What were the gender ratios in your nursing classes?
In my class there were 5 of us out of 40. I did not get along with many of the females because I did well academically and got hated on for it like crazy. I LOVED it when I would see that another guy was in my class, or that I would be working with another guy on a given day....it really lifts my spirits to have other males around just so I can have someone to talk to who isnt judgemental or mean. JG 0311 you are absolutely right about the barrier. Imagine what nursing would be like if you worked on a unit with all male staff.... man it would be like a construction crew except we would be cleaning up poop and passin pills.....no social stress or BS..haha dream on

Man, you guys make nursing seem HORRIBLE! If I knew this before school...
Just shut up and show em up. If you want to escape the negativity and immaturity you see on the floor (and it is often rampant), just further your education so you can obtain more autonomy, or try to get a job working in sales or for an equipment company or something. I know a guy who travels around and teaches how to use new IV pumps and various other equipment. He likes it allot more than being a floor nurse. You do have to see the humor in all this though...I mean you have to be reasonably intelligent to become a nurse. Sometimes I wonder how all these smart people can act so stupid. I wonder why there is all this backbiting all the time. Its like the various cliques will randomly choose who they like and who they don't like for some stupid ass reason, and then give the poor person hell because they looked at someone wrong one day when they had something in their eye which made them squint. I was that person in school and this immature/high-schooly type of behavior was so foreign to me when I first encountered it. It was disgusting. I probably felt like you do now. Anyways, I learned that if you have a bunch of idiots spewing negativity all over the place, using up all their energy, you can just ignore them and concentrate on what you need to do at work or school or whatever. Then you will excel. While they waste time talking trash or being mean, you just do your job, you will overstand them by default eventually. Just remember to control your mouth and what comes out of it, a minimum number of words is the best Ive learned : ) Not judging others is important too.

Grade Appeals
I disagree with what everyone is telling you. Sometimes your text books will contradict. I have noticed this with the ATI books vs. much more detailed text books (not a fan of ATI). I have argued test questions many times and ended up getting the points. They can't tell you you're wrong if your sitting there with a book that says your right. The nursing profession has very poorly written/ worded (ambiguous) test material that would not stand in any other field. If you know how to make an argument "critical thinking" questions can be fairly easy to pick apart and disprove...be analytical, methodical and most importantly correct. We are encouraged to challenge the material where I go. Look in the syllabus or handbook for your school, if it says you can argue questions go for it. They haveto permit you to do so if the handbook says its permitted. Try to remember the questions that you had in mind, then look up the related material, get your citations and formulate your argument.

% of people failing your program?
I just finished my first semester. I think about 50% of the people will no longer be with us when I go back. This is my second time through college (went to a big 10 university and had a 3.6 with a double in accounting and finance). I managed to get straight A's this semester. I think nursing school is downright stupid the way they do things based on my prior college experiences (which were very high quality and organized). Where i go they look for every way to make you fail. They are extremely disorganized. They look for every way to not give you credit for things that you understand or are correct on, always on a technicality. The 50% who failed out, didnt fail out because they werent smart enough. It was by design, built into the program.
