  1. I just realised this is in general nursing, I'm so sorry! I was trying to get into general students discussion. I TRULY did not intend to offend anyone.
  2. I'm not the greatest at getting my point across on the internet, let me try again: I care about our older generation as much as the younger generation. However, as a (hopefully) future nurse, I would like variation. Seeing nurses with all this down time makes ME nervous. I'm an adreniline junkie, I like fast paced, thought provoking work. I don't recieve that where I'm at. I just want to know if it's the same everywhere. Does that sound better? The first time I was really stressed out from a very long day after losing 2 patients. So if I did indeed offend anyone, I'm truly sorry!
  3. I work at a hospital as a cna (on tele), it's not big, but not small either. I'm in school for my RN now. I want to help people, I want to challenge myself and learn. I care about others, I really do. Most of our patients (a good 90%) are over 70 years old. It's like a glorified LTC center, I know this may sound harsh. I just, this isn't what I thought it would be. I thought it would be fast paced and the nurses would be busy, most of the work is done by the cna. Not trying to put down the RN's, but they all sit around until a Dr. shows up or meds are needed, they sit most of the time. I thought this was my dream, I still feel like this the path I'm meant to follow. I guess I'm just hoping it's not the same everywhere!
  4. I will be taking our car to class and clinicals. We live 45 miles away, out in the country, there's no biking or taking a bus option.
  5. You can do it. I too have 4 children and last semester I took 18 units and made the deans list. It's hard to make it all work out with the craziness 4 kids can bring, but if you want it bad enough you will figure out a way. I have younger kids, so I did all my studying and work after they went to bed. Good luck, you can do it! It was hard at times, I got a babysitter to study for finals and midterms. Some nights I was up until 2 am, only getting 3 hours of sleep. I got in, thats what matters to me.
  6. Thanks for the replies. This is my first cna job so I'm a little nervous. I'm just going to soak up as much as I can and work as hard as I can. Thanks again!
  7. My grandmother is 72 years young and is still a working LVN! You don't have to stop just because you hit retirement age!!
  8. I can't wait to start. It will be the craziest and most rewarding 16 months (other then my kids, of course)!
  9. The program director stated the average student in our program was in their mid 30's and had 2 children. The majority that I have met our either early 20's or late 40's. I feel stuck in the middle and like I don't belong. I'll be 27 with 4 children when I start. At the open house, you could already see the cliques starting. I've seen 40 year olds who were to focused on their children and husbands to even make it in pre-reqs, just as I have seen a 19 yr. old ace classes and have more focus then half the class.
  10. ugh....I wish 1 1/2 semesters!
  11. I accepted a job as a CNA part time on the med/surg floor last week. Today I went to HR and they informed me I was actually working on telemetry and would be floating to ICU PRN. I'm so nervous, I wasn't expecting this. The hospital is where I want to be, I've been trying for 6 months to land a job so I can work my way up after graduation. However, working telemetry/icu was not something I was prepared for. I start nursing school in Aug. and the hospital is willing to work with my schedule. Any tips? I don't want to step on any toes, I've heard telemetry was the worst floor to work on??
  12. What area of kansas are you in? I tried since December of last year to get a cna job at a hospital, and I just accepted a job offer yesterday. What about trying for a prn or float position? Are there any Ltc facilities connected to hospitals in your area? Often times you can float back and forth from hospital to tbe facility and that would be one way to get your foot in the door. Also, really play up how much you want to stay and advance within the company. Let them know your future Rn goals and where you see yourself in the future. Good luck!
  13. I noticed in my quest to find a job, that employers were almost turned off by the fact I was starting nursing school. I had one flat out tell me they wouldn't hire me because she couldn't spend the time and money to train me, just to have me quit or go reserve. I finally landed a job (only part time) working at the hospital on the med/surg floor. Good luck, persistance pays off! I got my licencse in Dec.of last year, it took awhile to find the right job for me.
  14. I totally understand. The pre-reqs for my program were suppose to be 3 semesters, then the school is 5. But with this program, you can't start unless all pre-reqs are done. I think it's better that way!
  15. Ours is royal blue tops and bottoms, all white shoes, a blue polo, and lab coat. All tops have the nursing school logo and name on them. I really don't want to wear the polo's, but it's no big deal. I just wish I new what style and brand we are suppose to purchase.
