Can A Nurse Lose Their Nursing License If They Tested Positive For HIV?
First of all I am HIV NEGATIVE. I have the papers, got tested last week, My papers regarding My HIV stats are required so I am able to do some amateur cage fighting (LOL @ myself as an 40 hr q week LVN NOC Shifter who does amateur cage fighting q 3 - 4 months) Please understand that I only worked LVN for 1 year and still learning my nursing skills and I have limited knowlegde regarding HIV/AIDS though I read my nursing text books on that topic Here is my Fake Scenario. Hypothetical Q There is a nurse who works at a hospital. She is a "sex addict" and goes around comes around during her day/night off's. Going to bars/clubs and if the flirtatious conversation goes well, she goes and sleeps with some random guy. Although her sex partners uses condom, she still gets unlucky and gets infected. Then out of the blue she decides to get HIV test get her blood drawn. The test results becomes positive... As a health care provider, A nurse who gets recently dx with HIV+, does she lose her nursing license? Is a HIV+ nurse putting patient a small risk of getting infected by accidental needle sticks or accidental coughing blood droplets (if HIV opportunistic disease worsens) Or AIDS dementia sets in I just got the idea since and forgive me that I am a guy who gets surrounded by estrogen filled CNA's and Nurses and working with pretty female nurses and I cant help my male brain to think "what if she acts like a good girl nurse during on duty, but off duty shes actually a nympho/a cheating wife?":lol2:

Student Mistreatment
I had a queen ***** of hell as an clinical instructor too, I even yelled at her, saying as I stood up"What The HELL DO YOU WANT!" (with an F word) as she was trying to talk to me I just grabbed my stuff and left the clinical day. I wrote an appology letter next day. and then she no longer belittle me. I also accepted that this is her way of teaching. on the last days of clinicals that queen btch of hell told me. "You are going to be a good nurse, I am so proud of you" and I no longer see her as queen ***** of hell. I see her as a mentor who only tries her best to produce top notch nurses. Dont do what I did. DONT YELL BACK! If the instructor say "Look it up" Dont be offended. The instructor is teaching you to become resourceful. as a nurse, you need to be resourceful and full of knowledge. If the instructor tells you the answer right away... its just spoon feeding a baby and its likely you will forget. thats why LOOK IT UP is the best way.

What happens when you forget to do things????
To me its not a biggie. I just call the and let my coworker/nextshift nurse know "OH I forgot to do this so when I come back to work I'll finish it" (that is unless forgeting to CHART NEW ORDERS IN MAR's [carrying out] may cause harm to patients such as d/c med or change of dosage.) I get scratch paper and write down things and post it on my MAR then throw it away after my shift

No wonder we are getting nursing students who are only in it for $
True Story telling time: I do nursing for the money. But that does not mean I am a heartless, incompassionate person. I still love my patients and take care of them to the best of my abilities with TLC. Nursing was not my calling. It was actually when I was working as a security guard @ Kaiser and befriended some nurses, they told me to go to a nursing school so I could join them. After hearing it over and over and being annoyed by my friends, thats when I started looking for a nursing school and I said to myself "its worth a shot" Now, I work at LTC and the DON and my co-workers both Nurses and CNA and alert patients praise me how kind I am. and Just to annoy/4tehlulz you forum critters, I, Jason LVN, Do nursing and I am in it just for the money! I give TLC @ the LTC and everyones happy. My nursing skills pays the bills. I enjoy doing it I will forever do it. As long as DON's happy with my work performance, I am happy NOW GIMME MY MONEY!

Is there an Off-Topic Forum? Where nurses discuss things in life non nursing related?
I cant seem to find a thread or a forum where you can discuss non nursing related.. where you can just talk about... Hey How's your day ? or What did you do last night in the dance club? or whatever topic that floats your boat.

Do you have and tips on what first time LVN's should know very well before working?
READ MAR CAREFULLY... I cant stress this enough. It's very easy to get a med error.

Any other LPN's find LTC too much to deal with?
Our policies... NOC charge nurse does the foley change + GT dressing change + and other tx. then pass 5am-6am meds. Our DON does the communication with MD and do alot of charting (careplan) we have Tx nurse that comes in at 4 hours to help carry out MD orders, and insulin and Tx dressing change. while charge nurse at AM + PM focuses on Medications and supervises CNA's I am fortunate enough to work in this facility without little to no stress. (unless something out of ordinary occurs)
