I used NSO while I was in school but I let it lapse and have had hard time getting anyone on the phone there to talk to about my situation since I'm not looking to do the conventional brick and mortar office I'm looking to do private pay house calls.. Like they did back in the old days... Thoughts on how to find the write policy for that? Tks

In Mass I work for a company that provides malpractice. NH is my own gig where I am providing primary care services.

I work for an Urgent Care in the Boston area but I have my license and a LLC setup in NH where NPs are independent. Anyone else have a practice in NH that could recommend a good malpractice insurance company that knows the difference ? Tks JD

HHC would be a great choice if your interested in wound care. That is a great and much needed niche. I would see about getting a wound/ostomy certification Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society™ (WOCN®)... You'll be able to write your own ticket. Good luck! -JD

I think everyone has already expressed that you did nothing wrong.. and I agree. My question to you is... what do you think you should have done differently and why? You did everything right... Have faith in yourself and your abilities... do NOT fall into that typical nurse thing of putting yourself down and ruining your self esteem... That doesn't help you, your patients or our profession. -JD

The whole conversation about if something "counts" as something else.. is sort of moot... fact is your resume goes into a pile of resumes... IF you get an interview and interview well you have a good chance.. it's more about who you know... As far as career choices etc etc... In this day and age Home Health patients are getting sicker and more complicated AND you have little or no support like a hospital nurse does.. so as far as giving you great tools, decision making and problem soling skills... Home health will beat hospital based nursing any day. I'll be willing to bet you will eventually get the hospital job and at some point find yourself wanting to go back to home care nursing for all the reasons listed above. Seize the moment and put yourself into your present work 100% while your there.. the rest will come and remember... If your not known for your work ethic... your not working hard enough :-) Good Luck! -JD

All, My partner and I are both healthcare professionals, I'm a family NP and my partner is a pharmacist, We have started a new home care company for a few reasons but mostly because after my experience as a care coordinator / case manager and senior center volunteer and his recent experience with his mom passing away and the care she received... we felt we could fill a gap and improve care for people in need. That being said we are NOT professional home care people.. that is both a blessing and a curse. We are not set in our ways and feel as we "know it all" but this in-experience makes a difficult learning curve. We have hired a company to help us with the policies and procedures to work through our medicare certification.. but what we lack is true "boots on the ground" experience. Getting our first 10 patients, Oasis etc etc... is a daunting task so experienced advice is always welcome! That is a loaded and very broad question... In my personal experience and opinion being a nurse only helps you know A&P to SOME degree.. Being an NP is more about the practice of medicine and advanced problem solving. What home health will help you with is how to deal with people, read people and develop a rapport with people.. I'm looking for information from experienced school nurses... specifically resume writing assistance as well as pay scale in the Boston, Ma areas. I'm 43years old have been a nurse since 96 but have not been practicing at the bedside for 10 years..
