Tips and Tricks on How to Get a Job as a New Graduate RN!
LOVED your article! Awesome tips! I just passed NCLEX and had over 500 clinical hours while in school but that doesn't seem to help too much. S o . . .I'm starting volunteering at the hospital I want to work at the most! While I'm doing that, I plan to do lots of things you suggest and stop sending resumes into the black hole of hell! I'll keep you posted if some of your suggestions work for me! Thanks again for taking the time to share your words of wisdom!

Alvin Community College TX Fall 2013
Congratulations! I just graduated from Alvin and passed my NCLEX so if you go there, I can say firsthand that you'll be well prepared when you get done. If you need any advice about their program, just message me.

RN NCLEX Key to Success
Remember that if you run out of time, only your last 60 questions are graded. What everyone doesn't realize is that the more questions you get, the more opportunities they're giving you to pass. If they keep on with questions, at least you know you're still in the game so it's important not to lose focus and just start randomly selecting answers. Did you do the Pearson Vue trick? It proved true for everyone I know that has taken it since May. The couple of people I know that didn't pass got the credit card menu to go ahead and pay for the new registration, but everyone that passed got the popup that said you couldn't schedule and you should contact your board for assistance. Good luck!

Help, my school won't allow me to take Nclex.
We had several people that didn't attend graduation but still were issued Affidavits of Graduation. Our Affidavits of Graduation were done before the actual ceremony and it was a requirement that you attended if you wanted to get your ATT. Did any of this happen in your case? If you're going to take the NCLEX, you need to take a prep course anyway. I'd do that and then take the school's course. You should pass with flying colors no matter if they write the test or not.

RN NCLEX Key to Success
Me and my friends were all getting in the 60s from Hurst and I know for sure that I passed today and they feel very confident they did, too, although they can't find out until tomorrow.

OMG PASSED! (found out on boards before I found out from Pearson!)
What I understand about the Texas BON is they update on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I took mine on Tuesday at 4:30 but at 9:00 a.m. my license showed up along with some of my friends that also took the test on Tuesday. As far as my friends who took the test on Wednesday, they have to wait and pay the money tomorrow, I assume, to have a fantastic weekend, like I'll be having!! None of theirs are posted yet.

Resources to help pay for nclex exam fee
I wanted to get the word out there, because it was a total shock to my graduating class, that Texas Workforce Commission will pay up to $200 for testing required for any Texas worker to get a job -- which in our case is NCLEX, and the fee just happens to also be $200. Everyone please try to get the word out because, as far as I can tell, this money is just sitting there unclaimed because nobody knows it is there and available. I went through the whole procedure with them and received my check within a week to 10 days. I had to go pick my check up, but I've heard some of the TWC offices mailed the checks to students and then the student forwarded to NCLEX. I went through the Texas City location and they required us to first register as a worker at workintexas.com. It's just like entering your resume into the system and you will add the fact that you're going to seek work as an RN. You will just list 0 months experience as an RN, of course, and just skip the skills section on that page. Then the student should enter at least two of their past jobs and info from their resume'. For the student to receive the money, TWC just wants to know that you are serious about going to work after you receive your license. After you register (I would suggest doing this at home), just go up to your closest Texas Workforce Commission office and tell them you need to speak with someone regarding the $200 NCLEX testing fee assistance that is available for nurses. You will need to bring: 1) CURRENT state issued ID card or driver’s license 2) A copy of the webpage at https://www.ncsbn.org/2017.htm. It shows who TWC will issue the payment to and contains more details of the program. No payments will be paid online or to the student directly. The student needs to ensure that WORKFORCE EXCEPTION is in the memo line of the check and that this third-party payment is sent to: NCLEX Workforce Program Pearson Vue 5601 Green Valley Drive, Room 220 Bloomington, MN 55437 Please note that this address is only for third-party payments. Hope this helps!

Background Check Prior To School
I just wanted to say that PRIOR to even being able to apply for admission to my particular nursing school in Texas, if you have any issues that you aren't able to unequivocably answer "no" to on your NCLEX Application -- whether your issue is criminal, mental illness/treatment, past drug addictions/treatment, whether you're the subject of grand jury investigation, ever been denied renewal of any professional license, etc. -- you have to submit what is called an Endorsement Application and all backup documentation along with your fingerprints to the BON and await their reply, which might take several months. They will send a letter approving or disapproving your Application and will in addition say that upon meeting graduation requirements and paying required fees, you are ELIGIBLE to sit for the NCLEX and to practice as a Graduate Nurse. So I would call that a pre-approval. I have also heard that if additional issues come up AFTER the BON issued the pre-approval letter, you will have an investigation and you have to submit backup documentation, etc. I'm sure that in this case, obviously, you would be held to a much different standard than pre-nursing education.

Public's lack of knowledge about what nursing actually is
LOL. Or finding an empty room to sneak away and have sex in -- yeah, that kind of stuff goes on all the time?!!
