Que. adult neglect
Have a question and need some advice. I have a friend that is working in a psychiatric facility. She has been complaining to me about her facility's DON and other mgmt. staff. She states that the facility is so dirty, residents sitting in dirty briefs for several hrs, floors filthy c/ urine, roaches in her med cart, nurses yelling at residents. The cleaning supplies are locked up and she can't clean up a mess when it happens. She wants to say something but is afraid that her job will be in jeopardy. I suggested that she document what she see's and contact her State agency responsible for nursing homes. Can she do that discreetly/ anonymously..? Pls advise. Thanks!!

Help! Confused at 50!
Hello Fellow Nurses, I'm needing some career advice. I've been an LPN for almost 2 yrs. Enjoy my work. I'm in my late 40's, Have 15-20 more yrs to work. I've worked in LTC, now in psych. nursing & acute care. Am needing to decide if I really want to earn the RN or to use the MBA that I earned 8 years ago but have not used. I am good with numbers and dealing with people. However I haven't really used my MBA since getting it in '04.I am a good nurse but nursing is not my natural passion, business is. I've read on this site that LTC administrator jobs are hard to find and that it's not a good job(never able to please your boss) and to stick with nursing. I've experienced a lot of layoff's and enjoy the stability of nursing which administrator/tive positions may not have. The 2 options i see are for me to get my RN and go into travel nursing or to not earn the RN but try to find an MBA healthcare position. Does anybody have any advice for me.? I know this is a disjointed post but would appreciate some honest feedback. I'm preparing for the LPN to RN program and I don't feel the excitement that I should be feeling. I'm practically 50, should i stick with a field that is "safe" or use myMBA.

Need career advice
I'm a LPN with 18 mo's of experience, age late 40's.. Have a wife & 3 young kids. Have worked as charge nurse for 15 mo's in ltc setting & 3 mo's as PDN ped's. I need to research and determine what nursing career path to take. I will be starting a LPN to RN bridge program next yr. I've read nursing blogs on Travel nursing, Nurse anesthetists, APRN, and Nurse practitioners. I need to earn more than $20-22/hour as an RN in the local not for profit hospital. I have extensive experience c/ heart babies (I have one). Would like to work in PICU/NICU. Need to shadow in that environment. I would really appreciate any feedback!!

Cursing in LTC
Thank you Viva for the information on the context. She is a good nurse. I believe she had a knee jerk slip of the tongue. From her account, she was verbally threatened and may have been caught off guard. Thank you for the advice!!

Cursing in LTC
My friend works in Ks and I'm not familiar with what their State Nursing Home agency discipline guidelines are. Is it likely she will she lose her license, get some type of discipline..?

Cursing in LTC
Have a question. Have a friend that's just been suspended pending investigation because she responded to a residents cursing and repeated the curse back once. Other residents heard it and she has been suspended for next several days. My question is what will happen to her? Will she lose her license over this? Is it likely she'll lose her job. She is really distraught over this. She has been on the receiving end of many, many curse words and she repeats one and she is history..?

new LPN losing confidence, feeling burnt out after 3 months
Give yourself a chance to learn, try to relax (easy to say, I know) I've been working as LPN for 1 1/2 yrs. It will get much more manageable.

Are there any Pratt CC LPN-RN students here?
I am trying to get into the Hybrid LPN-RN program for Summer '12. They have not told me whether I've made it or not. Classes start 5/21/12. I don't think I've made the cut. Could some of you tell me what you made on TEAS and your pre-req course grades to get in? I wou;d really appreciate it. It is frustrating when the admissions dept can't /won't tell you anything. Thank You!!
