hi itsinmy since most didactics are online (tuition includes online access to books) they give us tons of workload, i had classmates which are LVN's and the program is 2 1/2 yrs now (it was only 2 yrs before) tuition is cheap i think less than 25k? you get a BSN at the end...They also have a high NCLEX passing rate...labs are done north side (L.A. part) and we had our clinicals at Huntington Memorial Hospital (great clinical instructors and RN coaches) other cohort goes to Cedars Sinai and some at Fountain Valley (all up north)..there were only 10 of us in our cohort so lots of hands-on practice during labs (max. 2 students per sim man)..simulation exams for each student per course were nerve wrecking but until now, i remember the process of each nursing skill LoL...they made us order lab kits (i.v. bags, gloves, needles, etc.) so we can practice at home. :-)

hi NurseMorse i was a former WGU student but driving 2hrs or more most times took a toll in my health....love the program though but too far from me...now i'm trying to get back here in SD area and just endure the waiting game again :-) thanks for your encouragement i really appreciate it. i'm a current prelicensure student and 6 months additional is ok for my entire cohort, it's still affordable compared to other BSN schools that will cost $40-70K. Schools will always change based on what the earlier students' progresses are. The prelicensure being 2 yrs or 2 1/2 yrs is really intense. Me and my cohort mates share episodes of crying sometimes but we strive to make it work. :-)

my science gpa was 3.4 and my teas was only 75, my cohort started last March and i'll have my clinical interview tomorrow. Our clinical will start on Sept. and i'm currently finishing with Pharmacology. So far i like it, yeah it can be disorganised sometimes on clinical schedules but that's normal. It's actually not the school's fault at times 'coz they can't do anything if the hospital suddenly turns them down and the clock is ticking (based on my experience from a diff. nursing prog.) as long as the school pushes through, we should be alright.

A counselor interviewed me today and talked about the program. WGU change the nursing program to 2 1/2 years...the first 6 months will all be didactics, but we need to go to a mandatory clinical bootcamp for 2 weekends w/c will all be CNA clinical skills, after that they will test us. Then after 6 months, it's mostly gonna be clinical for the rest of the 2 years. I feel excited but I might change my job to part time or perdiem after 6 months. =)

thank you everyone for all of the replies. I'm aiming for the Oct cohort at Fountain Valley Reg. Hosp. (i hope i get accepted) Last week my enrollment counselor told me that the director of nursing is adding another prerequisite, anything about Lifespan and Development Psychology. I only have general psych. so this worries me since i only have a month left. They told me that they will see if I still need it before the cohort starts or i can take it while in the prog. This worries me a lot now. By the way, my enrollment counselor told me that the color of the scrub uniform depends on what hospital you'll get into. In their website i always see their students wearing blue scrub tops and white scrub pants. Is it true that it depends on the hospital? or is it white and blue? (just curious :)) Thanks!

Hi careopag, all i know is we have to finish all prereqs before applying for the next cohort, i'm taking biochem right now and i hope this is the last prereq that i need. how many do you still need to take? for the next cohort, i'm not sure when is the next one. I can ask them if you like. so far, they started a Jan. then Oct.

mxmestiza I just applied to WGU last week, I'm already in a nursing program right now and I decided to transfer. They told me the next cohort is on Oct. I still need to take Biochem since it's been 10 yrs (i think) since the time i took it in highschool haha! When are you planning on applying? (their program is better than what my current traditional school is offering)

I know WGU, i was considering it before but since I'm here in San Diego i thougth going to L.A. for cliniclas would kill me. I did my research about WGU and here's what I got so far: 1. CCNE accredited 2. G.I. Bill eligible/VA eligible 3. Regionally and "nationally" accredited 4. Multiple clinical locations (the nearest one from SD is Riverside and Los Alamitos) 5. Kinnda cheap but you pay for uniforms, etc. so it's about the same with my current school. Here's what my current school is like: 1. "New" 2. regionally accredited 3. Not yet CCNE accredited 4. Messed up clinical instructors (either absent or late) 5. Messed up theory instructor (just reads the slides) --> this is traditional classroom, offering it online is better. --> Comparing my current nursing school with WGU....WGU got more accreditations...double workload since they're giving student the opportunity to stay at home BUT not slack off....the only problem is..if I were to transfer to WGU I have to retake TEAS (i took Ver4, and they need Ver.5) and have all my transcripts, etc evaluated again...I'm still confused whether to transfer or not because yeah I'm gonna look like i'm starting from scratch again.... Some of my classmates are willing to carpool going to WGU's clinicals..that's how messed up our instructors are right now....we pay them to teach us and not to read the slides for us (crap! we know how to read) they can drown us with their higher degrees and certifications but still they can;t TEACH....a lot of us got non-medical background and our instructor assume we know everything....we read our asses off but still no good....*sigh Any inputs? transfer or not?

My school is barely new, nope we don't use ATI for now, but i'll try that, thanks a lot! Also, thanks to all who replied, yeah i lack on critical thinking, i need to focus on the rationale in each questions and from there i hope i develop my thinking skills because i'm so gonna need that big time. My hubby started to practice me by asking me a question or saying a word from the book and i have to explain it in my own words. *whew! a lot of hard work but it's all worth it!! :)

I'm so excited to get into the program, i had all my books ready and now i'm starting to buy items i'll be using during the clinicals. I know fundamentals is common sense but here's our dilemma....our quizzes....we read 4-5 chapters and our quiz questions only have 15....believe me when i say that i use my "common sense" while answering the quiz but for some reason i keep picking the wrong answer! the passing is 75% so that's 12 points...i got 6 on the 1st quiz, 7 on the 2nd, and 8 on the 3rd (yeah its progressing but bot as much as to give me at least a "C")...i still have 7 more quizzes to go....and i'm starting to stress...i use my textbooks, i use the cd, i use the online practice, and i even use 2 more books but i just can't pick the right answer....by the way i work full time so i can't read for the first 8 hrs. on weekdays.... Can anybody recommend the best pocket guide for clinicals? Anybody give me some advice please...i really do need it....
