  1. Does anyone know how financial aid loans work? When do we apply for them? How much do they give us each semester? I'm asking because I don't think I'll be working while going to school...
  2. I hear it's almost impossible to be hired at Jackson as a full-time nurse. There is per diem and pool nurses but getting into the Jackson Health System as a full-time is supposedly challenging. Has anyone else heard this?
  3. So I keep hearing different things about when will we be notified of our acceptance/rejection... Some people say mid-October. Others say by mid-November. One advisor from the medical campus even told me around Christmas while on the phone with her. Anyone with some inside information?! Anyone know someone from the nursing department with some real, credible info? :smackingf
  4. From what I've read I think that Baptist has a scholar program with MDC; while Jackson has one with UM. This may be wrong so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. According to the advisor I spoke with, everyone should know whether or not they were accepted by mid-October. But I hope to hear from them much sooner. I applied with a 4.0 and a 82% test score. Assuming I get in both programs, I think I'd choose accelerated over generic. Is there a way we can check to see if our applications were successfully put in the system? After Sept 1, do all of our applications get moved from the advisement office to the nursing department? Thanks!
  5. Hi everybody, I'm really glad to have found this thread. I also just finished applying a few days ago for Spring '12 for both the Generic and Accelerated programs. Let me ask you all what you think: Let's assume you had the choice of either going to generic (4 semesters) or accelerated (3 semesters) which one would you choose and why? Also, I heard that MDC nursing students may have the option of applying to hospital scholar programs like those offered by Jackson and Baptist. Is this true? And which would you choose between Jackson and Baptist? Thanks!
  6. I did not go to the Spring open house, but I will definitely go to the next one...
  7. I just did!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  8. some of you are a bit ahead of me but i also will be applying to mdc nursing accelerated/generic program. but i will be applying to spring 2012 program. i will be applying by september. :redpinkhe:lol2::):cool:
  9. Hey Sheeco, 1) In my opinion I think it's a good idea that you apply to generic, accelerated and even part-time. Whatever you can do to better your chances of getting into nursing school at MDC is worthwhile. 2) As of this moment I don't know much about the PTK honor society but it definitely looks like something that I'll be joining after the summer semester or in nursing school. 3) Do what you can do to end up with an A in chemistry. Nothing below a 90%. Even if you have to meet the professor after hours and ask for extra credit. GPA is worth 40% of selection criteria in MDC...
  10. I'm applying to both the Generic and Accelerated nursing RN program by the September 1st deadline to then begin the program (if accepted) in January. At both kendall and homestead campus, I'm currently taking A&P1 w/lab and chem for health sciences w/ lab. I will do the rest of the pre-reqs this summer and take the TEAS exam. I plan to do very well in everything as I hear MDC nursing is very competitive. As a plan B, I will probably continue taking other pre-reqs for other nursing programs elsewhere (UM, FIU, etc.) in the case I do not get in MDC's program.
