  1. PhilipG- I don't think there is a limit to the number of apps that they receive but there will be an online assessment that you must complete. Ocennia- You didn't miss the app. I believe it's coming up on June 5th or 6th for the Summer New Grad cohort. Good Luck!
  2. Sorry to hear that :/ Myself and a few other super users I know haven't heard anything back from the units we interviewed with yet. We were all told we would hear back by yesterday and haven't gotten a response. Anyone know what the hold up might be? Thanks!
  3. Yup, it was a phone call. After the initial interview, I was told that they would be making calls for second round interviews by the end of the week. Others that I have talked to were told they would hear back within 7-10 days.
  4. I had my second interview on Monday. I think beyond the first interview the process is unit specific.
  5. Yup, got my rejection, too. Good luck to the rest of the troopers out there!
  6. I was told that when I talked to a recruiter for the Super User position. I think they want to know you have a local address because it shows you are more likely to stay after the completion of the program as opposed to moving out just for the job and then moving back after a year or two. They want commitment :/
  7. App status says "on hold" not sure what that means...
  8. Hello newgrad91! The info from the HR website (UCLA Health System Careers) is that the next new grad program starting in September will be accepting apps June 10-16, 2013. Having a local LA address will be helpful when you apply if you don't live here yet (I would recommend using a friend or relative's address). I don't know about chances, it really depends on how many applicants there are and how many positions that each unit decides they have available. I can tell you that they did not have a new grad program this last winter because of their Epic implementation and the spring cohort is only open to the internal new grads that were short-term super users. What that means for your chances for this summer, I'm not sure. It may help to stay in contact with the lead nurse recruiter for the program. Her info is listed on the new grad residency page under UCLA nursing. Good Luck!
  9. Yup, they are interviewing the week of the 15th. Good Luck Everyone!
  10. If you don't receive a call and the status changes to "interviewing" then you were not selected. Hopefully that is not the case for us! :)
  11. I precepted in Peds, too... that'll make three of us, hope that means that they are hiring at the children's hospital!
  12. Thanks for the tips! Does anyone else have orientation scheduled for 1:30 on Mon Dec 3rd? I noticed in the email with my class schedule. Looking forward to working with all of you! D
  13. Just a few questions: -Anyone attending the new hire orientation on Tues afternoon? -I was planning on going to Fresno immediately afterwards (~4:30ish), now this is probably a silly question, but how bad will traffic be taking 405 to 5 at that time? Should I wait it out or just trudge through it? -What all info do you get at the new hire session? -And I've been searching Uloop and craigslist for cheap places to stay through march but it doesn't look like there is much in the way of inexpensive housing (I'm hoping for Thank you and if I don't see you at orientation, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving! D
  14. I've been out of school nearly 6 months with only 2 interviews so far. Things are tough out here in California... only about 1/3 of my classmates have been hired, several have gone out of state and a few others had hospital connections. Good luck!
  15. I sympathize with the long drive, I'm from the bay area. I also heard right after so I was able to get my health screening in today! Congrats!
  16. Awesome, thank you. Keeping my fingers all goes well tomorrow! D
  17. I heard that they will be hiring about 400 new grads.
  18. Hi all, I'm interviewing on Tuesday the 13th. Wondering what the format of the interview was... single interviewer or multiple? Were you the only interviewee or were there multiple? I'm trying to figure out how to best prepare for this one. Without giving away specifics, did they ask questions/focus on nursing, teaching, Epic, computer systems or all of the above? For those of you that have started, how do you like it? Thanks! D
  19. It sounds like many of you have gotten great responses... I haven't gotten any calls back, have any of you had your preceptorships/ clinicals there or live in So-Cal? I'm from Nor-Cal and am wondering if it's because I live so far away :/ There is hardly anything as far as jobs go up here and I don't have anyone to to talk to about getting a leg up on the apps for many of the LA-area hospitals and am hoping to gain some insight. Thanks and Congrats ladies!
  20. I emailed the recruitment coordinator this morning and he has already responded! He said that hey are currently pre-screening over 700 applicants and will be routing those to the departments in December/January. Departments will be contacting applicants for interviews by mid January 2013. Good Luck!!!
  21. Yes, I'm from the bay area. I'm hoping it won't be as competitive as the last round but who knows :/
  22. Hi everyone, I just applied to UCD's new grad program for spring of next year and didn't see any threads so I though I'd start one. Please post any updates or info you get about the residency! Thanks!
  23. No idea, that is all the information I was given :/
  24. Hey guys, finally heard back from ***** ****** today, she said, "We are beginning to notify applicants if they have been or have not been selected." Yay, hope we all find out soon! Good Luck!!!
  25. #1 I graduated from an ABSN program 2 months ago and recently passed the nclex. I have a few applications out to several RN residencies and have also talked with several nurses I know that have given me contact information for nurse managers at a few local hospitals (which do not have new grad programs). I would prefer to get into a residency so that I can reinforce everything that was covered so quickly in school, but I am not sure how long I should hold out on contacting these potential employers. Do I apply and wait to hear from a local hospital? I am worried that I will get contacted for a local position before I hear back from the new grad programs. Any advice? #2 A semi-related question: How exactly do I approach these nurse managers? I will obviously gave the name of the nurse that referred me, but should I ask for a tour of the unit? Ask to meet with with her? I am worried that if I just ask if there have any openings, I would seem like most other applicants. What is a good way to make a positive impression on them before I ask that they keep me in mind if there are any openings? Thanks!
