ceecee22 how did your interview go? I'm a new grad and I'm really leaning toward oncology. I'd like to hear your opinion on the beginning process of getting a job in this specialty.

Thanks again for all of the helpful comments. :) I did speak to one of my instructors and they did say that it doesn't matter where you test, but where you apply/pay for your license to be active. @fsuao2006: That's what I kind of figured might be the situation over there right now.. Really there are only 4-5 hospitals in the Pensacola area and quite a few nursing schools in the area as well that are all competing for spaces and have done clinical in those hospitals as well.. I hope you find something soon. It's an all around tough situation. I'm not a conflict type of person so situations like this make me cringe.

So I know this might be a little bit personal, but I'm going to throw it out there to the world wide web and get some opinions on this situation... so here it goes. I'm currently attending a BSN program and I'm set to graduate Spring 2014! (woohoo!) I'm attending a university here in Jacksonville, FL which means I've done all of my clinical experience here in the local hospitals. Here's where things are going to get a little bit sticky.. My family is from the panhandle of Florida, Pensacola to be exact, and they(mom in particular) want me to return home there and take my boards and find a job within the area ie/ Destin, Fort Walton, Gulf Breeze, etc. Two problems with this that I've stumbled across: 1) You don't take boards in Pensacola, the closest place to take them is Mobile. 2) You have about a snowball's chance in Hades for getting a job in a hospital that you have not previously done clinical or precept-ed in as a new grad. ^#2 I could be completely wrong about so I guess that is why I'm throwing this out for discussion to see what others think about this situation. Oh and the other little detail I need to mention, my BF lives in Jacksonville and is a big advocate of me staying here. Oh and I'm an only child which doesn't help my cause on independence. So my question is "Should I stay or should I go?" and also "How can I get my parents to accept my decision as a grown 24 year old adult?" Thanks in advance for the advice. :)

Thanks roemerr :) @RN In FL: It seems like I can't send PM's back for some reason, but my TEAS score was an 81% and my gpa was about a 3.7 or something like that. This was my second time around applying so if u don't get in the first time always try try again. Never give up. That being said I hope ur daughter gets in the first time around :) tell her not to be nervous. The interview is more of a discussion than interrogation lol be confident and be excited let them see that u want to be a nurse and want to get your degree @ UNF. Best wishes!

@runswimfly: i don't really remember too much of what the questions were as it has been quite a few months since i had the interview and I was so nervous when I did it lol um i do remember however that it was a group interview which looking back it definitely made the whole experience a little bit more calming since you were with your peers and it was more like a group conversation and sometimes someone would say something that would give you a little bit of direction and memory jog of what to say yourself. Hope that helps :) everyone was very nice and it went well. @amanda.kristine: good luck on your test :) i'm taking mine next month as well. :)

I'm not really sure why i didn't get in.. i mean there were a lot of applicants that were very well qualified and there weren't that many seats so.. i think that's part of it also my TEAS test score was 81% so.. that didn't really help me all that much.. this time around i'm going to be better dedicated to studying for the test. I kind of goofed around last year when i took it and should've been more serious about it.. it's not really that hard i don't want to freak you out about it lol, but i mean it's the little things like conversions and the chemistry and biology.. (i was never the stellar student at biology. i got through it and passed lol i don't want to write anything on here too damaging lol) if you get the study guide and go through it you'll do fine. :)

@Chesca6: That's great! :) I'm going to apply to USF as well. Good luck on the TEAS I found the study guide really helped. :) @Eric: I'm applying to the traditional track. Good luck on your exam as well! :)

Hi danceluver! I'm planning on applying for the summer 2012 program at UNF. I applied last year for Fall 2011 and made it up to the interview stage, but did not get selected. I'm hoping for a better outcome this time.:) Are you applying to any other schools?

hello all i'm really late posting, but i was wondering do they ask for how many hours you've completed of experience or do you just write about your experience in your writing sample? Also a question about the writing sample, do they give you a prompt as to what to write about? I know for UF's application it had something like "how will being in UF's nursing program help you achieve your nursing goals?" or something similar to that.. thanks for the info :) I'm trying to apply for USF summer 2012 i'm done with all my pre-reqs and got all A's in them so hopefully that will help i've also done some volunteer work at a local hospital as well.. i was applying last year to programs and got an interview at UNF, but was not selected.. needless to say i got rejected everywhere else.. hopefully this coming year will be a little bit more successful :) -lexi

Hi everyone I am currently a FL resident but live in the Pensacola area and heard that USA gives in state tuition to surrounding FL area residents. I was wondering if I could get some info about the school like how you're experiences have been. I noticed alot of negative responses at the beginning of this thread.. *yikes*, but the dates on them are from a few years back so I was wondering if things might have changed a little. I also was wondering about the admissions process. I saw something on their site about an interview could be part of it. Just curious on what it was like when you guys were trying to get in. :) thanks, _lex

I didn't get in I got the decline, but I'll wait for the letter to see if possibly I got waitlisted. I know everything happens for a reason and I'll try and remain hopeful. Hi all :) Is anyone interviewing at the 9:30 time? I've seen quite a few 10:30's. I'd like to know somebody at the same interview time :)

My friend is doing pre prof. Biology at UWF right now she too is trying to figure what to do.. She wanted to go to PA school after but I think switched her mind to pharmacy. You guys had some pretty rough classes to take. Ive heard her talk about them I'm sure you'll get in :) good luck at the interview :)

I went to Pensacola state college ( I keep wanting to call it PJC lol) I started there after highschool with the intent of being an architecture major and went to UF to persuit it... I ended up finding out though architecture just wasn't my thing so I switched to nursing and came back home to do pre reqs :) what did you major in at UWF?
