RN to NP in Ontario
Hi, I currently hold a BScN in Nursing and have been a practicing RN since 2015. Im interested in the NP Program. Has anyone transitioned from RN to NP recently? Which university would you recommend? Was hoping to start in Winter 2022 but seems like all the programs begin in the fall. Pros & Cons?

Question re: Overtime
Hey I have just recently graduated and began a new position as an RN on an extremely busy busy medicine unit. My shifts run from 0730 to 1930 and 1930 to 0730. I have noticed my colleagues never ever leave on time, usually 15-30 minutes past their shifts. I think I am pretty good at time management as I have had RPN experience for the past 3 years and am used to the duties of a practicing nurse. However, I cannot seem to ever be finished on time and am left charting 30-40 minutes past my shift. I barely am able to catch a quick bite throughout the day on a 10 minute break. The nurses I spoke to seem to be accustomed to this and do not see anything wrong. Now, no lunch breaks, 15 minutes if i get lucky. Supper break, no such thing. I recently just had my first pay check and I have seen that the extra 30 minutes per shift I stay extra do not qualify for OT pay. We use a fingerprint sign in so the manager is quite aware of when we begin shift and when we finish shift (up to the minute). Is this fair!?

Mentally ill and refusal of meds
Hi Everyone I have a question regarding medication refusal. We all know that every patient has the right to refuse medications. If a patient is mentally ill (involuntary-ie form 1 or form 3) can they refuse medications?,, they are admitted against their will but do they have this right to refuse meds? Looking for some answers, PLEEASE! I should mention I am an RPN practicing in Ontario, Canada. THanks:)

Suicide on unit
Hey everyone! Unfortunately there has been a suicide on my unit where I work. I work at an adult Mental Health unit... i was one of the nurses taking care of this patient, I was not working the shift that she did this. I am distraught.. this lady was not one of our "typical" mental health patients.... No one ever suspected her of this......... A code blue was called and they revived her but unfortuntaly she is brain dead and its only a matter of time until they unplug her. She has no family or friends. Has any one else been in this kind of situation??????

further education grants/bursaries
Hi Everyone! I am a newly graduated RPN in Ontario.. I am pleased to announce I got accepted to the bridging program at centennial college with Ryerson, I will be starting in Fall 2011. Currently i am not employed I am still looking for a job. I plan to work as much as I can before I begin school again. Then I am thinking of doing p/t or casual while in school... Here is my question.. Anyone know of any bursaries or grants that certain hospitals provide for further education?? Or anything provided by rpnao or cno? I know there is a 1500 dollar per year set in by the govt for further education. Any help would be much appreciated. THank you! :)

CNO EXAM FOR RPN
i have just written the CPNRE in january, the test is not hard though it requires critical thinking... there is an exam practise book with multiple choice questions that will guide u as to what type of questions you can expect. make sure you pay attention to words like, "first thing, initially, most importantly.. etc" those r some key words that can change the meaning of the whole question. I am sure you will do fine! :) good luck!
