  1. Is going for an Associates worth the time and money here in GA? I really want to get into wound care and everywhere I have looked requires an RN for that. Also, are there any schools you'd recommend to apply to or avoid? Thanks
  2. You talk about the aides where you work, the hospital where I worked, only paid nurses 11 and change an hour. Well, let me qualify that, they paid LPN's w/over 1 year exp 11.45/hour. RN's started at 18 fresh out of school not even licensed yet. It did make me smile to see someone give some kudos to aides that do a great job. There are alot of them out there who do wonders with the pts and alerting staff to problems.
  3. hi april... are ya'll looking for any help in the icu there? my sister is moving back down here and has been working icu for the past 2 years... take care meredith
  4. Thanks for the welcome.. It is alot of help, especially with the scrub colors. And it's great to talk to folks that already work where I'll be working... I'll be working 3-11 7 on/7 off. Not sure which week I'll be on yet. Michelle is the one who interviewed me, she was great. I've actually emailed her a couple of questions about stuff and she's been great about responding even though I'm not working yet. :-) I've been trying to find scrubs that are comfy and yet for a good price too, so hopefully I'll be able to find some. Ceil blue's not a bad color. The pyxis will be different for me, we were waiting on it at the last hosp I worked at, it ended up coming in 2 days before my last day... thanks so much meredith
  5. hi i'll be on 3west. general orientation starts on the 30th. i've been wondering about all kinds of things... scrub colors, how people act, worry about the doctors.... , when payday will be. oh yeah, and another one: how long will it take me before i can find my way around? lol......
  6. Thanks for the welcome, but I'm not new to town... I grew up here, just haven't worked at SGMC or any larger hospital before :-)
  7. Hey, I just started doing agency last month with 11 months of exp. I had only worked at one hospital. I love it, most everyone that I've met on my assignments has been nice. Looking for stuff at each new place is kind of a pain in the butt, but I have no problem asking someone else if they know where it is either... :-) The agency I'm working for had me do a check list with experience in different areas, so that when they get a call they can double check with that facility if they think I have enough exp to work the area they need. It was a long list to fill out cause they went through every area they could think of that someone might have worked, but I can see how it would save time/money/stress from someone being put somewhere they have no exp in. Hope that helps a little.
  8. Anyone on here work there? I'm starting orientation the end of this month and was wanting to get any opinions/tips from folks who might already be working there... I've only worked in a small hospital before, where everyone pretty much knew everyone. So, it's going to be a bit of a change....
  9. I know up in Commerce just north of Athens, LPN's start around $15-16. I think the CNA's were starting about $8 or 9. I've been out of school for a 2 years, LPN, and my first nursing job was at $12 in North GA. I'm starting in Valdosta this month and am taking a cut to $11. I also work for an agency and nothing pays less that $17 when I go somewhere for them.
  10. Hey, I don't know a whole lot about schools in Atlanta, but some of the folks I work with probably do, I'll ask around and get back to you. take care
  11. The hospital I work at now we work 12's and at their LTC they work 8 & 12's. It works out ok, like someone else said you spend your first day off recovering. The hospital I'm starting at in April, I'll be working 8's 5 days a week and 12's on the wknd, but then I'm off for 7 days after that. I'm sure I'll still spend that first day recovering from the week before. And I'll probably pick up some days working for an agency on my week off, but I'll just spend a lot of the time with my daughter. Being able to work this way does let me have a lot of time with my daughter and that is it's biggest benefit. :-) take care
  12. Hi, I'm Merei. I'm an LPN working in Commerce, GA. I live down in Valdosta though, so I have to leave my 8 month old with her daddy while I come up and work days all together. I'm hoping to start working in Valdosta next month though. I had a great interview at SGMC last week, so waiting to hear. I'm also going to apply to VSU to start working on my BSN. take care, merei
  13. Congrats to You!!!! And I'll join you, since I finally got my results this evening I'm so freakin' happy I don't think I can stand myself. :chuckle take care merei
  14. Thanks everyone, that question has just stuck in my mind.
  15. When I took mine yesterday, there was a question on there about what should be done when someone who follows Scientology dies. I had no clue and had to guess at the answer that seemed to make sense to me, that they wouldn't want an autopsy. The other options were, wrapping in a shroud, spouse pronounces death, and family members taking care of cleaning the body up. Anybody know more that can help me figure out if I got it right or not?
  16. I'll wait right along with you, I took mine yesterday as well. I have to be at work tomorrow at 6.45, so my hubby is going to look for them and call me to let me know............
  17. Just wanted to tell you that we're testing on the same day.... I'm also using the Saunders book and am trying to keep myself from being completely paranoid about the test and my results.... Some days I feel really good about it, and others I feel like I don't remember anything from school....

Thanks everyone, all the tips helped to keep me a bit calmer... I DID IT!!!! I got a job!!!! the one on Med-Surg part time, can move to full time when one opens up. Everyone was really great as the Unit Director was walking me around, she said the only waiting part was for my background check and to get my physical done. :)
