  1. Thanks!! Summer orientation is on Tuesday June 26! I was actually wondering what the initial semester is like. I'm excited to start but nervous at the same time knowing that clinicals start so fast into the program. I've been trying to let it sink in now rather than be in complete shock come time to deal with a real living person.
  2. No I wasn't able to. I figured I would be able to check out apartments the same time as orientation. Do you have any advice on prepping for August?
  3. Thank you everyone for your responses! I was able to find a place that is able to do everything I need for a reasonable price. Luckily I found my immunization records that had been stashed away by my Dad. But still have to get booster shots and titers. I called the dept of health and free clinics in the area but the wait for it was wayyyy too long. I have an appointment for the end of this week to get the mmr titers, TDap booster and ppd test for a little less than $300 which seems reasonable and won't break my bank. Thank you again everyone for your advice and suggestions :)
  4. I'll try calling my pediatrician again. Maybe if I bug them enough someone will go digging for my record in storage. I'll be calling the dept of health again tomorrow too. Unfortunately I don't have insurance yet so I'll be paying out of pocket for everything.
  5. So I called my pediatrician today to try and obtain my immunization records, but they told me that they have been sent off and it would be best to contact the dept. of health for them. I tried the dept. of health and was unable to get in touch with anyone. I've left a message so I'm hoping to hear back from someone. I even called my high school and the hospital that I had my shots at as a child and they were unable to help me as well. I've called around to local clinics but they said I would have to schedule an appointment but that they didn't have any openings till the end of the year. I have till the end of June to have all the paperwork sent back to my school so I don't have the option to wait that long. I called hospitals and doctor offices but I'm looking at around $500 for everything required: TB test, antibody titers (measles, mumps, rubella & varicella), hep b vaccine, polio vaccine, TDaP and a physical. I know I've had vaccinations in the past but my parents never put them away for safe keeping. Does anyone have any advice on what to do and where to go to get all of this done for a cheaper price?
  6. GMU is a good school! I got accepted to George Washington University for their accelerated BSN program and would love to go, but after days of thinking and many many pros and cons lists, I'm leading towards Penn State. DC and NoVa are such nice areas but so expensive to live!! Maybe we can arrange for a meet and somehow arrange to see if we would be able to room together.
  7. Thank you! I'm surprised that they didn't have a set tuition specifically for this program. Tuition for Penn State is way less than George Washington University ($47,000) for this coming 2012 program!
  8. tscharf, I have been trying to find the tuition cost for PSU second degree program but isn't posted on their site. I've also called the financial aid office and they can't seem to give me an answer. How much is the current tuition for the program?
  9. Hi Tricia! I'll be looking for roommates and a place too once I make a decision on which program I want to attend. I was hoping to room with someone in the program and avoid dealing with freshman's and sophomores that would also be in the area. Just out of curiosity, where in VA are you located at the moment?
  10. evym have you heard from anyone else that got in the PSU Fall 2012 program? Curious as to who else got in.
  11. Thanks Bthechange! I actually made a day trip today to campus and was able to get an idea of what to look for as far as housing. I'll be making a final decision about GWU or PSU hopefully by the end of the weekend. Hoping to get to know others who have gotten into the program before the semester starts, if I choose GWU. In the meantime congrats everyone that got in!
  12. I'm glad to know that there are others that received their letters of acceptance emailed to them already. I've been debating on sending in my deposit. I got into Penn State Altoona's SON also. Thinking of visiting GWU this weekend to check out the area. Has anyone figured what they'll be doing about financial aid and housing for GWU?
  13. Thank you! I'll be making a quick trip to Altoona by mid May to tour the area and check out some places. I tried searching for 1bedroom apartments but no luck. I noticed in another post that someone else was also looking for 1 bedroom apartments. Do most of the apartment complexes in the area cater to students? I don't have a problem having a roommate but sometimes it becomes inconvenient to share a bathroom. How do you like the program so far?
  14. I received my admittance email last week for this upcoming fall to the program. Have been in a bit of a rut trying to figure out if I want to attend GWU or Penn State. Dancegirl you mentioned that GWU's program gives tuition back over 3 years once hired?!?! If you have additional info on this can you send it my way? You wouldn't happen to know the NCLEX pass rate for first time takers?
  15. I got in for Fall 2012. I haven't received any additional information since my acceptance letter. I have looked into housing in the area. Seems reasonably priced for off campus places and distance doesn't seem that bad either. Only downside is that you have to roommate with people. I'll be making a trip to PSU Altoona to check out places before the semester starts. That might be something you want to do if you're able to make that trip.
