Hello all. I'm wondering how often in your career you experience patients passing away on the table (monthly..yearly..)? What happens after? Who closes and cleans them? Who takes them to the morgue? Docs, nurses, techs, nursing assistants, etc. I know it is a morbid thought but curious. Possibly starting in the OR and I have read a lot of posts but non that mentioned this sad part of the job. Thanks in advance.

Well, it's been about 8 months and I'm still dreaming of the NICU. I ended up getting a position at a urology office which has had it's ups and downs (lol....urology joke, get it?). It wasn't what I necessarily wanted but it's been ok. I've gotten lots of skills with blood draws, catheters of all kinds, and lots of different kinds of injections and procedures. Now I'm honestly starting to get bored and finding myself looking at job postings wondering about applying. I'm just not sure how to make myself more marketable for the position. I know some people think that once you worked in an office for a period of time that the hospital won't want you. Plus, the work I was doing although very skill based, didn't have anything to do with neonates. I'm torn. I was thinking about waiting the full year there before I start applying for something new but I know it usually takes a while for call backs about hospital positions. Enough of my rambling thoughts. My questions...should I wait the full year before applying or should I start now? What can I do to increase my chances of actually getting a NICU position with the experience I have?

Well, I accepted to office position. Even though the area is not my top choice I think it's still a great chance to learn and gain some experience. Especially for new grads I think a future hospital would rather see you worked as a RN in some area since graduation than to see that you haven't done anything. Plus you never know what you are going to end up liking. Life is full of surprises!

I didn't get the hospital position. Now my only option is the doctors office. Will a hospital even want me after working at an office?

After a long wait I finally found out that they want to find someone with more child experience. (Which I have but didn't get out during my interview). I feel so defeated.

Yes it's a great idea to join. I joined my local chapter and it has definitely helped. The can provide as an acknowledgement of your achievements and will write you letters of recommendation when it comes time to apply for jobs :)

I'll try to keep this short. I applied to a specialty acute care unit and got an interview that went pretty well but could have gone better. I was 1 day post food poisoning so I wasn't as sharp as I normally would be but I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to interview. It's been 3 weeks and I'm still waiting to hear back. There were multiple spots for the same position but I know at least one of them has already been taken. Last week I was interviewed for a doctors office and it looks like they may offer me a position. The problem? I really want to work in the hospital for the acuity and learning opportunities. Plus the specialty unit I interviewed for is where my heart is. The doctors office is a job but I'm not sure it's the right job for me. It's much less pay in an area that I'm not as interested in and if I take it a hospital may not want me later. This is my first RN position and I don't want to make the wrong decision. Seasoned Nurses, What do I do?

Hello All I have never been very active on these boards but am feeling more and more like this place is a great resource that I should utilize. There are so many smart and experienced nurses in one place, what more could you ask for. At this point I'm selfishly seeking some encouragement. I interviewed for 1 of 3 NICU spots open at a hospital close by last Tuesday and I'm anxiously waiting to hear if I got it. They said hopefully sometime the beginning of this week I will get a call either way. I just need a bit of a pep talk. This is the dream job for me and being a new RN words can't express how blessed I feel to have even gotten a chance to interview. I have just recovered from food poisoning when I had my interview so I am fearful that I didn't do as good as I could have during it. I'm sitting now and rethinking everything that we talked about and all the things I wish that I would have said. Don't get me wrong, the interview went great. Personalities definitely clicked with the nurse manager and we got along well (even joking around). I even got a big smile when leaving when she said "I'll see you soon". Could have been a Freudian slip or a casual comment I guess. Either way now I can't help but to think that I could have answered questions better or explained more about myself. I was just so out of it still from having been sick that my brain was running on power save mode. Any happy thoughts about hopefully joining this group of amazing NICU nurses would be appreciated :) Thank you.

Hi Everyone! I just started Med/Surg semester and was wondering.... did you find Med/Surg harder or easier than Fundamentals? Why?

Thank you NurseKate16! How was the program?? I haven't actually had a chance to talk to anyone that has been thru it at CCM. I am really excited and can't wait to start. (lol...funny how that works, right....then a month in you want to die cause the work is so much. I do that every semester. hehe)

Hello. Has anyone taken Nursing 1 along with other classes? I am in a situation that requires me to be a fulltime student (12 credits), however, my first semester of Nursing only ends up being 7 credits so I need 5 more credits. If you have taken other classes with Nursing 1....what were they? Was it too much? Any help would be great! I am really scared to overload myself. Thanks!

You can do it! Go ahead and take both together. I just finished my semester taking both of those class plus two others and I did well. Taking the classes together actually helped me because at certain points they complement each other, helping you to understand things better. Best of luck :)

Hello. I actually have applied to the same program for this Fall's semester. Did you end up handing in your application? If so, I think it was a good idea. Even though the two grades get transfered in as a "C", your "A"'s in the other classes you are taking now will even out your points so it will be like you got "B"s in all the sciences. Try not to worry. As long as you did well in the other non-science courses you should be fine and get into the program with no problem. Best of luck!

When I am finished with the program, pass the nclex, and get a job......(wow that sounded like a lot of things to do.) Anyway, I will go on a much needed vacation, renovate our house, and finally buy my husband that Ducati he has always wanted.

The hardest part for me was also Urinary in A&P 2. Everything else I really enjoyed.

I think starting a Micro thread is a great idea! I am starting Micro and A&P II on the 17th and am starting to get a bit nervous.
