  1. Hello, I am trying to get info by next week from anyone who has finished their MSN with Aspen University or is currently enrolled. Have you been accepted or have you looked into what your options are for getting your FNP or other nurse practitioner post masters certificate post graduation? It looks like there are a lot of CCNE schools out there with post certificate programs. Wondering if anyone had trouble going for NP after an Aspen MSN. I do not want to do a known for profit school like Kaplan for my NP. Thank you!
  2. I am doing a case study to make up a clinical day and have been stuck on one question for hours. We have not learned IV's yet. The question is is IVF of D5 1/2 NS at 125 ml/hr appropriate for a pneumonia pt? Why or why not? It's a normally healthy 71 year old male. Thank you. :/
  3. I was going to recommend Walgreens like the other poster, but that would run you more than $500. http://takecarehealth.com/Cost_menu.aspx I didn't do titers, I just got completely revaccinated instead. My insurance paid that I know of.
  4. What do you call a nurse that got C's in college? --- "nurse" I am still waiting for junior year to start, so actual nursing classes haven't started for me yet. I have 120+ Credits in freshman and sophomore classes and a 3.67 gpa. I do not expect to make any A's in my nursing courses. A's are for super over achievers who are near experts. I've taken English, science, math, etc classes my whole life, so those college courses were a breeze to get a's and b's in. C's are an average grade, and I expect to be average in my nursing courses. All I'm saying is, a's are the exception, not the norm, once you take away grade inflation.
  5. Don't worry about all the critiquing going on here and focus on your meeting. When is it? Have you done any remediation with HIPAA review? Have you prepared your case, as in writing down what you will say when you admit fault etc? Good luck!
  6. Congrats Haley!
  7. I think most students are transfer students. Yes, you have to take religion.
  8. I'll be riding my bike when it's nice out, and I don't have to do the daycare drop off.
  9. IDL = independent distance learning? My husband took a course that way through UGA, but didn't finish it. he said it was a lot of work, and I've heard that from others as well. Good luck. =]
  10. How's everyone who's been accepted coming along on the immunizations/BLS? I have my dr. appt tomorrow to get my immunization form completed. trying to figure out this BLS. There are lots of little CPR schools that offer it, but I don't know anything about them. And I'm in IL, so I'm sort of on my own. I'll figure out a place though. Just seems like a silly amount of research for a class that's only a couple hours long.
  11. I got my letter yesterday!!!
  12. My comment was in reference to the categories in the PDF, how AD refers to RN sans bachelors. Open the PDF if you dont believe me. Its Something I didn't know when first looking into nursing schools.
  13. thanks for all your replies. I'm not sure what i will do, but i know what i want. And i don't want to invest time in a non health care job i am leaving if the alternative is a much lower paying job but a chance to get experience and meet nurses and hiring managers. it seems hard enough to get a job after graduation from what i've read, so the lower pay might make up for itself if i have an RN job sooner because of experience/networking.
  14. Any update on the employment situation in Atlanta? It seems as though lots of new grads are having issues finding jobs, but I don't know if those grads are in Atlanta or not. I start my BSN program hopefully this fall and am already stressing about if I will even have a job within six months of graduating. At least I won't be looking until summer of 2014. Maybe the situation will be better by then.
  15. If you are only looking for an RN i.e. an AD, a lot of people go to GPC. But I don't know where you live. Use this link to see a full list of schools, http://www.sos.ga.gov/plb/rn/RN School Directory.pdf (AD is just an RN, BSN is bachelors) and then you can ask questions about these schools or look through some of the threads already on this board. I wouldn't do an online degree, and I wouldn't do LPN either simply because employment in GA is competitive. But that's just me.
  16. Congrats ashlauren and tkour10!!! I'm hoping for my letter by Friday. I know they have all the paperwork to make a decision. :)
  17. The trickiest thing with both these sections is that sometimes two answers make sense. Always try to rule out the answer that you think is right. I found that doing that helped my score between practice tests. I would pick the first answer that made sense, and that doesn't work because while it might be an ok answer, there could be a better answer you aren't considering. Give all the answers a shot. Especially on identifying main points, several answers might work, but one makes the most sense. Put some extra thought into those. For vocabulary, think of words you know that are similar and an answer will jump out at you.
  18. I'm wondering if anyone is working while in the final two years of their BSN program. I've been planning for 2 years now to stop working once I'm in my junior year. This is my second career and school will be FT starting this fall. What I've heard is school is until about 4 PM Mon - Thurs. And then most students study each evening. My employer has offered for me to be part time from home through the end of nursing school and then quit when I graduate. If I do this, I would have to put in time each evening and then a full day on Fridays and at least a half day one saturday a month if not two saturdays. I am already stressed because I have three kids and a husband, we are moving right before the program starts and I really wanted to be a CNA while in school if I do work because the experience and networking will help me get a job once I graduate. The issue is that I told my husband I was offered to work part time. The wheels started churning. With what I make, nursing is going to be a paycut. So of course he would love for me to work while in school because it would cover day care for my two girls and then some. I don't think I can handle the schedule or the stress of it. I told him this, but I can tell he isn't 100% supportive when he says I can still quit. Do any of you work?
  19. This is kinda what I don't get. The TEAS makes or breaks your application, and it costs time and money to take the test. Yet so many people are not buying the $44 book (assuming it can't be found used for cheaper)? Having a lower than average score, then not getting in to school, then having a semester or year set back because you have to retake the teas, then buying the manual because it is essential, studying all over again and paying to take the test again. I gave my book away to help out a person who couldn't afford it. Would love to see a TEAS book exchange on this site. Again, the book is only $44. Such a small investment when the TEAS exam is straight from the book. Version V - ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS V) Study Manual my advice would be to retake it. My school will not let anyone in with lower than 74. I got an 86. National average is around 84.
  20. Oh and I took the teas in Chicago at a testing site. I'm moving to Atlanta this summer.
  21. Awesome! Good luck! Please come back and comment when you get your acceptance letter.I got my teas score about an hour ago! An 86. I'm happy with that. I immediately submitted my gbcon app and ordered transcripts. So just waiting for the essay info from gbcon. We might be classmates!
  22. I'm still waiting on my score. I took the test yesterday at a PSI testing center. Not sure why an official testing center would be lacking the technology of instant scoring? I'll come back and post when I get it. Hopefully tomorrow since I need the score to submit my application, and the sooner I get my application in, the better my odds are of getting accepted.
  23. I am applying as soon as my TEAS score is posted to the ATI site. I took it yesterday. What is the essay subject? I don't see any topic listed on the website or app.
  24. I took the TEAS V yesterday! So I can without a doubt say purchase the ATI materials. I purchased the study guide and the two practice exams. My advice is to do the same because the real exam is just like the practice exams. I even saw a couple repeated questions from the practice exams on the real exam. I did the first practice exam before doing any studying and found that I didn't need to study Math or Reading as I felt those scores were good enough. Science and Grammar were my problem areas. Since Science was my lowest score, I had the most opportunity to bring that score up. I studied Science for 3 days and then did the second practice test. My grade overall raised by 10%! I studied for another day and then took the first practice test again and found that the practice tests alone were enough to raise my grades in Reading, Math and Grammar (just familiarizing myself with the questions and the math practice was enough). I studied one more day and then took the test. So I only studied for 5 days or so. I don't know my grade yet, but I can say the exam is just like the ATI practice tests, and I think all but 2 questions on the Science exam came from the study guide. The book seems like a lot of material, but it is well sectioned so you can tackle it little by little (or very quickly like I did). I recently took my pre-reqs, so the study material was familiar to me. If you are rusty, I would even plan to study for 3 - 4 weeks. I think I got around an 85. Can't wait to find out!
  25. I would not take two science classes during summer unless I had nothing else going on in my life. Spring semester is double the weeks of summer, so why wouldn't you take advantage of say 2 classes during 16 weeks? Taking two classes during 8 weeks is like taking 4 classes during 16 weeks? Are you getting the point? Take 2 classes during the 16 week spring semester and then take 1 class during the 8 week semester which is going to be as much work as two classes during spring.
