So, she does drugs... (advice please)
Just because a person is on mediaction for pain does not imply that they are impaired. This rule about no meds 8 hours before a shift...well, if I have pain and know these medications do not effect my working ability, why would I suffer for the shift? There are many people with chronic pain issues and they do perfectly fine on their medications while working. Its not like we can just quit working because we find ourselves in this situation. The bills still have to get paid. As far as informing staf, if I did not see this activity I would not report it.

What Makes Nursing Beautiful???
Seeing the look of appreciation on an elderly patient's face when you do simple tasks; such as getting her sweater for her because she's cold. Watching a person's health improve with your care and attention. The feeling you get at the end of a hard day and know that you made a difference in someone's life today.

Good Shoes
I like Dansko's but find that my toes hurt towards the end of the shift. I don't get that achy, tired feeling though. I have a pair of the sling back clogs. I just bought a pair of Croc's, haven't tried them out yet. Also like New Balnce for comfort and Free Spirits.

Have just been off work for a month D/T avascular necrosis and now I've been dx. with fibro! What next? Taking my vitamins:)

Preparing for Hurricane Frances..Any other Floridians out there??
Fort Myers here...just alot of heavy wind and rain. Were not going to exp. what we did with Charlie. Seems this one is going up the coast. Problem is you never know if things change suddenly. Hope everyone is safe. I hated losing power for 6 days after Charlie. Toward the end of the week after we couldn't even find ice.

Florida Roll Call ......
:) Hello Everyone! My husband and I moved here to Ft. Myers from Wisconsin just in time for hurricane Charlie! Aside from some tree's and utility poles down, no major damage. We were without power for 6 days tho'. and what fun that was getting ready for a new job by candlelight :-) Worked geriatrics in WI., and took a job here in LTC but have since left that postion for various reasons. Am now interviewing for Lee Mem. Hosp. and also a LTC and Hospice position. Not sure what I'll decide at this point. I love our area, and the heat wasn't as bad as everyone told me it would be. I have enjoyed getting to know our new area and especially all the shopping area's. I am looking forward to my first warm Christmas, but do miss my children who still live in WI. Anyone with info on FT. Myer's area nurs. jobs please send me a private message. Its difficult not knowing which are good facilities and where to stay away from. Thanks..and for those of you on the coast... I pray you stay safe. KZ :uhoh21:

Places that are bearable?
HELP..I need a job fast. I'm in Ft. Myers area, and am not sure where to apply for nurs. position. Background in geriatrics, but would like to try something new. I have an RN license. Surely there must be FL. nurses reading who can give me some good tips. Best hospital? Home care? Clinic? any ideas would be appreciated. Don't know how I'll wait 3 months for med. ins. down here...which is what I'm finding in my search. Anyone know of employment where its 30 day wait for medical coverage? Thanks everyone.:)
