  1. What are y'all talking about? Therapeutic communication? Ethics? I would suggest alot of practice questions from the fundamental success book. I was terrified as well for the first test and got a 76 and was devastated some people got wayyy lower than me like 40s so no worry the first test is a chocker and then you realize the way you have to study and the amount.

  3. i think it comes with 2 sterile field packets which is like to clean sterile wounds so basically one is to practice and the other one the instructor is watching you do it like putting on sterile gloves picking up instruments from the sterile field cleaning a sterile wound so if you do it right she will check you off on that skill if not you have to go another day and do it i think u have 3 chances after that I think they drop you from the class but dont worry i was nervous the first time but its no big deal. You will have check off throughout the semester like counting respiration, pulse, blood pressure and the teacher will listen with you to the beats she counts and you count and the count has to be withing 2-4 difference if you get 65 beats and instructor gets 72 theyll late you do it again 3 different times and with all check off thats your chances if not u know what happens. I had to do it again it happens to everyone depending on instructor how picky they are mine was very picky some instructors were not so much. U also have check offs for taking temperature, giving shots med administration ect........
  4. i didnt buy nurses shoes i bought white leather tennis shoes from nike they were 39$, also bought the stethoscope and cuff for like 30$ on ebay.
  5. I never bought those ebook I thought that was a waste of money some ppl that bought it stop using it after the first month. The nurse PAC its always can be like from 60 to 80 that's the price range. I would worry about no ebook that's stuff it's easy to use I would worry about reading the recommend reading before school starts and practicing some skills checks off that they will do like wound care, giving shots I can't remember to much lol yea parking it's crazy the first week plan getting really early to school because finding parking it's a true headache

Oh nooooo lol am so not excited this is gonna be a tough semester I want to cry already just thinking about exams lol
  7. oh i dont know what thats gonna be like that sounds like alot I already can handle more then 1 class plus clinicals i mean we are in class for basics 4 hours two days a week and 6 hours 2x a week and then pharm another day. PHarmacology was awesome because we had a great instructor easy A but she retired my semester. I heard last semester many basics students failed pharm and that has never happen i guess thats why they want to break it down into 2 semesters. I mean you really have to know your meds and some students just study for the test and then flush but it comes back in other level non pharm test. I would recommed the saunders nlcex review book its awesome i wish i had it for basics!!!
  8. Wow thats nice, however how spaced out it can be? we go for 4 semesters and then graduate how about for you guys now? If they are spacing out they have to be adding semester of taking off summer. let me know how that works
  9. Yea they start a new curriculum this semester for the new class. However how different can it be? Nursing is nursing is the same science same applications. You need a 77 to pass anything under that even if its 76.9999999 wont do it. Once you fall behind its hard to get in track however i know few people that have done it twice i Dont know if they gonna be able to do it for pcn bc its 8 intense weeks. I was so dipressed for by first semester because its totally a new everything. I failed my first test by a point and i have never failed a test in my life so that was a slap in the face, later you find out that failing a test is kind of common and you can get better if you try and study hard. The only fun part is being at the hospital. But charity will give you a good education i know lSU nurses at the unit i work that when they first started they didnt know how to use an insulin pen and i given so many shots on the insulin pen that I couldnt beleive it. youll get the education to be on the floor with no problem.Unlike our friends across the street. lol

Hi buying the med surg book is a most you have to read that and also the Saunders nclex book it's great. Definetely read whatever they recommend. Know your AbC ect most of the questions on the exam are related to that specially the first exam.
  11. At orientation there's like 250 people just like you they don't check to see if you have the book they gonna give u a packet that talks about ethic codes. Well third level u have the pharmacology exam first week and then PCn exam the second week. Nursing school is no joke people drop like flies that's why u have to study ahead of time.

any advice on how to survive PCN at Charity?
  13. Hi all the tables are labeled with your class section number and youll be seating with your clinical book. Dont waste your money on buying that ethic book they ask for it every semester and never use it. Orientation is kind of exhausting because your their the whole day and they tell you a bunch of information about parking the rules of the school blah blah. Everyone was nervous and anxious you could definitely felt the tension in the room is normal to be nervous ;-) Enjoy it and if they give the pages to read before school starts read it helps alot. Im on level 3 and am reading before school starts to get ahead on the first exam which is the 2nd week of school for us.
  14. I actually contested 4 questions for The final back up by info and no credits given frustrated lol so ended up with a 84.95 which 85 is a B I was 1 questions away from a B so mad. Oh well what can you do. They did throw out one questions because it said imitate NPO instead of initiate lol I mean I guess no one is perfect.
  15. The test questions are not easythat's why it's call critical thinking and that's why thy have such a high passing rate on the nclex. Some questions don't make any since that's why you can contest but most of it requires you to know the material 100 percent or even if you know it you can't answer without some critical thinking. Most of the instructors are really nice and teach you tons there's some that are lazy but its like that at any school.
  16. Apply you have nothing to loose
  17. I meant that the cd has like 5000 questions and the book too
  18. Well you can buy them at the bookstore but it's cheaper online.
  19. Careplans are papers that you do based on your patient disease following the nursing process is not a big deal they have books that you can copy and paste search Internet ect... The first semester they make you do alot of them like 2 each week and it's alot basically my first semester was like the first 8 weeks ur in school alot cause ur learning all the things before you go to the hospital then you start going to Te hospital it takes alot of your study time because Monday's u go pick ur patient and interview the pt the. U have to look at the chart ect takes like 2 if no complications by that I mean that no one else has the chart and ur patient is in the room. Then u go home do the care plan search the pathology all the meds your patient it's taking you have search them when the next ur at the hospital the teacher ask you what is it for you know. So Tuesday and wensday I had clinicals Thursday basics class Friday pharm turn all paper work in for that week and then Monday exam. Nac 1 is easier u have one class exams are every 3 weeks UFO go the hospital every week in basics u go every other week. However they are changing the whole program for new starting students and the way they lecture so itMight be different. The test sometimes it comes down 2 answers that you are like this 2 are right but that's when u read ur question again and realize what they are asking you most of the time it's what is the first thing what's priority what needs further teaching and they have the famous choose all that apply. The tip for test taking is follow the nursing process first asses and know the synonyms for that word because they like to use it like monitor ect if the answer it's wash your hands that's probably the right answer even the second semester u get that question and alot of people gotIt wrong. Follow the ABC airway it's always first they love those questions ever semester at least on nac 1 they had that question on 2 test. Airway( change position) comes before oxygen and circulation. For basics I bought the fundamental success book it help me and I wish I would have bought the Saunders nclex rn review book because it's awesome and it comes with a cd with 5 questions you can choose the area content you want to study it's complete I love it and they have taken questions from there or at least Change it around. Before nursing school started I was freakin out first semester was hell on fire for me especially being an honors student and failing my first exam. U need a 77 to pass the exam. Don't be discourage if you fail the first exam because most people do and then you learn how exams are. Buy the book I told u and u won't regret it read it over The summer.
  20. Omg I was as nervous as you guys when I started. Basics was really crazy for me we had exams every monday plus clinicals plus class plus studying plus care plans I criedEveryday :-( but happily I kept it together find what work for me and now am about to finish nac 1 :-) study group didn't work for me in fact i tried it it was like 8 of us and I felt like it was a waste of time and none of those people pass the class. Study any chance u have listen to tegrety sometimes they say stuff that's not on the notes and will be On the test read The book and get a review book it helps. Everything is possible if you want it and go for it. We were like 300 students when school started and when the second semester started we were like 120 including the lpn and repeats and people who came back or transfer. This second semester its easier well at least for me. Te thing is that you have to learn how to take nursing school test that's why u need practice books If y'all have questions send me a message :-) nursing it's fun good luck and now u have to go back to studying Ufhhh lol test thisMonday :-(
  21. Well I just have to say that I am in charity and the administrative people from delgado are a pain you know where. However the instructors are great the school has more than a 100 year history in nursing and a reputation well the best in new orleans. I personally chose Charity over LSU because I didnt have to take anatomy and physiology all over again and because the LSU program its 4 years. At charity you feel like your home you learn so much and its hands on as soon as you start the program you go to the hospital. I also chose charity because I heard the best nurses come from Charity because of the good training. I have nothing bad to say about the program. Its super hard, demanding of all your time ect... When I went to orientation at LSU everyone was nice as well. The choice is also on how long you want to be in school. If you get an RN from Charity and graduate you can do your bsn online at Loyola or another school and its like 6 month instead of a year. I know other schools if you have a bachelors degree in something else you dont need a bsn to go to masters program. Its a personal decision on what you think is right for you.
  22. I passed too yeyeyeye i survived lol
  23. Parking runs around 3 to 5 dollars everytime you go there. The first week of school your there almost everyday until 9 week that you start going to the hospital but if university was the hospital that you picked well you have to do the math. The first 2 weeks of school it was hard finding a parking lot because the other level students were there almost everyday ad well the first week so you have to leave home early specially Morning traffic classes are at 9 and they can last 3 to 4 hours but the first week you are there more than 4 hrs. I guess you can say thats the bad part about charity.
  24. Dosage calculation test its very easy you need a 90 to pass. Its 1st grade grammar and its at the middle of the semesters. Clinicals are the most fun part you dont start until 8th week of school. From the first week till the 8th you learn basics skills like sterile technique for wound care, vital signs, giving a bath, positions, ROM, medication administration. You have to show the instructor that you know how to do it its call a check off. That always made everyone nervous because their watching to see what your doing and with vitals they listen to resporations and heart rate and you have to come in between 4 readings form what they get. But its fun I find that most people learn more when they actually get to do hands on instead of just reading the book.
  25. all the instructors are nice. with some you will do more than others just because they are "slow". i would definitely recommend (moderator edit of name - please do not post names of those in your nursing program per terms of service - please see the sticky at the top of this forum). however at university you get more experienced just because they are on a trauma floor.
