I am a new grad (LPN) about to start a new job in a gynecology office. (No OB). I have had very little gyn experience as our local facilities would not allow students while they were getting their new EMR software. so sadly we missed out on a lot of clinical rotations. anyhoo, I interviewed with the dr. and she loved me, even though she would have to start from scratch with me. so i got the job! I am very excited and nervous. Does anyone have any recommendations on websites or books that i can start studying up on GYN procedures and equipment etc. Thanks in advanced!

It's funny, they do know. because all they would tell me is that if I miss one more I will have to make it up at the end of the year. But they won't give me my exact hours. she has said she just won't tell us. Many of us have asked over and over. I do not plan on missing anymore, it's just frustrating that she refuses to tell us. She is afraid that we will take advantage of that, and be like, "oh i can miss today because i have enough hours". which i guess i understand, but for me it's the opposite. Like i sad I have alot of unforeseen things happen this year which has caused me to miss more clinicals and class hours than I would have liked. anyhoo, I guess I'm more frustrated because I feel like I have a right to know what's going on with my class and status and such.

is it normal to get so many views but zero comments? I am starting to think I have forum leprosy. is there something I could do differently? this seems to happen to me alot on this site.

I was wondering if any of you have access to your clinical hours. If you asked your instructor would they tell you exactly how many hours you have, so you can keep track and make sure you have the required amount? this year I have had alot going on with family and personal health. So I have missed some hours. I have tried to keep track myself, but I just want to know exactly. they absolutely REFUSE to tell me how many hours I have. It wasn't like that last year, but this year we have a new director. I just feel like, it is completely my right to know. am I wrong?

so I only have a couple months left in my LPN program. This is the part where we go out and find out own Intern/preceptorships. I currently have two options that are basically a go, I just have to choose which one i want. that's the problem lol. one of them is at a dialysis clinic. I have some experience because i hook my dad up to his home hemo 6 days a week. and I do have interest, my main interest in the category is transplant though. but i figured this could be a foot in the door. then there is a cardio office. I dont have quite as much interest, although i think i would learn alot! and honestly so many people have some form of cardiac disease. I really think it could be a good experience. so those two are the ones that i have spoken to, and all i have to do is have them sign the papers. BUT, I am also very drawn to OB/newborn. which surprised me a bit. I didn't really have interest when i chose nursing in the first place. Another place, was ICU. I had a clinical day in teh ICU and i fell in LOVE. however, i do realize that these two most likely look for RNs (which i plan on getting ASAP). so anyway, sorry so long. I just can't seem to choose! any advice, help, anything?

That really was the point of my post, was to understand better. Not too much to complain, it was just bad timing for me to post since I was still emotional. but I really appreciate everyone's opinion and experience. It really does help. triage is not my first choice area, not out of the question, but I guess that's what clinicals are for, to kind of figure out your niche! lol. Thank you all again!! ps. my dad was discharged yesterday. he is feeling much better, and very glad to be home!

sorry for not responding back yet. been quite busy and i am actually about to head out for clinicals. First i wanna say that I really appreciate your responses. I am used to forums where people just beat each other up, are down right mean, and make you feel stupid for even posting. I appreciate the kind and informative responses you all gave me. It was indeed A-fib. When they finally got him back his HR was 179 and that's when things went into action. I was more dissapointed in the attitude the one nurse gave. the other nurse's eyes totally bugged out like whoa we should do something, and the other one was pretty rude. I do get it that sometimes you can have a bad day and maybe you came across wrong. So i didn't dwell too much on it. I jsut wanted to try to understand. You can actually see back into where they do your vitals and triage patients, and there was noone in there. my mother likes to talk to everyone and meet knew friends, even in the ER lol (i get on her case about it sometimes lol) and she said one person was in for their shoulder, another was throwing up, and one had a bloody nose. now for the Peds cases She doesn't know. and you all are right, I don't know what else was going on. Everything is okay now. They were FINALLY able to stabalize his HR with meds, no need for the shock. (he was worried about that lol). He is being observed in cardiac stepdown. Again, that you all for your responses!

so a quick run down. just wanted opinions. 59 yr old male patient in ESRF comes into the ER. wife signs him in and describes that he is "finishing dialysis (home hemodialysis), rapid heart rate, feeling of fist in throat and constant burping." (that is exactly what she wrote down). two nurses are behind the window, one seems concerned and the other says, "well we will get to you we can". in a not so nice tone. there was about 3 other people waiting to be seen in the waiting room, 3 in peds waiting. and nobody was in the back being seen by triage. he waited for 15 minutes before being seen. I am still a student, and have not had experience in triage, but wouldn't they be a bit more urgent and concerned with him? again, i know it all depends on whatever else they have, but their attitude just really kind of sucked. (well the one nurse). anyhoo, turns out he was in afib. his HR was all over the place but seemed to be fond of the high 170s. my father is the said patient.

oh drug cards. we actually only did a few last year, but then over the summer we had 65 to do (among other many summer assignments). They are a pain, but they are helpful! We were also not allowed to copy, paste, buy preprinted, and we had to do our best to put them into our own words. Of course the dosages aren't really something you can put into your own words. but it really helps if you do them yourself that way you can learn the material as you do it. Good luck! they are no fun, but they will definitely help you...ALOT!

I totally get it. Keep striving for the best. But I was warned that in nursing school....a B is pretty much the norm. An "A" can be hard to come by. Celebrate your B's and keep striving for the A's, but do not beat yourself up. wish I could be more helpful! Good Luck!

Thank you so much! I love/hate school lol. I could not be happier with the path I'm on. I just get that occasional lapse where I feel inadequate or like this is taking forever to get to my dream. I can do this!! Thanks for the encouragememt!

thank you, that's where I was thinking about putting it. I mean it does make sense lol. I have a unique set up to my resume. it's a little less traditional. :)

any words of encouragement? anyone else ever feel this way?

I went through a four week CNA course back in March 2011. during that time I was accepted into a practical nursing program in which I now only have 9 months left, YAY! anyhoo, some of the girls from my CNA class got jobs pretty quickly in hospitals, and one other just got a job as well. they are all care team assistants, which i guess is similar to a patient care tech ?? not really sure of their responsibilities. and of course i do celebrate and am happy for them. but a small part of me feels discouraged, and a bit jealous i guess you can say. just a little bit. only because this is something I've wanted for so long, and I feel like I have been doing, and am going to do, nothing but school, school school! lol. I know i seem silly, because I am so happy for them. My plans are to continue my education and advancing as far as I can go. but right now, I'm feeling a bit impatient lol. that's all, just venting a bit.

I have about 9 months left of LPN school. I have been keeping my resume up to date, because you never know when the perfect opportunity shows up. Anyhoo, I just went on a medical missions trip to Zambia, and I wanted to put that as a part of my resume. I'm not sure where to put it and how to put it? any advice?

wow, so I was totally thinking about TCN after I finished my LPN next year. Any other suggestions? I liked the idea that you can take exams and get equivalent credits (this was my understanding). I had kids when I was 19, so I didn't get a good start in college. I only have 12 credits which i believe expire after 7 years (guess what, it's been 7 years) So when my instructor told me about TCN being accredited, I was so excited. This seemed like the best route for me. Now i'm hesitant after hearing this.

My motto lately has become, "i love it,even when i hate it!" lol. School is tough. But it is for good reason. Just think about a nurse taking care of you or a loved one. Wouldnt you feel beter knowing they worked their butt off to reach their goal and dream of being a great nurse? I keep my eyes on the end goal! It will be worth it in the end!Oh and i saw a comment earlier, and i want to reiterate. Do not get bent out of shape when you dont get"A"s. B is the new for me lol

Next week is our first week of clinicals. We got a small list from our instructor but I was just curious what you all have in your nursing bags?

Don't come at a patient with a red tipped thermometer and say, "open wide and put this under your tongue".
