  1. I have an exam on a fetal pig in the morning... I studied for about four hours earlier today hahaha... my A&P II final is on Monday, I should probably start studying tomorrow hahaha... my online micro, I will not be studying for!!! So OVER this semester! All I have left is this week and then Monday... WOOO HOOOO!! Then I get to transfer to my dream school next semester... Yay!!! Good job to all of us for hanging in there for yet another semester!!! Now time for a small little break to rest my incredibly way-too-full brain!!!
  2. I am taking A&P II- getting a really strong A; Chemistry (just the lab)- getting a high A; Prealgebra (blah!!)- getting a high B; an online Phy Ed class (he he he!!) which I love and am getting 100% in; and Microbiology I am getting a low A in (thanks to the lab)! I love, love, love, A&P II and very much dislike microbiology!! Oh, did I mention that Microbiology is online??! I study so much, take good notes, do the fill-in-the-blanks study guide, participate in the chapter discussions... I always feel like I am understanding the material but never do better than 80% on the tests. Mostly, my tests are in the 70 percentages. So heartbreaking and discouraging. I hate to be "that" student that blames it on the teacher, but I kind of do! What are some things that I could do to help me study? The test questions are all multiple choice but they are all applied questions, coming way out of left field, as far as I'm concerned! So difficult! I never consecutively recieve less than A's on exams. But YAY!!! Over halfway through the semester!!! Next semester I'll be finishing up my AA degree and taking 17 credits of much less interesting classes... yikes!! :)
  3. Oops!!! Meant to post this in pre-nursing student section!! Sorry!
  4. So right now I am finishing up my AA degree and plan to transfer to a university. This fall is my last semester of classes that I need for my AA. I was going to stay at the CC that I'm at and get my LPN, then apply and wait to get accepted to the RN program... I just recently realized that I can go to a university and it will take me 2 and 1/2 years total and I'll have my BSN!! So... I have been calling the university and emailed three different people there... absolutely no reply to my voicemails or my emails. So frustrated. All I wanted to know was how many credits minimum through the university would put me as a U student rather than a transfer student. That's it. I know they only let 40 students into the nursing program each semester (fall and spring) and only a fraction of them are transfer students. So I figured that I might have a better shot at getting in if I am a U student... know what I mean? Anyways, I had an appointment with the transfer counselor at my current CC and she acted as if I was completely wasting her time because I was trying to get help figuring out what classes I have left to take. I'm so frustrated. Why won't they call me back or email me back??? Gosh!!! I just want to be in nursing school already I thought counselors and advisors and registration workers were supposed to "help" students... Thanks for listening/reading.
  5. Thank you very much for this!! I will be saving this under my favorites and refering back to it frequently!!! Thanks for sharing... and easing my worries!!
  6. My aunt works there as a CNA and she does float and usually works doubles. She absolutely loves it! It took her a long time to get in there and finally did because she found someone that she knew through someone else and listed them on her application. That seems to be how you have to get your foot in the door, you have to know someone. Not always, I'm sure, but I'm sure it helps!
  7. For some reason, it didn't occur to me that it would look silly if I just started volunteering right before I apply. Thanks for the insight. Yes, I will focus on getting A's! Thank you
  8. Oh wow. You just summed up how I feel. I had a minor breakdown about it last night. I told my husband that if I don't make it into the program that I REALLY, REALLY want to get into the first time, we are moving to anywhere in the country that will have me! All the while, tears in my eyes. I just want to be done already!!! But then after some deep breathes, I realized that if I don't get in right away, and I have to go get a CNA job for a semester, that will be fine. I really want to go to this school and I guess I can wait ONE MORE SEMESTER. I always say that I wish I would have gone to school when I was 18 and I would be doing what I love by now. but, that's now the way it worked out and I for sure would not be as dedicated or be getting these good grades back then. If nursing is what you love, than waiting a little bit longer is just fine. We get to spend the rest of our lives doing our dream jobs so what's another few years?! -Hope that helps! It helps me to tell myself these things (on a daily basis) lol!! good luck, you can do it! :)
  9. I intend on applying to my school that I would just LOVE to go to... deadline is June 1st. I have all the pre-req's done and the lowest grade that I have is a B. That doesn't necessarily set me above the rest of the applicants. The overall average GPA for students admitted into the program is a 3.42 +/- .13. Right now I am at 3.8 and I hope to get all A's (of course) this semester and next. So... question is: should I go find a volunteer position at the hospital or the nursing home to get that extra edge? I'm sure someone out there will have experience similar to my situation! Please?! I have called the pre-nursing advisor and am waiting to hear back from him. Any opinions welcome! -I should probably say that of course volunteering will help my application but since I spend majority of my time studying and taking care of my family and my house, will it be so much worth it to take time away from my already busy life? Thank you!!
  10. I actually feel more engaged this semester in A&P II... I got a B+ last semester and I just know that I was capable of an A! So I have put forth more effort this semester so far and you can tell by the grades I have been receiving! Next semester however, I will be taking "boring" classes such as statistics, comp II, a geography class, and two others to be determined... I have no clue how I am going to focused for those classes... sigh. Good luck finding your groove again!!
  11. this is what I copy and pasted from my school's (well my future school that I will be transferring to) website: The minimum GPA requirement is 2.75, which applies to both cumulative and prerequisite GPA. Because the admissions process is highly competitive, the GPA of the admitted class of students tends to be higher than 2.75. The overall average GPA for students admitted into the program is a 3.42 +/- .13. The GPA range of students admitted into the program is between 2.99-4.0. Hope this helps!
  12. Thanks everybody!! I have totally changed my feelings! I study very hard and I have been doing VERY well in all of my classes :) I guess I am a "smarty" too!!
  13. Can I vent for a second too?? Since my husband is the only one that always has to listen to me about it lol... this girl that is in my A&P II lecture, A&P II lab, Microbiology lecture and Microbiology lab, (and sits next to me in all of them! -so is my partner in both labs!) never studies, complains about getting homework, calls both of the teachers horrible, cruel names because she got a bad grade or failed the test, misses class and then puts her name on OUR lab work that I did ALL the work on, texts and mumbles under her breath the whole time in lecture. SO ANNOYING!! I study very hard, I have 2 babies, ages 2 and 9 months and a husband. She always complains that I have so much more study time then she does... excuse me??? She is 20 years old, lives at home, doesn't have a job. We had a test in A&P II yesterday, she didn't study because, "it doesn't help anyways" it's like, WAKE UP!!!! She got a D in A&P I last semester so she has to retake it, you would think she would try harder this semester!! Sorry, had to vent. I know how annoying it is to have these type of people around you. I take comfort in the fact that I am transferring to a four year college and the program is very intensely competetive, everyone that is there will have worked their butts off to get there! (just like me!) -oh, and did I mention that this girl says, "I'M NOT STUDYING ON THE WEEKENDS!!!" when the teacher says good luck on your studies on a Friday??!! Gosh!!! thanks for sharing your vent, I just had to share mine before I take it out on her at school...
  14. Hello!! First post ever! (So excited about it ). So I am usually an A student although last semester I finished A&P I with a B+ and was dissapointed in myself about it but considering that by the end of the semester, 70% of the class withdrew or just didn't pass the class, I felt fortunate that my hard work paid off. So here I am in A&P II, surrounded by all the people that made it through which for the first time makes me feel quite intimidated. May sound strange or selfish but it's such a weird feeling. I'm sure someone can relate?? We haven't taken a test yet or anything but I feel like the wind has been sucked out of my sails for some reason. Almost discouraging, or feeling inadequate. I don't know. I just love this website and wanted to share my story hoping for someone to tell me to buck up and stop feeling less than! Thanks all!!!
