  1. I really appreciate you. Thank you for responding. Peace to you and all those around you.
  2. I did the in-person Barkley review in early April. That was my 2nd time. I'm retaking it in June as well. I'm contemplating how to study again. But I'm a bit lost.
  3. I need help! I am one step away from moving into the NP field. I need to retake the exam but I can't do it the same way as before. I went through the Barkley book 4-5 times and the Barkley audio about the same. I took the DRTs but never scored above an 80. Anyone have advice to give?
  4. Right, but I wonder if once I complete the FNP program I should continue working as an RN in the ICU. That way I could keep up my skills while working Part Time as an NP. Perhaps do 2 days in ICU and 2 days as an NP? Have you heard of anyone doing this?
  5. Did you end up completing your CRNA? I’m interested in something similar. I have 3+ years in ICU and am looking into FNP programs. One nearest me is $20-25,000 and it’s just miles from my house. Did you end up doing both? im wondering if I can work as a FNP part-time while staying as a bedside RN Perdiem in the ICU and the. later applying to CRNA. Thoughts?

  7. Hi Noctor Durse! Congratulations on passing the NCLEX! I was a new grad 7+ years ago so I’m not sure how my name got tagged to your question. I do know that getting into LA County takes a miracle and Time. But I’ve heard good things about working there. Definitely compare it to the UC hospitals (UC Irvine, UCLA, etc) Good luck!
  8. But weren't you so happy helping others? I was as a volunteer. Plus, studies show it improves your quality of life and adds years to your life!
  9. YES! Do it! It took me 8months to find a job as a new grad after I passed the NCLEX. After applying to my hospital of choice and discovering there were 300 applicants for 1 job, I knew that I had to do something different. So, I went to the volunteer office to find out what my options would be to volunteer. The coordinator there placed me on a med/surg tele floor. I was very clear with the manager and charge RN's that I wanted to work as an RN there. When the job was posted, I immediately applied, informed my manager and was hired on the same floor! I can't reinforce the importance of volunteer work. It allowed people to get to know me and allowed me to get to know others. Now, I've been working there for 5 years and am so grateful. Good luck!
  10. I ended up getting hired at UC Irvine Medical Center. It will be 2 years in Feb. Wow, time flies. At one time, I was really hoping for LA USC ED I even went to volunteer there but was turned down because I'm an RN. Anyhoo, I'm content working the tele floor at UCI. I was able to volunteer at UCI and I think that was key in getting me to stand out above all the other 300 applicants.
  11. I honestly don't know what happened to my application status. AND, it was a miracle that I was hired. If you're still searching for a job, I would suggest finding THE hospital you want to work with, become a volunteer or a nurses aide. Hoag and UCI both have volunteer programs and this is a great time of year to get involved. All the best to you.
  12. Hi Everyone! I work full-time as a telemetry RN, I'm a father of 3 girls and my wife works as well, so finding time to study (and sleep) has been a challenge. I commute about 25 minutes 1 way to work. Our hospitals library has one book and one hand-book for the PCCN. Not much. Did anyone use the audio PCCN Certification audio CD's? I'm really interested if they are worth the $130 for 6 cd's on amazon.
  13. nursenursingnursed: I heard that they are supposed to have a new grad program opening in July. If I were you, I would check everyday in June and everyday in July. And occasionally call HR to speak with an RN recruiter to find out if they know of any specific start date.
  14. Right. The point is to get hired. In this market you have to know someone, or be Johnny-on-the-spot, or both. When the positions come up they have to go from the nurse managers to HR and then from HR to the webmaster, etc, etc... That takes time and by the time it's posted, they likely already have someone to fill the position. So, to get the news first, call the RN recruiters.
  15. You can wait for the letter. It took me about 4 weeks to get it. However, you can also call to find out if they plan on hiring and if so, in which departments. I've had my letter for a couple of months now and I call every week to find out if anything is new. You have to be persistent (and kind). Let them know who you are and bug them until you get hired. Good luck!
  16. Hi derosan: If you want a job, don't wait. Right now there are atleast 40 applicants/1 job. Call all the RN recruiters atleast every week.
  17. 3T!!! Can't wait to practice as an RN.
  18. Hi nursemurf8: I'll be on 3T its a Cardiac Telemetry unit.
  19. Thank you erylRN: I got the job!!! Which dept. are you working in? did you start yet? i believe i start my didactic training in March.
  20. erylRN: Congratulations! What do you recommend as far as preparing for the interview for UCI Medical Center?
  21. Hi Dance_RN: Would you tell me how I can best prepare for an interview at UCI Medical Center? What unit are you working on?
  22. Hi khennely14: What would you recommend for preparing for the Civil Service Interview?
  23. Hi RNtriathlete: What would you recommend that I should do to prepare for the Civil Service interview?
  24. Hello. I have my LA County Civil Service interview for RN 1 very soon. Can you give any pointers as to how I should prepare?
