I had interviewed with Mount Sinai last week for a Per Diem position. Anyone know how long it takes for them to call back? Do they let you know even if you don't get the job. It would be nice to get a call even telling me I didn't get the job. I even emailed the nurse recruiter (hoping he replies back) I really hope I get it because it's one of my dream hospitals. I've been praying really hard. Also, do you think it's a good idea to apply to other positions in Mount Sinai while waiting to hear back? I'm afraid to apply and recruiters will think I'm not interested in the Per Diem position. Your opinions will be greatly appreciated :)

Has anyone worked on Mount Sinai's telemetry/vascular unit? If so, can you tell me what it's like. I know most telemetry floors in any hospital can be hectic, but how about Mount Sinai's?

I need help too. I want a job in the city. I'm a fairly new nurse. I have a year and half experience with med-surg here in Jersey with an Associates Degree. I'm currently attending a RN to BSN online program, and hopefully will be done by 2014. I have my NY RN license. Been applying for several hospitals in the city with no luck! I did get a call from Mount Sinai but I was not home! They left a message on my voicemail, I called them back & didn't get an answer or call back. Right now I feel like I should just give up. I see new grads with BSN's getting hired with no experience. I can't even get an interview cause I don't have BSN attached to the end of my name. Unfortunately that's the world we live in, life is not fair. But I'm still thankful to have a job here in Jersey :)

I'm desperate for a part time or per diem job in NYC but my resume isn't so impressive like yours. I only have 1 year experience as an RN, Med-Surg with telemetry experience, BLS, Associates (currently enrolled in an online BSN course).... I'm planning to keep my current job here in NJ. I just need a second job to help pay my bills and my parents' bills (which I'm helping them with). I also don't want to put my NYS RN license to waste. I'm looking for something "lighter" than floor nursing. My current job on Med-Surg is really stressful sometimes even though I work night shift. I want something like an office job in NYC, an ambulatory care setting. Something where patients just come and go. A 9 to 5 type of job. I saw some positions on Craigslist and applied but to some clinics but haven't heard anything back. I'm patiently waiting. Anyone know of any clinics in NYC or even nursing homes?

I work for a hospital that accepts inmates. We usually get the fed inmates on the regular floors and state/county inmates have their own locked down correctional unit. I hate getting pulled to the correctional unit. The patients are not the problem but the staff especially the CO's! I hate when they tell me what to do. And I feel like I'm bothering them when asking to open doors. I don't have any freedom! I don't have any problem with the feds on the regular floors cause we can just walk in and out. And the fed inmates are more nice and seem more grateful (to me at least). One minor problem is (but I can tolerate) sometimes the guards tend to flirt with me. Does anyone else get that? I mean I have to admit, some of them are cute and can't resist. haha

Hey nurses, I'm a new grad nurse. Been working for about 9 months now in a NJ hospital. I applied for my NY license, but it seems to be taking forever. I submitted everything, they received it but they haven't processed everything yet. They have to verify my education. Apparently they are backlogged so now I have to wait longer. I'm content with my current job, working 7p-7a, and I like the people I work with. The salary is just ok, but it certainly isn't enough for me. It could be better. I don't feel like waiting for my NY license. I know eventually it will come, but I just can't wait. I was thinking while waiting I could get a per diem job as a unit secretary at a NYC hospital or something. Or even a patient care tech (I used to be one before becoming an RN). I need extra cash. My question is...can I still work in a hospital in NYC as a secretary, tech, etc. while I have my RN license here in Jersey?

Hey guys, I'm a new grad currently working on a busy med-surg floor. We are a 24 bed unit. Sometimes the ratio is 1:8. Having 8 patients a few weeks ago was traumatic! As a new grad, I was completely overwhelmed and I felt like crying. I survived though! :) I just thought it was so unsafe! My question is, anyone know if any hospital in New Jersey that has a nurse to patient ratio less than 1:6. I need to find a hospital where I know management and staffing care for the nurses and don't overwork them.

I'm a new grad nurse currently working on a med/surg unit. I am on my 3rd month of working. Every time I go home, I always have work on my mind! It drives me insane. I always think "did I do this?", "did I do that?", "oh crap! I forgot to tell nurse sally about this on report!" Is this normal for new grad nurses? Sometimes I'll wake up knowing that I did forget to do something on my shift and my heart will start racing. When my phone rings and I see the hospital's number on the caller id, I always think "Omg omg omg! I hope I didn't do anything wrong"

are there any hospitals or at least LTC's that hire AS RN's??? the hospital that i just got hired in here in jersey does not pay that much, but i'm just thankful to actually get the job so i took it! but i would also like to make extra by working in nyc as well. I actually plan to start applying after my 6 months or 1 year experience. I know most hospitals there want BSN's with experience, but do you think at least the LTC's in NYC area (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn) will hire associate RN's??? I have a bunch of friends and my mom's friends that work in some hospitals and LTC's so I kind of hope that will help also.

a little off topic but you know what i don't like??? when new grad nurses who were students a few months ago treating student nurses badly. i don't get it!

congrats! i felt the same way after i took my exam. i actually cried on the car ride home. i cried for two days before going to pearson to view my results. i also cried when i found out i passed! haha the week was all about crying basically. tears of joy, tears of stress, tears of everything! haha

does anyone know how much it costs to apply for reciprocity in NY? I just recently passed my boards in jersey and would like to be able to work in NYC as well.

can i call the bon to get my license number right now? or do i have to wait a certain amount of time before they can give it to me over the phone?

Thank you for the reply! Did I hear you right? You said you don't need fingerprinting to get ATT?! Cause I actually had my graduation on Friday and my school said they would send my letter of completion yesterday (Monday). So I can schedule/register/pay for NCLEX w/o the fingerprinting?

I have a question. So I just submitted my application for licensure along with the $200, passport photo, etc. Now I'm just waiting for them to send me the stuff for fingerprinting and my school to send the boards my letter of completion. My question(s) is..how long does it take for them to send fingerprinting info? Do they usually wait to get the letter of completion? And was I suppose to do anything on pearsonvue to register or was sending the application just enough?

My instructor told me when chest pain is involved, you always want to deal with the pain first. even if the pt states c/p of 1 out of 10. you wanna give morphine or nitro. oh and with MI...remember MONA... Morphine, Oxygen, Nitro, Aspirin....

I find that night shift nurses seem to get along better and work more like a team. maybe it's just at the hospital i work at or is it the same in a lot of other places? I currently work as an aid working on night shift. i'm in nursing school. and when i graduate i plan to work night shifts as an RN. maybe not forever, but to build up my organization and time management. and i just like how its peaceful on the floor. i love the time when its time to hit the hallway light switch and turn em off hahaha

how is the nursing job market right now for NEW GRADS in NYC?

Hello everyone :) I am currently in my last semester of nursing school (2 year program, planning to pursue my BSN after graduating). I think when I graduate, I might have a job guaranteed for me at the hospital I currently work at (I am a CNA right now) and I have a family member who can help me. I plan to get a license here in New Jersey, but I also want to work per diem in NYC, preferrably in a nursing home. Anyone know of any good nursing homes in NYC? And how is the job market there for new grads? How about hospitals? And btw since I plan to get a NJ license, how does the process of reciprocity go? My cousin has a NJ license and he current is applying to work in NY as well. He was telling me that you need to show that you're applying to an NY hospital/LTC and then they will give you a temporary license till they officially give you the real license.

Thanks guys! Now it all makes sense. I'm a nursing student. My patient today was in SVT and had a pulse. The nurses and doctor cardioverted him with a single shock and went back into NSR. So let me get this straight.... Cardioversion are for people with tachy rhythms WITH pulses to try to get them into NSR. and Defib is for patients who are pulse-less with a lethal rhythm?
