I wore business casual for my interview. Every time I have had any kind of an interview, and the interviewer asks me "Do you have any questions," I usually focus the question on them asking, "What brought you into nursing?" or "What is your favorite part of working in the medical field?" etc. Not saying it's the "correct" thing to say, but it has ALWAYS worked to my advantage. Job interviews, school interviews, etc! I hope it helps you!

If it means anything, I doubt you're alone :) I think a lot people are having credit issues/ filing for bankruptcy in this economy. If they were to discriminate against you, they would have to discriminate against MANY others. Including me! I had to BK due to hefty hospital bills back in the day. Good luck!

Hi guys obviously its been a while! I ended up taking a BLS class today with a friend rather than Kaplan's CPR class...It was fairly easy...but my arms are sore haha! Sadly! One more week before school starts and I am getting very excited! How's everyone else doing?

I am doing days at Kaplan. So it will be Monday thru Friday 8:00 - 5:00. Although, and I would love someone's input on this, I've heard from a few people that lecture never goes past 3:30 or 4:00...I am curious to find out if this is true or not...

Thanks again for the info. I would like to work at least a few days a month...perhaps during the weekends to earn a few bucks...haha! I have a two year old and one of my loans I am starting to pay back immediately so... I will take the CNA test...seems a waste not to...My buddy works in assisted living and said she could definitely give me a few per diem shifts a month...so I'm gonna take it!

I get that reaction...I had kidney stones and refused narcotics (I have terrible side effects i.e. non stop vomiting) They finally convinced me to take Demerol..but they thought I was nuts!

That's scary. You think someone who has a misdemeanor of domestic violence should have a time limit and it just should just be waved from their "permanent record" without any questions asked??? Or theft, loaded firearm in a public place, indecent exposure. All of these things are recognized as misdemeanors, and the list goes on. You cannot place a "time limit" on a crime committed because every case is different! A man punches a wall...domestic violence. A man beats the you know what out of his girlfriend, misdemeanor. Sure it has the potential to be a felony, but nine out of ten times the DA does not take the case on. So do you truly think it fair to put the man who punches a wall with the man who tried to obliterate his girlfriend? Or do you think it's safe to say okay guy who beat up his girlfriend, you have to wait five years, and you have to be on your best behavior and not kill your girlfriend, but then we will give you a license no questions asked...That's just crazy. That's like saying there should be a set jail time for people who commit crimes. There is a reason we have court, judges and trials.

Awesome Lyn!!! I found a cool link on here that someone posted for nursing fundamentals through brooksidepress.org that I have been reading over. I'm excited to find someone else going through this program! yay! We will have to meet up at orientation!...Have you looked into white shoes yet? That's about the only thing I have left to do...buy my shoes haha! Are you CPR certified yet or are you takin the class in June?

Aye Aye Aye, I typed up a long response and my son hit refresh...and now it's gone! Anyways..in a short statement. Yes I agree with you both. My point was not to say that people with misdemeanors are bad people. My significant other is law enforcement, and all it takes is a "They hit me". It doesn't matter if he knows its one hundred percent BS...he or she is going to jail. It's a shame, and it's not always right. As for the botox, perhaps it was a bad example. I wasn't stating it was a lack of experience. I work in plastic surgery so obviously I have no problem with botox, fillers, or whatever your heart may desire lol. My point was simply to say that it's not fair to lump people in one age group and call them immature and unworldly, but then say that its unfair to stereotype all people with criminal histories. I'm not here to stir the pot, in fact I agree with you that many people have BS charges that have stuck with them for a very long time. I think that anyone with a simple misdemeanor charge should have the right to present their case before live bodies, and in a timely manner so that they aren't unemployed for a year while the BON drag their feet. I definitely do wish you the best of luck, and I hope the BON will realize you are an intelligent, and obviously determined person. The BON also needs to realize someone who is irresponsible, and makes poor decisions would more than likely NOT make it through nursing school. Aww I'm sorry. I know my boyfriend is in the process of house shopping too...so we are extremely tight. I'm just getting a pair of shoes and reading glasses LOL! The house will be so worth it! Can't wait to walk into a house and know...this is my home! So on another note- They just drew a few vials of blood for the titers. I'm going to get my results tomorrow. As for the TB test, my mom was exposed in Hawaii when she was in the Navy. She had to take the INH treatment for six months..ick. Anyways...when she started nursing school, she proved to them she was already exposed and treated, but they made her take the skin test regardless. Her entire arm broke into welts. She ended up having to have the chest xray which was obviously negative. But she said her welts showed up almost instantly after having the injection, so I don't worry too much after a day haha.

Haha yeah they were pretty strict...And the worst part- I didn't know if I could fill the cup or not She warned me if I didn't fill to a certain line it was an automatic re-take. It was definitely a little more eventful than drug tests I've taken in the past. I think the most awkward part is putting toilet paper in the toilet and not being able to flush it LOL. But at least it's all said and done at this point. All I'm waiting for are the titer results..and I have to have my TB test read tomorrow. After that...I'm done with all of that excitement! I do think I'm gonna look at shoes tomorrow.

Okay, so I had my physical, my TB test, a Tdap immunization, and my blood drawn for titers. Right after that I went and did my drug test. It was not an observed drug test thank God! What they did do is check my pockets, took my belongings into another room checked my hands, made me rinse my hands for 30 seconds, and dyed the toilet water blue. She said to fill the cup and bring it on out! I think I signed a waiver for every move she made, pouring the urine, closing the bag etc. Lol. But, it was a lot less painful than I thought it was going to be. My orientation is on June 17th, and class starts on June 20th! Woo!

I understand where you're coming from, and don't disagree with the fact that there are some extenuating circumstances when it comes to who should or shouldn't obtain a nursing license. However, do you truly find it fair to say that anyone who is 23 has had less of a life experience than someone who is 40? I know many people who have dealt with unimaginable hardships at a very young age, and people who are in their forties whose biggest concern is getting their routine botox injection. I just don't think it's fair that you ask someone not to be stereotypical and then turn around and do just that. I think everyone has a story, and everyone should be respected for their story. I do wish you luck...I hope that everything works out for you. Where there's a will there's a way and you are obviously determined. So high five to you.:yelclap:

Yeah I understand. I just went with my gut on the ones I didn't know, and kept the "always go with your first answer" saying in my brain the entire time. You will do well! Does your school allow you to retest to get a higher score if you don't do as well as you would like? If it helps at all..our DON was truly the most concerned with math. At 23, you have not had a chance yet to even be under fire. Life happens. Lol. You cannot paint with broad strokes and lump everyone into a stereotypical generalization Hmm.

Aww that's a shame about your fiance's insurance! Worth a shot right!? So I definitely looked into those Dansko Clogs...but I'm almost positive they don't allow them at my school. I think they have to be a lace up shoe...Oh well. Let me know what you end up picking!

Yeah Math is definitely my WORST..and somehow I did the best on the math? I had to laugh at little...I thank measuring formula for my son for the measurements part of the test haha.

I didn't think it was too bad...although there some medical terminology in there that if I didn't already work in the medical field I would be a little stumped on..So I thought studying the book was definitely worth it. A lot of the questions on our tests were "Are the words similar, opposite, or of no relation?" That sortof thing. But there were a few like "If the IV is patent, this means it's _____" and then they will say A. Open B. Closed C. Infected....etc etc..
