  1. Drexel ACE program e-books

Just learned earlier today that the Drexel nursing program is/has moved from regular textbooks to e-books. Saw that the ACE program went completely with e-books starting with the fall 09 class. Anyone have any input/opinions on how different it is? I...
  2. Financing for 2012 Drexel ACE program?

You will have to look at private scholarships. The Drexel ACE program (like almost all second degree programs) don't offer school scholarships. It's all loans and any private scholarships you can find.
  3. What color is your uniform?

Navy blue bottoms. Yellow tops (official color is dandelion) with embroidered school logo on the chest. White lab coat with school patches.
  4. Pregnant during FNP school?

As far as getting pregnant just before starting work... just remember, not all places offer any type of maternity leave other than FMLA. And to be eligible for FMLA you have to have been employed by the current company for at least 1 year. If not, th...

  6. I want to tell you lies...

I received this many, many years ago when I was working as an ER tech and just found it again. Figured I'd share. It's sad, but it makes you think: I want to tell that little boy, his Mom will be just fine I want to tell that dad, we got his daugh...
  7. Overtime, how much?

I can't wait for the days when I actually get paid overtime again AND have the ability to say no when I want to. My current career/job, I'm salary and that means there are no set hours. You're required to work as long as it takes to get the work done...
  8. Nursing students required to have health insurance?

Most schools require proof of health insurance coverage for full time students, regardless of major. If you don't have health insurance, you're required to purchase the school's plan or they will refer you to a plan.
  9. Situation, pay and insurance

If you're contract or PRN, then yes. The rate is often higher when benefits are not offered. However, if you're talking about something like a full time hospital position, then no. You can choose to opt out of things like health insurance, but you do...
  10. That's a bad idea all around. That can most definitely be a reason to disciplined or even fired with cause, especially if you get a manager whose petty or looking to make an example. If the schedule's already made and you need special dispensation,...
  11. denial to reapply to take the test

If there's one thing that gets under my skin, especially in my professional life, it's the attitude of "I know I broke the rule/policy/standard/etc, but it shouldn't matter because of XYZ..." But officer! I was only going 15 mph over the speed limit!...
  12. I like the lullaby for the newborns and have seen (or rather heard )that in a number of hospitals.
  13. Navy Corpsman to Nursing

Again, you have to remember, this is simply based on the research that I did before deciding on my path. I have no doubt there are people here who will tell you that they made it into ER/trauma without a BSN. However, in the research that /I/ did (wh...
  14. Navy Corpsman to Nursing

I'm assuming that you are referring which path to take for RN (ADN, BSN, LPN/LVN then bridge to RN). I had some of the same questions and like you, I know that I want to work ER/trauma. I did some research on job openings and talking to people in the...
  15. Immunizations & nursing school

I lived (thankfully) through a long stay in the ICU on a vent because of contracting Hib as a child. I also live every day with the side effects of the powerful antibiotics that were required to overcome the infection. I'm glad that there is a vac...
  16. Immunizations & nursing school

This is not really an issue of vaccine pros vs cons. Even some of the biggest anti-vaccine groups admit that it is perfectly legal in the healthcare industry and military to require vaccines and they can prevent you from work/school if you refuse ...
  17. is it OK to submit your 2 week notice via email?

It really is a question of what you can do vs what is in your best interest. Giving notice is giving notice no matter how you do it, however... Legally, a pedestrian in a crosswalk has the right of way and cars have to stop. On a busy street with car...
  18. Latent TB

Most of the time, if you work in the healthcare industry, if you don't get your TB test during employment because you have been treated, then the facility usually has a policy for CXRs. Usually at least one every two years.
  19. is it OK to submit your 2 week notice via email?

Yes, it is unprofessional. You only need to find 5 minutes during the week to stop by. Turning your resignation letter should just be a quick in and out process, 2-3 minutes. It should be up to your manager to schedule a meeting at a later time to di...

  21. Applied or accepted to Drexel ACE BSN Spring 2012?

Nope, you can't do that. You don't buy a "copy" of the book, you buy access to the book. You have to access it either via their website, or an install app.
  22. Drexel ACE program e-books

They can't be electronically copied. It is application based, not file based. Instead of buying an electronic version of the book (like a .pdf), you get access to the book either via the website or via an application installed on your computer/ipod/...
  23. Applied or accepted to Drexel ACE BSN Spring 2012?

Drexel is pretty much strictly GPA. That's why their drop rate is slightly higher than other schools.

For the Fall 2011 class, tuition is $39,700. I believe the labs, fees, insurance, etc were another $2500 (not 100% on that one, but I know it's close). For books, it looks like the required bundle is $131.50 + $988.25. The optional package that is ...
  25. Is it ok to wait a couple days before you accept job offer?

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable to tell them that you would like some time to consider the offer. As a matter of fact, a good rule of thumb is to always say that whether they offer you the job at the interview or call you at a later date and offer yo...
