  1. Just asking ?... 22-24 skilled patient and 8 LTC on my station one charge nurse, one unit manager (day hours) and mostly 4 CNA'S. Is that normal? Fairly new but wanted to ask.
  2. I would recommend appealling it instead of waiting a year to re-apply. I had two dui's one form 2001 and one from 2008 both were misdemeanors. My timeline was the following: Graduated from school September 2010 Passed NCLEX January 2011 Denied License March 2011 Wrote to the board that I wanted to appeal April 2011 Received Hearing date December 2011 (for July 2012) Hired an attorney (January 2012) Settled and was approved on probationary license (June 2012) If you wait a year and then get denied again, that will put your wait time that much longer. If you only have one DUI and it was a misdemeanor that is all that was on your record, I am surprised you were denied? There were a few people in my class who had one dui and they were approved. I am so sorry you are having to go through this, I hope you will make the right decision, I know how hard and frustrating it can be. Believe me I lived it and I still feel like I need to pinch myself that this is over now. But I did not give up and I had faith that I knew that I had worked to hard and my dream was to become a nurse and I was not going to let anything get in my way. I was completely fine with the probation license, it was my fault for getting the 2 dui's in my past so I need to prove to them that will never happen again I will do whatever it is that ask me to do. Anyway, best of luck to you, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I would suggest if you do appeal, hire an attorney asap, maybe they can speed up the process also it helps with peace and mind as well.
  3. I am still waiting for my appeal date. I was notified this past April 2011 that Attorney General office will notifying me, but still has not. I called and they said the date could take up to a year. Very discouraging, because after one year you can re-apply for your license again, however they may still deny it again without going through the appeal process. I am in CA if that helps.
  4. I am still waiting for the appeal date. I sent off a letter stating I wanted to appeal and they sent one back saying that I will be hearing from the Attorney's General Office with a date. So far... since April 2011 I am still waiting. They said it can take up to a year. As far as your 2 Dui's, I think it depends how far apart they are, misdeameanors? I have two, both misdemeanors one from 2001 and the other 2008. I think if you want to be a nurse go ahead, but just know what is ahead of you. I have been told many times that if show remorse, letters from teachers ect., and rehab ect during the appeal that our chances are high to get a probationary license. I guess it just depends if this is truly what you want to do with your career.
  5. You can still get approved get your ATT info, take NCLEX and pass and still be denied of a nursing license. Trust me I know, I have 2 past dui's misdeameanors from 2000 and one from 2008. After passing NCLEX, I just received the denial letter this past April. I am in the appeals hearing process now.
  6. Thank you so much for the encouraging words. I am going to go to the appeal hearing and fight like heck to show them that I have changed and accept responsiblilty. I still just don't get why my nursing school would even allow me to enter into nursing school, after I told them about my 2 past duis. Also, I signed a criminal background check form that the school gave me for them to do their own check on me. I am still glad and grateful for my education but I have spent SOOO much money, studied and past the nclex and now denied. I am still in shock! Thank you again for the list of items to complete and the link. :)
  7. Jeff, you said you were going to get a lawyer... did he or she happen to tell you how it takes to hear from the attorney generals office? I received a letter from the board stating that they received my letter for the appeal hearing but I would be hearing from the attorney gen. office for future communication. It has been now over 3 weeks... I still can not believe the board denied my application after everything I went through! School, Blood IV cert, NCLEX and passed! Do you really think I should hire an attorney??
  8. Does anyone know if we can apply to other states, after you have been declined a license? Also, how long does our NCLEX pass stay in effect? I am just worried that this appeal process is going to take so long, am I going to have to re-take the NCLEX?
  9. I agree completely, I had background checks too, with 2 dui's (misdemeanors) one from ten years ago and the other one 3 years ago. I was stupid and made huge mistake, but I do not drink now and have learned a hard lesson. Unfortunately, the school that I paid $30K to as well told me that my past record of my 2 Dui's should not be a problem. They gladly took my money and my time!!!! Now for nothing! I have sent off a letter asking for an appeal, still waiting on the BON to send me date. I heard here in CA that it can take up to a year?? I swear I feel like suing the school, but I want to be a nurse!!! The schools SHOULD NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO BE ACCEPTED INTO PROGRAM THAT IN THE END YOU CAN'T USE YOUR DEGREE!!! I also agree with you in regards, to all of the current nurses that have dui's on their record they only get probation. At least they could of granted me a probationary license. I am so upset and not sure what to do.
  10. I have talked to two different attorney's, another $4500 - $7000 then the board also charges you for their investigation time (if they decide to give me a probationary license). I went ahead and sent in my letter for an appeal (administrative hearing), I am not sure if I am going to use a lawyer or represent myself. I wish the best for you, I hope you get your license. Are you in California? I agree, the schools should either tell us up front or not let us in at all if there was even a 50/50 chance that I may not receive my license.
  11. I forgot to mention that the 2 dui's were your standard misdemeanors. No wrecks, fights, ect...Of course the dui's are still bad, just wanted everyone to know that I have not felony's ect.. on my record.
  12. Help!! I recently graduated from LVN school iin California this past Sept 2010, took my blood/IV cert class, and then went on to PASS NCLEX. However, the day I recieved the letter I passed my NCLEX exam the BVNPT sent a second letter stating that there will be a delay until a criminal investigation is complete. Now after a 3 month wait I recieved a letter stating that I had been "Denied for LVN license"! From the very beginning, prior to being admitted into nursing school I told them upfront and the board about my past DUI's. I had one back in 2001 and then unfortunately another one in 2008. I know this is my fault and I take full responsiblity. I have completed all rehab classes, paid all fines ect... I was in the food and beverage industry for 18 years and decided to change my lifestyle for the better after my second DUI. I have always wanted to be a nurse since I was little girl and now my dream is shattered! I do not have the money to pay for a lawyer, especially after spending $37,000 for a private LVN school. Has anyone ever....went to the administrative hearing on their own??? What are the chances that I will ever get my license? Can I still apply to another state after being deined in California? I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any answers. Thank you
