My fellow nurses i need advice. I read most of the forum. Thanks for the advice and the encouragment. I have accepted ICU job offer which i am excited about. I have a year experiance in med/surg but i have been out of hospital for almost 2 years. I was working for home health agency. Since i haven't used most of my skills for the past 2 years, i feel overwhelmed. Any advice on what book to read or review. My orientation starts in 3 weeks. As a preceptor or experianced RN, What are your expectations? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

I agree with you Blackcat99. I think the problem is we don't have union in FL to bargain our wages and most agencys feel like they can offer us whatever they think is competitive (in this case $12).

I used to live in fort myers which is 30 min away from Naples and worked in both places. When i was there i worked in med/surg unit and private duty. I moved 7 month ago to miami because my assignment ended with the agency. I have been unemployed since then. The market is bad . I have 5 years nursing experiance. The last 3 years as RN. I have been hired by a lot of agencys who don't have work for me. The salery, I was getting paied $24 plus $6 shift diff in the hospital and private duty $ 25/hr. You do have a lot of experiance than me. But do your homework before you move if your are planning to move. Good luck.

What is the point of going to school then if they pay $14? Thank God i don't live in CA.

I don't have HHA and live in florida. If you look at the first page, there are some nurses who have info on HHA.

i am trying to make a decision if it is easier to start assisted living facility or adult day care. if it is adult day care they don't have to be their 24/7 which makes it easier in a lot of ways. you can check out this website. it is checklist for adult day care center which is similar to the assisted living. good luck www.fdhc.state.fl.us/mchq/long...care/.../adcc_application_checklist.pdf

Hi. I am interested in opening up small assisted living facility but i don't know where to start. I have been trying to get some info from AHCA (agency for health care administration). Information i found so far -There is no provider within 1000feet of the house that i am using for the buizness - I need to take assisted living administrative training. - I can open it under standard licence (providing basic care). -I can open it under spciality license( which alows them to stay in their current living invironment, if they have medical condition. - Need to contact the department of health for food service and hygien permit Any one who knows where to get funding and additional information. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

kyasi, you know how much they pay for school RN here in miami $15/hr and they might give you more than one patient. I think your offer is decent $22/hr. I am so giving up hope whith this agencys. I am thinking about posting an advertizment on craigslist as independent private duity nurse. Also my boyfriend has a house in miami 5 bedroom and 3 bath and it hasn't been rented for 2 month now and am thinking opening up small ALF. maybe 5 residents. I have been trying to find out info with AHCA if the house is in approved zoning area, licensing and requirements. Anyone who has info on this subject.

I just talk to a friend of mine and she told me she was offered a job with this agency and guss how much they pay? 12/hr and she is an RN with lots of experiance. I could't belive it. I don't know what is wrong with these agencys. Thanks for your advice caliotter3.

Hi everyone, i am so glad i joined this site. I tought i was the only one who felt the recruiter was my boss. This is my story. I have been a nurse since 2005. the last 3 years as an RN. My assignment with this agency ended 06/2010 and i have been unemployed since then. I have been looking for a job everywhere ( hospital, home care etc). I was hired by lots of agncys who don't have work for me. Finally I was hired by this agency. They said they have a case for me but they pay $18/hr. So I asked the recruiter to ask the manager if they can raise my salery and he said no. He said madicaid doesn't pay so they can't raise my salery. I declined the job since it is 33% less than what i used to make. I enjoied working as home health nurse but it doesn't pay in miami. I have been having a second thought after i declined the job, maybe i should take it because times are hard and i don't know if i am going to get another job offer and am giving up hope. Any advice from my fellow nurses. anybody knows home care or private duity agency that is hireing in miami. If i start with $18/hr will my next job salery be based on that?
