AUGUST 2011 COT
Hi Tee_byrd...I just want to learn more about the process you went through. I am a new grad and I talked to a medical Navy recruiter. I'm almost done with my Nurse Corps Application except for the reference but I just want to know how long did you have to wait before you found out that you got in? And also if there is a chance for a new grad like me, because I kept asking my recruiter what my chance is, but he keeps saying that it's better to have experience and that it's very competitive. For a new grad I guess my best shot is my GPA, which I have above 3.5 ...I mean I don't want to get my hopes up that I would get picked, but I just want to know if the military even considers new grad, and if they do, how many do you think do they pick every fiscal year. Were you a new grad as well?

Sharp New Grad Residency Winter 2010/2011
Hi Laura... Thanks for the reply. Did you have the interview at Sharp Chula Vista? Were there a lot of behavioral questions too? coz I read from different posts that most of the interview questions are behavioral. I just don't know if it just depends on which Sharp the interview is. Did the interview last for an hour? Also, what's an ATI book? Is it the same as the Kaplan review book? Thanks!

Sharp Summer 2011 New Grad Program
I called them and asked for how many applicants they are interviewing, and the lady said it depends on which group/batch you are in. For the first one I think there are 16, and for the second one there are 14 so far. She doesn't know how many positions available but she said we could ask during our panel interview. Good luck to us :yelclap:

New grad dilemma
I think I will go ahead and continue my orientation with this company and still attend to those interviews if I could…I’ll worry about dealing with the manager later if I do get a better offer close by where I live. Update me on how you’re doing with your other interviews…and if you do get hired in the residency program, let me know how you handle it with the agency. I really hope you get the job in the residency program. Good luck to both of us! =D

New grad dilemma
@bshres: I just don't know how I would deal with it later when I get a better deal. When the manager interviewed me, she said that she would like her new hires to be working for them for 2-3 years, because they will be spending a lot of money on me and I said I had no problem with that...If I quit earlier than that, say 3 months or so...that's even worse because they already spent money on me vs quitting now that I haven't started. Like you, I also feel that I'm selfish if I do that...but again it's all business. It's me vs. the company...and I should worry about myself first than them...I just don't know how I would deal with this situation. By the way good luck with your orientation and your interview. I hope you get the job that you want. =)

New grad dilemma
I am in the similar position as you. I just got hired and will start in mid May for a regular nurse position. The hospital is very far away from where I live so I would have to relocate. I'm a new grad by the way. These past couple of days I've been getting call for new grad interviews in my hometown. I actually don't know what I should do. Some of my family and friends said that take the job and if I get a better offer than move to that. But it's not that easy especially if you know that the hospital is investing a lot of money on you and then you just leaving them like that. I am thinking about taking the chances of actually going to these 3 interviews and letting my future company right now that I could not work for them due to better offers...I actually haven't decide yet, but yeah...this is very irritating. The weather is so good outside right now that I can't even appreciate it at this moment because of this...any advice would be greatly appreciated.

New Grad RN, BSN in So. California Seeking Nursing Job Alternatives - Please advice!
Try to look for a job where other new grads are not looking into... Try small hospitals, and even hospitals without new grad. If it says registered nurse with 1 year acute experience preferred, try it...That's how I did it. I graduated in Dec with BSN and just a job offer in Fresno...good luck in job hunting...I know how frustrating it is, you just need to be patient and try to expand your preference

New grad, just got a job offer in fresno, needs advice pls
Hi, to all! I am a new graduate nurse from San Diego and I just got a job offer in Fresno after my interview 2 days ago...I graduated with my BSN in Dec. I was offered $28/hr...I was wondering if that is the amount to start for a new grad with BSN? Obviously salary for a new grad here in San Diego is much higher, because of the cost of living too... I just want to get an idea. Also, if you do live in Fresno, can you give me advice in which area to live in? I just want to be in a safe neighborhood as I will be moving there and will be living there by myself. Thank you in advance!

FY 2011 for Navy Nurse Corps
Hi SunSurfRN, It is good to know that you had a good experience with the Navy . I am also open to either Reserve or Active Duty.. just want to get ahead of the game..coz I know that if I'm already working as a Reserve if there is an open spot it will be easier for me to go Active rather than getting in and be Active right away...I will also have an interview next week with a home health service, just a part time job while I wait to get a full time one. I just have a few questions for you though... 1. When did you apply for the Reserve? and When did you graduate? 2. What was the process like with the Navy Reserve? 3. From which State and City did you contact a Navy Medical Recruiter? 4. And do you mind if I ask for your medical recruiter name and number? (this one you can just pm me or however you wanna give it if you're willing). I am just like one of those new grad who is stuck and willing to do anything...I already applied in 80+ hospitals all over California and called each one of them to follow up my application, yet they wanted one year acute experience...Thanks a lot for this message...this gave me hope...Update me for any adventure you're gonna have with the Navy...I'm very interested to know...:):):)

FY 2011 for Navy Nurse Corps
Thanks for the reply B52-H. I talked to another recruiter and said the same thing, which is to call back in July...I asked him what is my chance in getting in since I'm a new grad, and he told me that it is basically a first come first serve, and that it depends on the budget and how many spaces they have to fill in..and for the airforce, they said to call back in June...I guess I'll just have to wait... I'm still looking for a position in many hospitals, but like in the military, it is very tough to get a job outside as well.

FY 2011 for Navy Nurse Corps
Hi, I have been following threads about the Nurse Officer Corps Program both the Navy and the Airforce. I'm a new grad, graduated in Dec. 2010. I'm planning to join the Navy, and I just called a Navy healthcare recruiter a week ago, but he said to call back in July as they have so many applicants. I was told that all the spots for FY 2011 are filled...I don't know if I got this right, but I think I heard him say something about waiting list...so does it mean that there are a few spots left for FY 2012? I contacted another recruiter, an Enlisted one. He collected all the paperworks such as my transcript, copy of my BSN and license....He emailed his medical officer and forwarded my paperworks and he said that he or the medical officer would call me and arrange for an officer interview. I don't want to get my hopes up or anything as I know that it has been very difficult to get accepted especially for a new grad like me. Any feedbacks on how the process goes, how long it takes...and if they are even accepting new grads...I know that I should be contacting the healthcare recruiter directly but he shows no interest to me at all...Are all healthcare recruiters like this with new grads? Do you guys think working in nursing homes for now will make me stand out even though it's non-acute experience? Sorry I have too many questions... I really appreciate it if anyone can lead me to the right direction.
