I just came across this post, and I know it's kind of old now, but I was one of the students who was suppose to start in the spring of 2011. They told me personall that I was guaranteed a seat, which lead me to decline my seat in other programs. I got the news just days before Thanksgiving, and, needless to say, I didn't have much to be thankful for that year. I tried everything I could think of to save the program. I sent tons of emails, and eventually no one at HSU would respond to me. Closing this program was a terrible decision, but I try to think that everything happens for a reason, and now I am getting ready to begin an LVN program and take babysteps to getting my BSN!

Everyone who doesn't get in gets a waitlist number (assuming they had a complete application) If someone who got into the program declines their seat then the next person on the waitlist will get in, so when the Fall 2011 program starts you will get an updated waitlist number and asked if you want to remain on the waitlist. This number will be lower than your original number, you won't get anyone ahead of you on the waitlist. Also, they usually move through the waitlist pretty fast, so if you have even a semi-decent waitlist number then you have a good chance of getting in next time, but make sure you remain on the waitlist.

Being # 4, I think that you will definately get in, but I don't know what will happen if you don't show up to the mandatory orientation. Make sure you get a response about that, and if they say it's ok for you to miss it then you should try to get something in writing that says that...just to make sure!

If you decline your seat, you will have to re-apply, and being # 4 I can say that I am almost certain that you will be offered a seat in the program. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Yes, I had to fill out 3 separate appliations...one for LVN, Del Norte, one for LVN, Eureka, and one for ADN, Eureka. The LVN program in Del Norte only starts every other year. I was really suprised how quickly the waitlist goes for the RN because I was # 103 last year and this year I had to reapply and am # 38. Good luck, and I hope you get to move up the waitlist quickly!!!

you never know how quick the waitlist will move. I got in to the LVN program in Eureka and in Crescent City, so I will be declining my seat in Eureka, and accepting in CC. Good luck!!!

#20 on the waitlist is pretty good. I applied last year and was 103 on the waitlist, so it moves pretty quickly! I was supposed to be in the BSN program at HSU, so I removed myself from all waitlists, and declined my seat in the LVN program last year, but I just got my letters and got into both LVN programs. I haven't gotten my letter for the RN program yet! Good Luck in nursing school!!!:)
