or not its on the application. Heroin is a devil, so congrats on quitting.

Thank you I am. It has been a long and difficult road, but well worth it. The good days are starting to outweigh the bad, which helps considering the cravings can still be difficult.

Hi I am about to be 21 next month, im a wife and a mother of an 11 month old. I just finished my first semester of college with a 4.0 and just recieved my acceptance letter into a nursing program. Now something most people do not know is that I am a recovering heroin addict! I am very nervous because I am setting up an appointment with the nursing professor and I am not sure what will result from me telling her this. I was 18 and addicted for 10 months. I have gone to rehab, I have gone to the psych ward 2 times for the addiction all before I was 19. My sobriety date is July 2, 2009 and I was pregnant in October of 2009. I have moved out of my hometown, I have surrounded myself with people that do not drink, smoke or even know that I had all of growing up. I have completely turned my life around but am nervous how this will affect becoming a nurse. Does anyone know of anyone in a similar situation that can tell me how it worked out? Also when I was 16 I recieved a felony as a result of drinking and driving, so I contacted my states board of nursing and they said that it can not affect me as long as I am honest about it. Please no harsh judgement I was young and in a bad situation. Thank you for any help or advice.

I never was a CNA and am starting an ADN program in the fall. I worked for two years at a MRDD facility where they did not require anything of the sort.

Hi, I am a pre-nursing student that has bipolar also. I just finished my first semester with all A's and just recieved my acceptance letter into the ADN program at my school.I choose not to take medication for it and there are some bad days but I have learned how to control some of the bad days by seeing some of my triggers that make it worse, like not eating enough. Work on some things that can help, deep breathing actually works for me. I believe if you truely want to become a nurse that your condition will not get in the way.
