I think it would be a good idea if we pass out flyers to every community and let them know the nurse patient ratio of hospitals in the area and how it might cause problems to them that way they will be the ones to clamor :balloons: for institution of a safe nurse patient ratio and hospitals will get the idea if these patients shun them to those that have good nurse:patient ratios. :chuckle

Well i just read on the news that for the December 2005 Philippine nursing boards there were around 400 people who are 2nd coursers of assorted degrees such as MD's, Dentists, PT's, accountants have their results pending meaning they do not know whether they have passed or failed and the reason given was the Philippine Board of Nursing are still checking on their RLE or related learning Experience records and according to the news have found out that these 400 who incidentally graduated just October 2005 from a 1 1/2 year BSN abbreviated course came from one certain school in the Western Visayas and were able to have as much as more than units of RLE per semester as allowed and even have simultaneous RLE which could not happen since each is a prerequisite to another and which is very impossible to finish on the time frame and these has been always an issue with the 2nd coursers. Frankly, in my opinion as long as if they feel they have nothing to hide and have abide with the graduation rules as to the RLE's then they just have to wait for the BON results. The BON is just safeguarding the public as to the competency of the new nurses and also safeguarding the reputation of the Philippine nurses who are abroad since any hint of scandal could also backfire on the credibility of the BON and on these nurses.

I know I could count on you !!! there's just some things that keeps bugging me like what will happen to my green card status if in case i dont finish my two 2 year contract with the hospital facility? can immigration take back my green card and deport me home? or can another facility take me instead? will I be out of status? i'm now here in texas!!! Suzanne, i hope you can give an insight on my problem. i will be leaving this jan 2006 for;New Mexico and am not entirely happy with my contract. I signed with an agency;a contract 3 years ago here in Manila and for a signed bonus of $12,000 spread for 2 years ..now that i have my visa they ask me to sign the contract which is for 3 years and the bonus is down to $6,000. the nurse patient ratio is 1:8 which are all high risk and post- surgical patients;I am also going to be assigned in an area which is also not my expertise.I just;want to know if i have option to buy out my contract for just $10,000 especially since;I was the one who paid for most of my exams such as CGFNS, TSE, Visascreen and medical exams. and what are its implications if ever.. like can they cancel my petition if i work in another facility even after paying them? will that have an effect on my green card especially since it was addressed to them;Is that legal... the 1:8 nurse ratio? are there any legal remedies available to me;I will be very grateful if you can reply to this soonest thanks in advance!!!

Well I was interviewed by a 30 something white female and she was very accomodating and asked pertinent questions such as what hospital i am going to be assigned in the state, whether reciprocity was already filed, the job offer, cgfns and nclex license and whether i am currently working and for how long, she did asked me like my work area and even tested me on how would i react or do in case a person is having a heart attack since i am an ICU nurse. well i guess she was impressed because she issued visas for me and my family in just 5 working days. Good luck to all you kabayans on your consular interview!!!

Well just to let you know that i am a victim of those agencies here in manila. all their promises were ...well promises! like payment for all those exams needed and fees for INS filing... well it took them 3 years! I was even the one who shouldered the CGFNS, TSE, Visascreesn, Medical Exam, etc just to move my papers. there was no facility waiting for me and to top it off when they finally found one it was a hospital border to mexico and guess! 1:8 nurse-patient ratio all high risk and surgical patients! My advise is for you to scrutinize all the fine details and better get those who hire directly and not some staffing agency, better yet consult an immigration lawyer to protect you from these unscrupulous agencies. Well i wonder if the local government knows this shenanigans?

There was this patient who transferred from the ICU and was always asking everyone to scratch her head. the watcher told us nurses don't! because she has always been like that for ages and its part of her schizoid illness..... by the way she is in bilateral upper restraints and well.... i always oblige the patient much to the chagrin of the watcher but never looking clearly on her hair.. so what happened was because of wrong assessment a psychiatrist was called in and who likewise examined the pt only to find out several days later when the watcher herself is also seen scratching her head that the patient is not hallucinating but is infested by lice and nits!!!!.... :

Hello! my name is anna and i'd like to share some advise on whether you'll take up nursing ... It depends on what your strength is.. like.... do you really love to interact with people, take care of them including lifting, turning changing soiled linens and diapers esp if they are bedridden? Do you like to guide and encourage? if yes, by all means do go on because that is what nursing is all about. But if you are just motivated only by the pay and the so called benefits then i know in the long run you will just get bored and wished for something else. So just try to keep these in mind and go first to a hospital and observe the nurses while they go about their job it will be an eyeopener!!!.
