  1. on the other hand, if I can include a lab value on a pic I will, like if Im drawing a pic for chemotherapy, I will include blood counts (WBC's, RBC's and platelets) on the pic because these labs are directly affected by chemo.
  2. mainly pictures for drugs, sorry didn't clarify, for lab values I just have to memorize
  3. I use pictures, I either draw them myself or print them from online. I have a photographic memory so the pics help me remember values and medications.
  4. THank you very much, this info was very helpful.
  5. Will be taking first psych exam next week, any advice on how to study or what the exams are like, i know everyone take their psych class as a whole course but my school incorporates it between the end of 3rd semester and beginning of 4th. I have only read the communication chapter because that was recommended.
  6. she is spit between two floors some with ten of us, she must have said something to the charge because i ended up with a nurse, she gave me one of her patients and i did do everything for my patient however the day started out rough and that bothers me, im over it, 1 more clinical rotation
  7. Oh my clinical instructor must have said something, i texted her and told her what was up and she must have talked to charge because finally a nurse took me and I ended up missing report and I really wanted to pick a good patient because i needed to do a piggyback check off, at the end of the day i ended up getting to do my checkoff but with someone elses patient because mine didnt have any
  8. I swear every week when we go to our floor for clinicals the nurses pratically run away from us. The charge nurse on the floor tell us to just get with someone and last week every nurse I went to said they didn't want a student. I ran out of people to ask and I went in the breakroom and sat down until finally a nurse who doesn't like students took me. It was horrible. I watched the clock all day. To me this is the worst part of nursing school to me. Its as if no one remembers when they were in nursing school and the way nurses either made you feel welcomed or like crap. Last semester the charge nurses had us assigned and had reports printed for us. It was great but this semester.. negative. 1 more semester after this, Cant wait to be done!!!!
  9. I took ATI pharmacology exam today, we had 65 questions and since my entire class was completely overwhelmed, most of us worked the weekend, and we took a cardiac exam 4 days ago, we all did pretty good, i will say that i think most us only had time to take the assessment questions provided on the ATI website and we did okay, our school uses a conversion chart and give us an actual grade we also took the nutrition one today it also was 65 questions, i did better on nutrition but managed to pull B on both. good luck
  10. Its good that you did well in A&P because it will benefit you in Patho. Patho is just a more in depth look into A&P, it will take you a bit more of study time than A&P did. If this is your only science class this semester then give it a lot of attention. Use the study guide or disk in the book that you are assigned, hopefully it comes with both. Thats what I used to make sure that I was on track with my studies. Good Luck
  11. I will be starting the program in Jan 2011, they have already sent us a schedule of days we will be in class. What do you mean by unorganized, I have heard this comment by many others. the last program I was in, was a BSN program, we had to be at school Mon- Fri with one day off and we were all over the place, they didn't want to admit that they took in too many students (40 over the intended number) and so it was just chaotic. BTW, Thanks for responding to my post. Good Luck with your 3rd semester.
  12. Has anyone been in or in the THR/ El centro nursing program? If so, do you have advice for an entering student. I have been to nursing school before, it was a BSN program but I had to withdraw because of financial reasons. So, besides nursing being hard and very time consuming, is there any advice you can give about this program.
  13. Im curious to know if anyone has been or in the Texas Health resources/ El Centro nursing program here in the DFW area. If so, what advice can you give to a entering student. I have been to nursing school before but had to withdraw due to financial reasons so besides it being hard and tough, is there anything other advice I can use right now. I will start in Jan.
  14. I currently work at a hospital, i am not a nurse....yet, im a pct on the surgical floor and have seen people dehis. Doctors typically don't allow any of us to mess with the primary dressings that they place, mainly because they want to assess for drainage or blood themselves, but On the occasion that a patient says they feel something opening, if its not visual, most docs will more than likely say that they are okay and that everything is in tact (dressing, staples, etc. The staff would more than likely keep an eye on the H&H and watch the levels. We get patients that come from having abdominal surgeries, especially if its their first abdom surgery, and describe the pain as your pt did. As a nurse you are not wrong for taking the patients word and assessing, some dont even do that, you will just have to keep your team informed on the patient condition and have them all keep an eye on her with you, especially if patient will be ambulatory. Good Luck
