UCLA New Grad RN SUMMER 2011
Hello everyone! So I interviewed on May 24th for the Perioperative Training Program and it has been a really long wait. I have called twice (once at 2 weeks after the interview and once at 4 weeks after the interview) and left a message both times with one of the ladies I interviewed with. Now it has been 6 weeks since the interview...I was just wondering, for those of you who have gotten some kind of answer one way or another, how long did you wait? When should I call again or should I send an email? Who did you hear from? HR or one of the interviewers?? I would be moving from Michigan and the program starts early September, so I feel like I'm running out of time! I would appreciate any advice/information that anyone has!!! Thanks so much!!

Nursing School Blues
Hey there! Sorry so long to respond!!! I just wanted to let you know that I didn't end up using anything to develop critical thinking skills, they just developed over time! I know that's not really what you want to hear and it looks like you've got quite a few suggestions here, so I really hope you're not still discouraged!! It'll come to you, it's just re-training yourself to think differently when test taking (easier said than done). But I know you can do it! And once you get it it'll be second nature (ish)! :) Best of luck to you!!!

Nursing School Blues
I also wanted to add that it does get better! There were some times (very few) that I felt like quitting because it is difficult, but you can get through it!!! It is stressful, but it will be worth it in the end! What I liked to tell myself when I was feeling stressed was that I am lucky to be in a nursing program because there are sooo many people who would love to be admitted but cannot! So hang in there! You're there for a reason :-)

Nursing School Blues
Hello PSUAlum, I am graduating from a four year program in a few days and reading this post brought me back to how I felt at the very beginning of nursing school! I remember the first critical thinking exam that I took, I got a score somewhere in the low 60s! I was surprised and very upset, it seemed extremely difficult and like all of the answers were correct, it was just about finding the "best right answer". There is hope! Your critical thinking skills will improve with time. Another thing that you might try is to find information about critical thinking test taking strategies. I know that it is definitely a skill that you have to learn and develop and they don't do much in the way of teaching you how to think critically in a test-taking environment. It really is unfortunate that this learning experience has to negatively affect grades. I wish you the best!

Community College or University...that is the question
I think it's great that you have finished your pre-reqs at a community college! I am just finishing my BSN from a university in a few days! I would recommend that you go for the BSN, it will be easier to get into a nursing program right away with all of the pre-reqs done and you have saved a lot of money this way! The four years really do go by quickly! You might only have three years of actual nursing school since you have pre-requisites done!! Good luck!!!

Working full time while in school
I have worked part time throughout nursing school and been able to do so without (much) problem. Full time would be very difficult though!! I hope you figure this out! Best of luck to you!!!

Need Help
I think you should be fine, Psychology is not too difficult and you will be able to focus primarily on Anatomy and Physiology!!

What did you think of General Psychology?
I have really enjoyed any general psych class that I have taken. I took one in high school, one at a community college while I was still in high school, and then one at my university. I have always found them to be very interesting and not too challenging. A lot of theory-based information, but I found it very interesting! It would have been more difficult with a biological focus to psychology. I think the classes that I have taken have been easier because they were more theory-based.

Just starting out
Hello! One thing that you might want to consider is getting the two year degree and then doing an RN to BSN program. We had several "non-traditional" students in my BSN program and we also had many RN to BSN students toward the end. This way you can work as a 2 year prepared RN and work on additional education while you're working! Good luck!!

UCLA New Grad RN SUMMER 2011
Hey guys!! So I've been following this thread, applied to the Summer New Grad program the day it opened as well. I will graduate with my BSN in a few days. I am a little bit confused about the process at UCLA -- I was waitlisted and thought that was the end of things, but now they are asking for references and I scheduled a Talent Plus interview...When I applied my first choice was the OR but I haven't seen much discussion about that on here. Do you think there's a chance I could actually get hired? Or are they just keeping their options open & so they want all of my info on file?! Sorry if something like this was already discussed and I missed it! Thanks in advance for any feedback!!

Looking to move to a different state, but where?
Hello all, I am new to the forums and have been very impressed with the wealth of knowledge out there for nurses! I have gotten so much wonderful advice from here just from reading questions that others have asked. Now I have a question, and since I know you're all from different states/areas, I thought maybe you could help. I live in Michigan and I am graduating at the end of April with my BSN in nursing. I am fluent in English and Spanish and looking to move somewhere warm(er) where I can also utilize my knowledge of Spanish so that I get experience with it in the healthcare field. Does anyone know of any area in particular that I should move? Anywhere that is taking new graduate nurses where there is a large Hispanic population that is also a nice area with a magnet hospital nearby? I know those are a lot of qualifications...I just don't know where to start. I've looked at California, Texas, and Florida but if I do not get a job in any of these states before I graduate, I will choose one and move there before getting a job. I don't want to stay in Michigan. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
