  1. I think the people who would make the decision to give a nurse 10+ patients are not nurses or haven't worked on the floor in such a long time that they have forgotten what it's like. Oh they are nurses. They just dont care. I should have listened to all of you. I accepted the job. The nurse to patient ratio is still 11, sometimes 10 if I'm lucky and orientation was only 6 weeks. Im left to "fend for myself with all these patients. I go home crying each time and I'm starting to dislike nursing! I have no time for the patients. I find myself telling them I'm sorry but ill be back and dont come back hours later. I'm so task oriented and miss the whole aspect of "patient centered carre" No time to talk to my patients. And did I mentioned we are not computerized so I spend time handwriting and figuring out nursing orders and notes. I'm miserable. What should I do? I have two children to feed and they are in private school and soon a mortgage since im looking to buy a home. I live in a not so good neighborhood! HELLPPPP!!!!!

  3. What is the type of unit? IT'S A COMBINATION MED/SURG UNIT IT HAS PATIENTS WITH TELEMETRY AND THEY ALL ARE ON ROAMING ALERT SO THEY HAVE THE BRACELET ON TOP OF IT! So as mentioned I was wondering if having 10-12 pts safe? But after asking around I think it's not. Thanks for asking.
  4. I don't know what to do I need a job soon but at what expense!? I'm so torn! I want to protect my license and well being also.
  5. I just interviewed for a registered nurse position as a new graduate. I was told that the nurse to patient ratio is 10-12 patients per nurse that sounds very scary! Is that even safe? Please let me know the nurse to patient ratio in the hospitals in New York (5 boroughs especially) I am looking for another hospital to apply. I think I might decline the offer if offered. Please specify if it is night or day shift. I need advice I'd like to know what nurse to patient ratio you think is safe on a regular basis. Thanks a MILLION!!! I'm LOST!!!!
  6. I borrowed a total of 69,000 ($25,000 in Gvt. loan and 44,0000 in private) for an accelerated nursing program in the city. I had a scholarship for $11,000. Yes if you count it the tuition was approximately $80,000 for 15months! I just graduated this January and looking for a job! Let me know if anyone is hiring RN, BSN (graduated with Honors from a great school and already have license)
  7. hi nurse Nat how are you? Did you get hired at nyp cornell? I'm trying to get in. Scheduled for a phone interview if that goes well is the pharm test after that? How's the interview process? Thanks a lot!
  8. Hi Hun first of all congratulations on graduating as a nurse. Second I'm sorry you had two bad days and did not pass the NCLEX. However, it is not the end of the world. I'm glad you got your tears out and now you are ready to go. I just graduated in December and I'm about to take the NCLEX in about a month. Here are some suggestions: since you register with Kaplan: Do the diagnostic test and try to score above 60 then do all the QBAnk questions. Review the course contents on the areas of the diagnostic test that you scored below 60. After all the Qbank questions do the readiness test and try to score 65. Qtrainer test #6 you should 2 weeks before you take the NCLEX and Q Trainer #7 you should do 1 week before the real thing. If you need ANY help PM me. I have some great suggestions. ok Good Luck DO NOT HESITATE TO PM me!
  9. Hello Nadz02RN, Happy Holidays (if you celebrate). I hope you got the job if so can you please tell me what is the salary for new grad, night shift differentials, do they offer tuition reinbursement and how was the application process? Thanks
  10. Anybody? How much does Lutheran Hospital, SUNY Downstate, New York Methodist Hospital, Elmurst Hospital in Queens are paying new grads with a BSN? Also Night differential and tuition reimbursement? Last but not least are they all unionized? Are they hiring new grads and do they have preceptorship or training and how long is it? Thanks a million. Just graduated last week!
