  1. You can go back 2editions in the books in an effort to save money on books. I bought the older edition of the books needed and it worked for me throughout the program. The Excelsior advisors have stated not to purchase more than 2 editions back. Also, many students from the EC discussion board will simply email you the college network modules for free, however you will have to choose your words carefully on the EC discussion board because EC frowns upon using other material other than EC recommended. Also, I heard of the theory exam modules from college network but I didn't know they had one for FCCA as well. Good Luck!
  2. rshenry, Congrats on your new ER RN position in Nevada. I am curious to know about your WGU progress. After reading a post from you that stated you transferred from EC to WGU, I began looking into the school's nursing programs. It appears it may be a short intense process to getting a BSN and it is on the CA BON approved schools list. I am currently awaiting my CPNE date through Excelsior's ADN program and due to my husband's job we had to relocate to California where I have recently learned that EC grads are not allowed to sit for the RN boards. This information is very disheartening so I am looking at alternative routes. I am not close enough to any borders to commute to another state. Well, I just wanted to check and see how things were going with WGU and your thoughts on the school's BSN program.
  3. Prettyplay24, In GA you have two options when getting your degree through Excelsior: 1) Complete the program, apply for RN licensure through GA you will told that you have to work 960 or 980hrs with a preceptor before you can take the NCLEX-RN. Once you complete that time, then you can take your NCLEX-RN for GA and work anywhere. Before moving our of GA I knew about 5 nurses that that I worked with (in GA) that did that route). 2) Complete the program, apply for RN licensure through another state (which ever is closest bordering state....SC, TN, NC) then do your RN endorsement to GA (many nurses took this route because was faster....the 3 states i mentioned where the common that I heard) I moved out of GA early this year ....... the newest nurse I worked with that did the EC program and endorsement became a GA RN in Sept 2012. Good luck to you!
  4. NatNat, Thanks for the feedback, good to know
  5. aaprimetime, That is awesome. I am waiting on my CPNE date and I am hoping I beecome an RN by the end of the year. What steps did you take after finishing & passing your CPNE? Did you have to wait to be conferred for graduation or had to wait on EC diploma before you sent in your NLCEX-RN application? Thanks
  6. You are right, everyone will be different. My friend and I met through EC after our 3rd exam, we were part of a study group then when the group broke up we continued studying together, we completed the rest of the theory exams & FCCA together, she took her CPNE before me and passed on the 1st attempt, she is currently studing for her NCLEX-RN. After relocating due to my husband's job, I had to pause. I have been studying the CPNE study guide and recently submitted for my CPNE date.
  7. Natnat122, Have you found the vango notes to be helpful for LS3? (just curious) I wish I thought of them when I was doing my theory exams, it would have been nice to have an audible resources.
  8. Thank you all for your responses. It appears that my only option to working in CA as an RN, would be to hold my RN licensure in another state and try to find a position with the VA until either CA BON changes their decision about Excelsior students or we move again. I started researching and there are a few VA locations within a reasonable distance from my house. This is very disheartening after working so hard to get to this point in my education.
  9. Download Audio Books with Audible.com Online Digital Audio Book Store then do a search for vango notes for nursing and it will list what ever they have. Good luck
  10. LunahRN Thanks for responding. I am in Southern California and I think the closest locations would be Nevada (I am told we are about 3-4hrs from Las Vegas) and Arizona. However, they are not close enough where I could drive to those states to work each day....This is really discouraging, before we moved I was working as an ER Tech where I was already offered an RN position once I completed EC and now I am racking my brains to try to work in the state that I live in. I can't even consider taking a few travel assignments because you have to have a least 2yrs RN experience 1st. Also, I don't think getting my RN license in another state and trying to appy for CA Endorsement will work, because I read the BON still looks at your RN education as a criteria so that will not guarantee the CA BON will endorse my license. I will look into the federal facilities, thanks again. I appreciate the feedback.
  11. Well I guess my question should be..... has anybody done the Endorsement, because I am being told that Endorsement will not cut it in California because the BON still require you to meet the educational requirements of becoming an RN (which they don't accept via EC).
  12. Hello, I am a current Excelsior College student (all exams and FCCA completed) preparing for CPNE. My problem is that due to my husband's job, our family has relocated to California which no longer accepts EC graduates due to lack of clinical hours provided by EC. I do hold a current CA LVN license. Are there any EC graduates after 2003 that live in CA that was able to become an RN in CA? If so, what did you do to get around this situation? I am so close to finishing my RN education and this is a great opportunity for my husband, but I don't want to remain an LVN/LPN, so does anyone have any ideas to get around this (other than leaving my husband, because I still like having him around :)) Thanks
  13. LunahRN, Disregard my previous question. I found the answer, it was an oversite on my part. I was able to read the court issued decision as to why California doesn't accept EC students. I listed the links below for other California EC students. Board of Registered Nursing - Excelsior College http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/forms/excelsiornewsrelease.pdf My concern is that we just moved here due to my husbands job. I currently hold a CA LVN, I guess I will have to start checking around for other means of obtaining my RN, it stinks to be so close to finishing (currently studying for CPNE) and I can't work as an RN in my current state. I don't think applying and working in another state will help to do endorsement later. If you have any ideas, feel free to share.
  14. LunahRN, This may be a silly question or a misunderstanding on my part but....I am a current EC student, preparing for my CPNE. I noticed many people mention (and it is listed on EC page) that CA doesn't accept EC education. However, after contacting the BON in CA I was informed that all of the school that they do not accept are listed on their BON schools list (which EC is not on that list of schoold not being accepted) so how would I know for sure if EC is accepted by the BON for CA? Do I just complete the application and see what they come back and say? Or can you offer another suggestion on how I would know for sure what I need to do?
