  1. Houston New Grads Beware of St. Luke's

i begin my story by explaining that when i was contacted by st. luke's to interview for their fall 2012 gn residency program, i was thrilled! i graduated in december 2011 with my bsn, i quickly scheduled my nclex exam, and passed with flying colors. ...
  2. I need some advice from all our wonderful nurses out there. As my title entails I graduated in December of 2011 with my BSN. I searched high and low for a GN residency position. I was contacted by 4 hospitals total (2 hospitals were just narrowing...
  3. Update: Sadly this no longer applies to my original post. I went into preterm labor with my son at 22 weeks, and despite our best efforts, we lost him. Thank you for all those that gave me advice on the pregnancy and finding a job front. Unfortunatel...
  4. University of Houston-Victoria second degree BSN spring 2013

I hate to tell you this, but you are going to have to get over this fear very quickly if you are accepted into this program. I am a graduate from the 2011 cohort, and this program LOVES group projects/presentations. You will have 2-3 per semester to ...
  5. Thank you Ashley! We are very excited to become parents! :) Thankfully, my husband's salary provides very well for us. Therefore, it was never a necessity for me to work. I think I would enjoy working, and the second income would always be nice. My...
  6. Unfortunately, there are always those few that will belittle your efforts regardless what the situation is, or regardless of age. Trust me, it only gets worse once you're in the nursing program. I can't even begin to tell you just how annoyed I was i...
  7. University of Houston-Victoria second degree BSN spring 2013

Sueall, None of the employers I interviewed with had a problem with me graduating from an accelerated BSN program. I actually was told by each of them, that I must be very ambishous and dedicated to becoming a nurse. I ended up being hired by a preg...
  8. University of Houston-Victoria second degree BSN spring 2013

I am one of the graduates from the 2011 class. I can with 100% certainty tell you that the school is still accepting new students. The conditional status will most likely be lifted in the fall of 2012, as the 2011 (most recent group of grads to take ...
  9. Houston New Grads Beware of St. Luke's

UPDATE: I did end up being offered a volunteer RN position with a crisis pregnancy center here in Houston. Even though it's a non-paid position and not acute care, I decided to take it. Plus, they grabbed me up as soon as they could, and couldn't und...

  11. According to the NCSBN, for quality control purposes, every NCLEX is scored twice; once by the computer at the test center and then the result is verified after the examination record has been transmitted to Pearson VUE. They state on their website t...
  12. MD Anderson Grad Residency Program

I figured since interviews have already begun. I saw it posted on Sunday or Monday, but was just too busy at the time to go through a lengthy application process. Had some time today to actually sit down and do it, but sadly it was gone. Oh well! May...
  13. MD Anderson Grad Residency Program

Have they taken the posting down for the August start date? I found it the other day, but didn't apply to it because I got busy. I thought about it today (3 days later), and can no longer find it.
  14. I also agree Kaplan is most like NCLEX. I used Hurst and Kaplan. I ditched Hurst after awhile and turned to strictly using Kaplan because I really liked how their program improved my critical thinking skills.
  15. Congrats New Grad RN! The pop up worked for me as well when I took my NCLEX in Feb. I also passed in 75 questions. I actually knew I passed before I left the testing center. The protor of my exam accidently slipped up and gave me a high-five when I w...

  17. Texas Children's Hospital

I know me too. We just have to keep trying. Somewhere there is a job waiting. Houston is just so completely over saturated with new nurses right now, and too many budget cuts across the board. Doesn't mean you aren't perfect for the job, just means i...
  18. Texas Children's Hospital

Well, I received the official thanks for applying, but you weren't selected for an interview e-mail. Congrats to those who got selected, and actually got a job! Maybe I will try again in December when they hire more GN's. :-)
  19. Texas Children's Hospital

Congrats Plover! That's really exciting!! Be very proud of yourself! It is a very competitive position! Hopefully I will one day be there too.
  20. Texas Children's Hospital

I totally get it. I'm only applying to jobs that are in NICU, Nursery, L&D, or Peds. That doesn't leave many jobs or hospitals to apply at for new grads. I checked TX Women's website regularly, but never saw any GN internships pop up. I applied f...
  21. Texas Children's Hospital

Yeah waiting is the hardest part. Hopefully you will hear something soon. You can always call to inquire about the status of the position which you interviewed for. Hopefully you have better luck than me. I went on an interview for Memorial Hermann S...
  22. Texas Children's Hospital

I just got back home from a 2 week vacation in Hawaii. I've been out-of-the-loop the entire time, but did check phone messages often. No interview offer for me . Oh well, the vacation was so wonderful that I had little to no time to be upset about no...
  23. Texas Children's Hospital

That's awesome plover1! Good to know that there is still hope. NICU was my top pick. Hope your interview goes well! :)
  24. Texas Children's Hospital

No phone call for me. I tried to call HR today, but no matter how many times I tried, I couldn't get through. It just hung up on me right away or gave me a busy signal. Since number for HR isn't on their website anymore, I had to keep asking the pers...
