Not with me! I offered to vacate our er room an sit on a stretcher in the hall so the staff could clean up the space before the victims of a rollover rolled in. We were in with my 21 month old who has two lacerations to the face and a mild concussion. At that point we were waiting for discharge. The er doc told me we could come back any time!

I posted a while ago about the awesome treatment my grandpa got on the palliative care floor before his passing. Heres another thankyou to all the nurses out there who listen to their patients and respond accordingly! I have spent more time in hospitals on a med/surg floor, icu, stepdown and ER than I have total in my life. I learned so much from observing the awesome and some awful nuses. I cant wait to start my program this winter. So thanks again nurses, I cant wait to join your ranks!

Im wondering which Cayuga, Central NY? I just took A&P2, Micro and Nutrition at the same time on campus and did well in all three. If you can dedicate your available time with minimal interuptions you can do it! Which Accelerated program are you applying to?

Who pays for your education??? You might consider an accelerated BSN program, given you hold a BA and have a some bio background. Good luck to you! Edited to add: Keep us posted, I'd love to hear where your path leads you!

Dont give up! You are passing with high marks and youve been getting good feedback in clinicals. Ask your instructor to schedule an appointment to discuss her areas of concern. Then take that information with you into next semester and do your best!

I agree! Dont short yourself those four years of life experience. One option you may want to consider is a school with a 2+2 program. The one in my area has year 1 taking liberal arts/ prereq courses, 2 years in a hospital based ADN program (you are eligible to sit for the NCLEX at the end so you can work your final year) then a final year in the classroom finishing up those liberal arts/ electives. Also remember that a significanlty higher rate of pay could very well mean a significantly higher cost of living. Research the cost of rent, gas etc. in the area of your prospected job compared to your current location.

What are your long term goals? Do you dream of OR nursing in a different capacity than what is currently available? Do you want a low stress job or an high stress adreniline rush? Pay check aside, what kind of hours will work for your family? The hospital hours or a regular, set schedule? Which position are you drawn to? What about the commute? They are really different positions, let us know what you decide!

Are they saying you are not making academic progress because you aren't matriculated?

Have you ever worked with a speech therapist as an adult? Many children receive speech therapy services in schools, but arent able to follow up as adults or after they test out. If you are a nurse now and work in a hospital, maybe you could consult with the hospital based speech language pathologist. If not talk to your physician about your concerns and how you feel the differences in your brain are holding you back.

Talk to the schools you are looking at for the accelerated program. Ask them if they will allow you to transfer in nursing credits from the institution you have been accepted to. That the only way to get an accurate answer.

My grandpa passed away this evening at a hospital. He had been experiencing difficulties with his liver until a few weeks ago, when it stopped working all together. The care he recieved from the nurses on his unit were kind and considerate. The attended not only to his needs, but made sure his family surrounding him were comfortable as well. I doubt Ill ever see those nurses again, so I just wanted to say thank you to all of the nurses out there who take their time and show honor and respect to their patients. You DO make a difference.

Yay you! I have similar experience and stepped away to have a batch of kids (4) and a whole different career! I finish my prereqs June 30 and have been accepted to a program that focuses on just nursing, all liberal arts classes must be finished prior. Taking those first steps of committing to my future as an RN and enrolling in night classes was so scary and so fun!!! You can do it! You will do it! You will find job!

Why not get hitched, work on your prereqs where ever you are going to be for the next few years and apply to the school you will be near when he makes his next career transition, or even a school in where you move too and one 'back home.' Let us know what you decide!

I agree with the above! I got decent grades in HS but really did poorly my first 2 semesters of college (totally unrelated to nursing). The school I applied to suggested that any low grades could be explained in your personal statement. I explained that my first year of college was a highly unstable period of my life and explained why with full honesty. I then pointed out how that it was only 2 semesters and all other semesters college my grades have been much better and I feel that this period of work best represents my true ability. Good Luck!

Micro and chem are two different animals. Think of micro as A&P through a microscope and Chem as its evil distant relative! I love my prof, Im taking micro in an 8 week accelerated course right now. If you could pull through A&P and CHem, you can get through micro!

Most counties in my state have a childcare licensure program, here it called the childcare council. They were able to help me locate certified in home daycares (ALWAYS INTERVIEW CAREFULLY) that are more flexible and less expensive than childcare centers. Maybe your state/ county has a similar program.

I would highly recommend looking into programs in your area that offer night or weeknd options, they do exist! Sit down with an advisor or research the prereqs to see which courses you can get out of the way online or at evening classes, if you have a degree or have taken classes already some may count toward your ADN. Some colleges offer a planned extension so you can spread your course work out. The weekend program I start in January is every other weekend, no vacations no summers off for 2 calendar years. I agree! Meet with a nursing program advisor to find out what you need to do to better your chances of acceptance. I found out what classes I needed by referring to the website of the colleges I was considering. The specificly list requirements before consideration for the program. I applied for off hour programs (night and weekend) and needed Nutrition, Intro to Psych, Intro to Sociology, Life Span Psych, Biology, Microbiology, A&P 1 and 2, English (writing), Chemistry, Algebra- the last two counted at the highschool level. We are not all that guy! I have an AAS and a BA, both with honors. I liked my job but wanted something different. I was a CNA and HHA in my late teens. It wasnt until I was called upon by my family to help out with a family member that I remembered how much I loved the interaction. It took a year of consideration before I made the huge leap into the prereqs! I am so happy to say I got accepted to the program of my choice, I got 1 of 60 seats out of a field of 1000 applicants. I have no clouds over my eyes. I know that I will be peed on, puked on, pooped on, spat on, bled on at some point in my career. I know I will deal with rude, angry people. I also know that I will be able to ease pain, draw out a smile, and I will be thanked by someone. My interviewer told me my essay was phenomenal and that my answers to her questions were excellent. I know that the 2 years I am in school (I am pursuing an ADN an will pursue a BSN following) will be among the most intense of my life and I cant wait!!! Also, I think every pre nursing student should be required to read the gross and disgusting stories thread on allnurses.com I have discovered my dry heave button can be pushed by people consuming bodily substances!!! I hope I have instructors who with be patient enough to tell me when my expectations are skewed and help me to develop realistic ones!

I applied to a night and weekend programs, I HAVE to work while in school. The schools I applied require that you have a specific number of prereqs completed before the start of the program to make things less stressful while Im taking the nursing specific courses. I only have one left after this semester (Im registered to take it this summer), and then Im off until nursing school starts in December!

Sure! I have a 3.5 from the community college I got my initial AS from, and where Im taking my prereqs (all As so far). I also earned a BA in another field and graduated with a 3.6. The school I was accepted to does not use the NLN or Teas, I will have to take a critical thinking exam before the start of the semester. I was waitlisted at another school, so Im thrilled I got in to my first choice.
