  1. Peds nurse in a Doc's office and LOVING it:yeah: I make $23 an hour, love my families and doctors, help out wherever I can, stay busy but don't have to CONSTANTLY have my license on the line. The drawback is that I don't do IVs or draw blood. I am joining the Air Force Reserve to keep my training in all things and I think it will be a great balance between career and family- I am a single mom with no family nearby- but good friends that help when I need them.I'll let you know how it works out, but fresh out of nursing school the $45k sign on bonus is calling to me pretty strongly. If I get deployed it is for 4 months and my son goes with me to Germany which he is excited to do. Any questions I would be happy to answer. Good luck!
  2. :wink2: My papa (WWII vet) told me "there are no atheists in fox holes" so it stands to reason people receiving end of life care usually want to believe there is something else. But the conversation should still be patient initiated. It seems that it would come up with just about all Hospice patients at some point.
  3. How 'bout that test today? I fell asleep twice! I don't know if it was getting up at 4:30AM to study, or the cold med I took, but I def off my game today :smilecoffeeIlovecof
  4. aberrn- Where do you work? I will be graduating in '08 w/RN and I would LOVE to work a Baylor shift. I always thought that meant Fri, Sat and Sunday shifts. Does it change or is this a set thing? Thanks
  5. Wow Atona, That sounds adventurous! Does your hus watch the kids while you work, do you homeschool the older ones? I would love to do something like this! Do you have a home base to back to? what is your typical length of time? Sorry for all the questions, but I didn't know this was possible with a family:monkeydance: Tracy
  6. I hear ya baby! I have been a dosimetry tech at a nuclear plant, a flightline mechanic in the Air Force, an Exercise Physiologist working rehab, and (currently) a mother of a 3 year old boy! I am going back to school in January for my RN Think about it like this: You will be 2 years older two years from now no mater what- what else are you going to be? Never let fear stand in the way, my friend.
  7. I went to Kennesaw and graduated in '98 with a BS in Exercise Physiology. Now I am returning to get my BSN. They have a very high pass rate for the NCLEX and the price is very reasonable. Go to kennesaw.edu to find out more about it. Fran Paul the director is pretty available if you have further questions, but write them down before you walk into her office or you will leave feeling confused:confused:
  8. I'm a fellow vet and finished at Kennesaw State for my first degree (Exercise Physiology) now I am ready to go back for my BSN and only have to take upper level nursing classes. I start in January, work about 20 hrs a week and have a husband and a 3 year old boy- so I'm a little nervous about the time needed :uhoh21: Having a degree already definitley hampers the aid route. Have you started yet?
  9. I live North of atlanta, and know the prospects look good for the new-grads in this area. I think the average is about $20/he. How do you get started in Cath Lab?
  10. I understand what you mean about all the negative posts, they scare me too. I am starting my junior year in January, and I'm a little nervous about the lack of happy nurses out there. :chair: The truth is there are a lot of different opportunities out there right now and you don't need to stay in a job that you hate for any reason. My BS is in Exercise Physiology and I understand your interest in having a more direct impact on your people. Stick to it is my advice, there is a lot to choose from. :)
